I wouldn’t call him a non factor. But if you and I think he’s pretty good and when he’s been healthy he sees the field so Jimbo must think he’s pretty good too. Then he must be pretty good. So why would he transfer? I think the most obvious reason is he’s an upperclassman worried about playing time. In a vacuum it’s not ideal to lose good players but this may be less important because of the underclassmen’s performance.
