The news broke yesterday. Prostate Cancer. Sad day for the Gamecocks. RIP Sir. Thanks for your unwavering support of Gamecock athletics.

Gamecock nation is mourning the loss of one of its most notable and recognizable superfans.
Carlton Thompson, the man affectionately known as Gamecock Jesus, has passed away.
He was 70 years old.
Thompson’s positivity and passion for Gamecock athletics galvanized the fanbase for decades.
In an exclusive interview Wednesday morning, USC women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley, who was still in disbelief, said he leaves behind a powerful legacy.
“He was God-like,” she said. “He walked the walk. He walked the walk of faith, he walked the walk of the people, of a giver, of a carer.”
As Thompson was battling prostate cancer for the last year and not in the stands, Staley it felt like a teammate was missing.
In a cynical world, she said his joy and generous heart will be sorely missed.

Damn, that’s sad. Especially with prostate cancer. It moves so slow and It’s easily detectable if you just get yearly physicals.

Guy has been there since I worked at the old Carolina Coliseum in high school and college (started there in 1977) Never missed a men's, women's basketball game, baseball game and I'm sure he went to many other sports as well. Also known as Baseline Jesus and The Stomper for his seat near the basket and his loud stomping on the metal floor of the rollback seats at key moments. Just an all around good guy! RIP!
And as someone who thankfully had his prostate cancer caught early, get yourself checked as early detection is the key!

The university is a gang of chicken shits if they don't make a permanent installation for his seat.
Baseline Jesus was a legend.

I agree! I hear they are working on something. Whether it is a permanent empty seat or to hang the flag he always waved in the arena or framed on a wall in the building they have not said.
