I didn't watch a ton of Auburn football this year, but when I did I wasn't really noticing great scheming on defense or anything.
Not that it was bad, I just think Auburn had some players on defense and that unit was probably going to be good regardless of what you called.
I think this does point to a broader problem within the program and with Harsin though. His bump class being outside the top 10 in recruiting and them not really bringing in any stud recruiters with their new hires doesn't bode well. If things go south hes out after this year or in '23.

Or he brought his DC with him and used Mason as a stop gap to help transition to a new conference having someone familiar with the landscape of the SEC.
