Good video by Josh Pate.

Really like him. He lays it all out what it takes to win a title. Video takes about 11 minutes.

I can't watch the video right now but there isn't some magic formula, it's pretty simple. You either need an ELITE offense (18 clemson, 19 LSU, 20 bama, etc) with a good enough defense, or an ELITE defense (us) with a good enough offense. You can't really be "pretty good" on both sides anymore and have a prayer. 2017 was probably the last year the title winner wasn't ELITE on either side, but it's worth noting that they did have ELITE offensive guys just a lot of them were young and didnt' paly much all year until the title game and then showed out.

Humans are all caught up stupid trends, everybody wanted a Brady, then a Mahommes, then an air raid offense, now because of us, they want a real defense again.

Look at the cluster the NFL coaching ranks have become, from a guy fired at Texas Tech then promoted to NFL head Coach within weeks to coaches being fired in a single season.

Defense always wins championships as it travels in hostile stadiums and cold rainy weather.

recent history has shown this not to be the case. We were the exception this year because we had literally the best defense we've ever fielded, and likely one of the best defenses in CFB over the last several decades. That is not a sustainable situation to be in. The last 3 champions before us most certainly did not win the title because of their defense.

Defense has never won every Championship, just more often that not.

Otherwise OU would have like 20 championships....

Well, yeah. He goes more along the lines of people whining about how much Georgia/Alabama spends on recruiting, and it shows that the AD is on board with spending the money. He likens it somewhat to making an investment. Once a title is realized returns pay off in a big way.

He also, more or less talks about how some ADs give lip service about wanting to build a winner, but are unwilling to do what it takes.

There are other things, but that is the meat of it.

ETA
I should also say that he points out it is more than just money...but identifying the plays, fit ...recruiting and building relationships.

It's what we knew, but so many programs are unwilling to do.

How to win a CFP Championship:

#1 Have an elite 5* QB
#2 Put him on the bench because your walk on is actually better.
#3 Profit
