What we saw Saturday, was a step above a 7 on 7 drill.

The one play where we rocked their QB in the first half was from a nice looking delayed blitz. I think the blitz stunned him more than it hurt lol

QBs are to good to run 80-90 % zone. Used to be the only way to go when you faced run teams. Now with more sophisticated passing concepts and better WRs and QBs it not really a great scheme. There is always soft spots much like in the Tampa-2. Everyone knows how to attack it.

It will definitely be a big learning curve. Penn State played mostly zone and mainly the reason we weren’t ripping off 40 yard runs. But they also played with anticipation on routes and throws.

Personally I don’t like any defense that is almost always zone or almost always man. I would much rather be multiple on the back end that mixes coverages.

Either way we did know there would be growing pains. I’m disappointed in the lack of changes on the front end as well. It was 13:5x in the first quarter so all DL were fresh. Their QB had 6 seconds to throw. 6 seconds!!!

That is the advantage of bringing pressure. The interception was because of the pressure. I would rather take a risk than play basically prevent defense.
