The exact opposite of what you just said is true.
There isn’t enough parity in College Football to justify an expansion. The talent disparity between the first place and 10th place NFL teams is the difference in a couple of key players. In college it’s a difference of entire recruiting classes.

I get what you are saying, but at least with an expanded playoff you won't have teams automatically qualifying for the semifinals without ever facing a quality opponent. A larger playoff forces you to both be a great team and be playing at your best to make it to the semifinals.

This really is inarguable. The ONLY possible justification for a college football playoff expansion in my view is due to the rapidly eroding legitimacy of other non-playoff bowls (even so called NY6 bowls). With the constant opt outs these bowl games are becoming must miss TV all too often. If we went to, say 12 teams, you would have full rosters competing, but not more competitive games when it comes to the best teams.
