Auburn has a higher ceiling in basketball moving forward than they do in football

Why would you make that claim? Football has made it to the Championship game the last 10 years and was a major factor in 2017. They played in the Final 4 in BB and are currently ranked #1. Ceiling is high in both sports.

Too many people just look at today's snapshot.

Because you hired Boise's entire staff.

Auburn basketball has had more consistent success the last 5 years than any 5 year period in Auburn football history outside of the 1980s.

When comparing recruiting, Auburn basketball has better access to elite talent when compared to the other teams in their league and nationally than football without question.

Auburn football has been national championship relevant 4 times in the last 25 years. Auburn basketball has been national championship relevant 2 times in the last 5 years.

Auburn basketball currently is sitting in a position where they have national recognition, an elite coach, a great facility, a recruiting pipeline and consistency in winning. Auburn football currently is a dumpster fire situated between the 2 most elite programs in college football with no true route to consistently competing with those 2 (not to mention others) in the near future, with average at best facilities and going on a 5th straight year of national irrelevance.

Football has never had a consistent ceiling at Auburn. Ever. The closest you came was the 1980s. Before and after Auburn has never competed at a Top 10 level for 4-5 year periods. Hell, Auburn hasn't had back to back Top 10 seasons since 1993-1994. The only other period that was close was 2004-2007, which was immediately followed by a collapse, a magical season, another multi-year collapse, another magical season, and another multi-year collapse.

Again, Auburn's basketball infrastructure and recruiting pipelines in basketball make them a true sustainable entity that football cannot match.

And in spite of that, what was the name of the guy you hired a year ago?

Gene Chizik. Gus Malzahn. Bryan Harsin. None of those guys are ever in the discussion of top coaches. When you did manage to win a championship...due almost exclusively because of one transfer player...were you able to parlay that into any kind of sustained success? No. Your program turned to shite in practically record time.

How high is your ceiling in football? You're incapable of hiring one of the top coaches in the country. LSU hired a guy who's been in the BCS championship game, and also has been in the CFP. Who did Auburn hire?

Basketball...in contrast...you managed to hire one of the best coaches currently in the country. One whose name is always in that discussion. He rewarded you with a Final Four in 2019 and now 3 years later has you ranked #1. That's sustained success at the highest level.

Everyone on this board except you grasps the fact that by definition of the term GOAT, the presence of Saban at Alabama means that your ceiling will never be very high as long as he is there. You're odds of playing in a national championship game while he is there (and also now while Kirby is at Georgia) are extremely slim. The odds of you being in two national championship games in 5 years are smaller than microscopic.
