THE GAME: The University of Alabama football team continues its three game Southeastern Conference home stand Saturday as the University of Tennessee Volunteers visit Bryant-Denny Stadium. The game between the Crimson Tide and Volunteers is set to kickoff at 2:30 p.m. CDT on CBS. Verne Lundquist will serve as the play-by-play announcer, with Gary Danielson at his side as the color analyst. The two will be joined by sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson.
SERIES HISTORY: Alabama leads the all-time series with Tennessee, 50-38-7, and has won six straight in the series after a 44-13 victory in Knoxville last season. The Tide has also won four straight in Tuscaloosa by an average margin of 24-9 while the average margin of victory during the current six-game streak is 34.0-10.8. Alabama and Tennessee first met during the 1901 season and have played every season since 1928 (except for the 1943 season when Alabama did not field a team due to World War II) and will be playing for the 97th time Saturday.

DEFENSE IN SHUTDOWN MODE: Since Alabama’s 49-42 victory at Texas A&M in the second game of the season, the Crimson Tide’s defense has been living up to a standard established by great Tide defenses of the past. In the past five games, or 20 quarters of action, the Alabama defense has surrendered just one touchdown (at Kentucky). In those five games, the Tide is allowing 3.2 points per game (1 TD, 3 FG), 3.86 yards per play (1,085 yards in 281 plays), 152.0 passing yards per game (760 yards) and 74.2 rushing yards per game (371 yards). During that five game stretch, the Tide has outscored its opponents 201-16 or 40.2-3.2 points per game.
STREAKING: Alabama enters the Tennessee contest with the second-longest winning streak in the Football Bowl Subdivision at 11 games.
10 POINTS OR FEWER: Under head coach Nick Saban, the Crimson Tide has held opponents to 10 points or fewer 46 times since the start of the 2007 season, with its most recent against Arkansas on Oct. 19, 2013. Alabama has held 6-of- 7 opponents to 10 points or less in 2013
DEFENSIVE SUCCESS: Alabama has led the Southeastern Conference in total defense for the last five seasons. In the 60 seasons prior, no team has led its respective league in total defense for more than two straight years
SABAN VERSUS THE VOLS: Alabama head coach Nick Saban has compiled an 8-1 (.889) career record against Tennessee. He is 6-0 in his career at Alabama, including a 41-17 win in 2007, a 29-9 in 2008, a 12-10 win in 2009, a 41-10 victory in 2010, a 37-6 win in 2011 and a 44-13 triumph in 2012.

AGAINST #1 TEAMS
¢ The Vols are 2-10 all-time vs. No. 1-ranked teams (2-9 vs. AP #1 teams).
¢ Tennessee’s last win over a No. 1-ranked team was in 1985, a 38-20 win by an unranked Vols squad over Auburn at Neyland Stadium.
¢ Both wins for UT over top-ranked teams were vs. SEC opponents, with the other happening on Nov. 7, 1959, a 14-13 win over LSU.
¢ Tennessee is playing the No. 1 team in the nation for the third consecutive year and for the fifth time in the last five seasons (2012 vs. Albama, 2011 vs. LSU, 2009 at Alabama, 2009 at Florida).
UT ranks second in the SEC and tied for 14th nationally in turnovers forced with 17 (12 INTs, 5 fumble recoveries), equaling the Vols’ full-season total in 2012 (also 12 INTs, 5 fumble recoveries).
Tennessee, who recorded 17 sacks during the entire 2012 season, has notched 12 through seven games this year
The Vols have played eight walk-ons this season: Max Arnold (DB), Tyler Drummer (WR/H), Reggie Juin (DB), DeVaun Swafford (DB), Deanthonie Summerhill (RB) and John Simcox (OL), David Priddy (DB) and Gregory Grieco (LB)
UT will attempt to reverse a recent trend of scoring 17 or fewer points in the last nine meetings vs. the Tide, including 13 or fewer in the last five.
