Venables Talked About AU in His Presser

Said his daughter asked him why he didn't take the AU job last year.
No idea what he means by that. IMO, he was skeered of Saban and AU's schedule.

Goes back to my early post... they are scared to compete and AU PTB aren’t pulling all in the same direction

He wasn’t man enough. Surprising he admitted that

Because he wasn't offered the job?

We’ll say what you will about Hars but he sure isn’t scared or wussified

It’s a big challenge, but also big reward. If he did well at Auburn Bama would scoot Saban out the door before Harsin locked down another contract.

Either the fear of producing in the SEC West or we still have too many hands in the pot trying to control the football program.
Im a little surprised that Napier and /or Cristobal didn’t happen last year, but both have new gigs this year. I believe both were high on our list last year.

No first time head coach should take the Auburn job.

Yup. He clearly wants to be here.

No doubt he wants to be @ Auburn
He has shown that he can go toe to toe with the best ON the field and now he just needs to show it OFF the field
ETA: I fully agree with your other post as well. Auburn isn’t an on the job coaching training camp. Hars came with an impeccable head coaching record. I still have faith he gets it done.

You people are delusional. What do you think is more likely? That ALL of the top coaching candidates in the country are wusses, or that the rumors we've been hearing for decades are true and that the PTB meddle too much. Hell, we already know the answer because they're not even really rumors at this point. Clearly there's still too much meddling and no one wants to be micromanaged. These coaches can't be as successful as they are while simultaneously being wusses like you accuse then of being.

He rode the coattails of clemson’s offense QB/ Dabo for so long that I have to strongly disagree.

Every school with the money, tradition, and historical success similar to Auburn or better has people in power that want more to say on hiring decisions than they ought to have. That does not prevent all good hires from happening.

Every fanbase complains about it, but seemingly only when they aren't performing up to expectations. Rarely do I see anyone commending the PTB for a good hire when it is obviously a good hire. Even if Auburn's PTB are on the more restrictive side (which no one on this board really truly knows relative to other programs), none of you really understand what goes on behind the scenes other than political drama...JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER MAJOR FOOTBALL PROGRAM.
Suck it up and stop complaining about the PTB for being the only reason your favorite coach didn't get hired. There's about 100 different reasons why they didn't get hired and you're taking the easy way out by blaming it on people and discussions you know very little about, but reasons that are also pretty much impossible to disprove.

I was half-joking when I said he's scared of Saban, but I also think the "meddling PTB" thing is overblown. Every major college program is supported financially by boosters. So every major program has their "meddlers" and people wanting to make decisions. Texas is notorious for it as well.
Venables may have thought the AU PTB weren't pulling in the same direction. Maybe he thought the PTB were looking at other coaches than what AD Greene was. I don't know. Hard to tell from the outside.
Either way, he said in his 2nd presser that the closest he has come to taking a HC job was "last year" (referring to AU).

Can anyone tell me what the hell alignment means lol. Usually one someone talks about alignment in football they are talking about how the defense is set or something with conference alignment. I've literally never heard it used like he did.

Brian Kelly has been using it a lot as well on why he took the LSU job
Alignment: Having all boosters, fund raisers, alumni, fans, athletic dept and ENTIRE university AND community ALL on the SAME page

He means the PTB being on the same page. Aligning in the same direction, in other words. He must have sensed the AU PTB were having some dissension in the ranks.
EDIT: I don't think it is a matter of the PTB not wanting to win (they are building a $90 million facility), but probably more of a "I want coach X, while that other booster wants coach Y."

then why do other SEC WEST schools have an easier time getting coaches? Saban has nothing to do with it.

We don’t know that as fact
What IS fact is that Harsin and AD Green already had a relationship before he was hired

Thats dumb then. News flash to him.. When people are winning and things are going good or its new everyone tends to be on the same page. If they lose then things get splintered. Lets see him have a rough couple of years and still talk about how aligned things are lol.
