Here is the thing...........most HC's aren't the ones making the offers. They have people doing that for them. A "shield" so to speak.
ETA everybody in the SEC knows bama's football team is bought and paid for. Do you think saban ever brings up a number with the recruits? He has others doing that dirty work.

point in Smart’s recruitment made a stronger arse offer than Wade initially. If you’re going to say of course Wade’s offer was monetarily based, then doesn’t Kentucky’s have to be as well.

And that's what makes Wade an idiot in this. He should never have been the one on the phone. There has to be a buffer.
