Carmelo Anthony led Syracuse to the NC, Arizona won the NC in basketball as a 6 seed, Villanova won the NC as an 8 seed with a 9-7 conference record and 10 losses, Michigan with Glen Rice was a 6 seed. You don’t even have to be a dominant program. You have to get in and get hot.
It takes a heck of a lot less cash to win in bball than football.
I’d also point out that in the instance of Cam Newton that was still an Auburn team with plenty of talent. It’s not like Cam went to Maryland and they won the NC. Auburn is always going to have at least a top 20 roster.
