Get your magnifying glass out so you can find the southern schools, you'll need it.
No one in the South and Southwest was playing in those early days so anything prior to the mid-1920's is irrelevant. In those early days Yale and Princeton would play each other once and the winner was retroactively named the national champion 70 years later. In the 1870's and 1880's the South was recovering from the Civil War and Reconstruction. Oklahoma was still called the Indian Territory. But once the game spread South then we more than held our own. Southern teams such as Alabama, Georgia Tech, and Georgia won the Rose Bowl. The West Coast people didn't like it so they decided to find a conference that they could beat: The B1G Ten !!!
