I don't think he's any better on paper than Crean was. Based on Crean's history there would be no reason to expect him to be so bad at Georgia. He was average to very good at Marquette and Indiana and built both into yearly NCAA Tournament programs from a place where they weren't.
Mike White took over a Top 10 program and slowly withered it down to a bubble program. It's just a very strange hire, and I don't think it is a slam dunk at all that White makes Georgia into a bubble type program. He might, but it's also completely in the realm of possibility that he can never get it going much like Crean couldn't.
I understand the feeling that he is a "stabilizer" type guy that Georgia needs, but so was Crean.

Can Mike White take over a dumpster fire and build a program basically from scratch? Nothing about his coaching profile suggests he can. But everything about Crean's suggested he could, so maybe they're experimenting with the Costanza method of doing the opposite of whatever your instincts say you should do.
