What was it like during this era?
Did the Football team steal the thunder of your Basketball team? I guess there was a lot of hype and a huge spike in interest and applications?

Was a UF student from 06-10. Best college experience you could ask for!!!

I’d argue the basketball team was more popular after the first championship. They were rock stars on campus. Back when students would camp out to go to the basketball games.
The glory days. Been all downhill since then (outside of 08).

No. Our back to back champions had a Frenchman with a bun. You can’t out-thunder that .

And the baseball team played for the national title in 05.

That was my senior year at UF. Those guys were like rock stars on campus but that tournament was no fun to watch because anything less than a repeat would've been a failure.

I love that this is downvoted for some reason
I agree that the basketball team was probably more popular. I remember them showing up for a football game and the crowd went nuts and nobody was even watching the football game for a good five minutes

Do you remember which game they showed up for? I went to all of our home games that year (even Western Carolina) and don't remember.

4 of them were in the same recruiting class and they lived together all 3 years they were in school. They were like the Beatles.

I lived in Gainesville during that time. It was a definitive golden era for any university that accomplished what it did in sports and academics as well as in its endowment campaign. In sports, it wasn't just football and basketball. It truly was the few yearS of the Gators pretty much all the way around. Everything was celebrated. It wasn't really a situation of stealing thunder. If you weren't a Gator fan, you still had to admire it. If you hate the Gators, it was brutal.
