This. A 24-hour doughnut shop in downtown Auburn would kill IMO.

Yep. Non-chain, just someone who knows how to make good donuts and a lot of them.

Daylights opened up in my final years like around 08 or 09, I believe. When it first opened I thought it was pretty decent. It was the only donut shop in town anyways so there wasn't much to choose from.

My bad. I read that as d squared, meaning dd or daylight donuts. Well, off to my job as a councelor at the Center for Kids Who Can't Read Good.

Square D does do pretty well because they have low to no overhead at that spot. That is the problem with a donut shop is the overhead is so high relative to the revenue gained per donut sold. Ill point to Dunkin donuts have so many other products as supporting evidence for this claim. If a donut shop could get someone to pay like $4-$5 per donut like that Gigi places gets per cupcake, then they would be in bidness.

Where the frick do you find a single donut for that much? No one would ever pay that because these are DONUTS. They are supposed to be fairly cheap and thats been an accepted fact throughout America. A donut shop right there close to campus/downtown is all they need to be in business because there is no competition. A place like you are saying(gourmet) is retarded because this area is full of college students who are looking for cheap eats. There is no need to jack up prices, that is stupid and a good way to go out of bidness fast.

BTW GiGis cupcakes sucks and is overpriced. Im surprised how they stay in business.

But people will still do this, because they look at what happened before, and believe that their business model is the exception to the rule.

Yea they got some dumbasses out there. They've had so many restaurants come and go at AU. When you think about it, it's pretty simple and most everyone would agree that you have to have a quality product, a reasonable price, and a good location to be successful. In that order.

ETA: Easier said than done, I guess.

Problem with good location in Auburn is that leases are so damn high, a lot of places charge high dollar amounts for stuff to be able to afford the lease. It's a viscous cycle.

I went to Block & Barrel Deli today. It's the deli out by the airport on Glenn (in the same complex as Auburn Armory). I've tried going there several times before but they close bizarrely early (around 6-7). Anyway, I was pretty impressed by the sub I got today. It's kind of like if Momma G's had a bastard son with Jersey Mikes. Fresh sliced meat on a steamed bun. Prices are similar to Momma G's.

The owner was incredibly nice, but seemed pretty desperate for business. I've never seen any type of advertisement for the place so I'm guessing he depends on word of mouth. So if you're in the area and it's not dark yet, give them a try

Just barely...the guy needs to put a couple dollars into advertising. He has a great product but no one knows that place exists. Since I live above a MG, I'm willing to drive a couple miles to get something slightly different

I'm hungry. I wish we had a fast food mexican place not named Taco Bell. If someone could imitate what Little Rosie's does in Huntsville and bring it to AU my life would be complete.

Red Burrito isn't anywhere close to Little Rosie's...but it's at least not Taco Bell.

Moe's, Chipotle, or the Taco Truck not good enough for you?

I have no idea what Little Rosie's is, so I can't sympathize.

None are anything like Little Rosie's

Little Rosie's is a drive thru/sit down restaurant that serves authentic high quality tex-mex. It's worlds away from those places and it would make a splash in Auburn.

And just saw that Shrimp Basket is coming to Auburn on S College by Zaxby's. I'm excited.. but it's so damn expensive

But the curse of the old Hooters building will strike. Nothing will last at that location.
