Yea I don't mind running the spread, I just honestly think that Malzahn would not do well at Auburn. If there was a mini Sumlin tearing it up at some ACC C-USA school I'd be fine with that.. but I can't think of one.

And I'm sure the pro style gave us much better numbers, right?

Look, Malzahn might not be a good choice for coach, but that doesn't mean his offense is crap. He got a Top 25 offense with Chris Todd running the show. The spread is the best route for us in the future...we've already got a large number of guys who ran it in HS.

Because he put up 63 points against Furman, 49 against LaTech and Moo St. He did well against bad teams. Against good teams, he was exposed. He is too inconsistant in his playcalling and cannot scout.

Why the hell does that matter? Plus the spread is just a formation. I do not like HUNH as a mindset. I want to be able to line up physically dominate the man in font of you.

Scot Loeffler's is not and should not be considered as such.

You can run a spread offense that's not HUNH.

And it matters because the players are more comfortable playing in it. Easier transition. Duh. You think playing in a Malzahn system wouldn't have mattered for a guy like Kiehl who has ran it since middle school? It matters.

You're fighting a losing battle if you want to physically dominate a team like Bama in the next few years. A&M beat them without having that advantage. LSU lined up with them, but failed in the end.

The last few teams that have beaten Saban's Alabama teams used some form of the spread, with the exception being LSU in 2011.

Again, I'm not advocating Malzahn in particular. I'm advocating that type of offense. Spread out a physically dominating defense rather than try to punch straight up with them.

La tech 25 37
Miss state 27 49
Wvu 21 41
Ball state 28 54
Tenn 21 26
Ark 26 23
Ky 23 14
LSU 16 10
Miss 19 33
Fur **. 63
Uga 26 24
Al 11 21
Nw 23 38. *ot

First number is average points, second is actual

Bama, tenn, ole miss, LSU, and wvu were all top 30 d's, LSU is the only one we did not score more than their average. We pretty much doubled all the top d's scoring average except tenn and LSU.

If we could somehow intermingle a smash mouth BVG defense with a Gus Malzahn O, I would be happy with that. It just won't happen. I want a strong defense and a run-it-down-your-throat offense with big, physical WRs that can block.

I agree. I am not a malzahn for head coach fan, as of right now, but his scheme works, with the right players, more so when he has somewhat of a d.

I just wish we could stop somebody. Right now, even before the downfall, it was so hard to cheer for third and whatever, you just knew what evere yards a team needed against our d on third, they would get at least that.

Why can't you have a strong defense and a spread offense? I understand not wanting HUNH to save your defense, but I'm missing something here.

I just don't see how we can't have both...like Notre Dame or Oklahoma this year. Top 20 defenses that run a spread attack.

It's just a little more difficult to have a hunh with a great d. You have to dedicate your depth to the o on a hunh whic sacrifices a little depth on d. And your d needs time to rest if your o is scoring in less than a minute.

I'd be happy with a d that had a respectable 3rd and 4th down conversion rate, doesn't have to be great, and a d that creates numerous turnovers to get the ball back to the o. Maybe 18-23 points a game, with not that much variance from the average. With a hunh o that can score in the upper 30's to mid 40's.

Honestly, I would appreciate a serviceable O with a nasty, relentless defense that opposing offenses don't salivate to. Offense can be a blast to watch, but power wins championships.

I guess you're not including us, UF, USC, and Tx, who all won with O.

Our saving grace was we had the incredible rush and 2nd half defense
