You don't remember Gus' 1a and 1b, QB remarks? All bullshite. Gus got Nix shell shocked at the Swamp and LSU, but 1b wasn't even a consideration. So, was Gatewood really close to being named starter, or was Gus just lying?
If you remember I was rooting for Gatewood over Nix until Nix won. But it played out that Gatewood couldn’t even do a good job for Kentucky. Despite the TF season Bo still had plenty of skill to have success. And we had some success. He defeated Oregon, Alabama, and A&M on the road and I highly doubt Malik, Gatewood or Finley could’ve done that.

Gus didn't think Willis would ever start for him, and Willis got that message and transferred.
Which speaks volumes considering Gus could turn a former DB into a stud.

Let me, let you in on a little secret: If your QB isn't progressing from year to year, still doing the same old shite that is detrimental to the team, you had better start looking for other talent to coach up.
Give him some protection and some weapons and let’s have that discussion then. Did you write off Jason Campbell during his junior year?

Bo will start on Saturday.
And if that happens Harsin risks losing the team. Finley waited his turn, he won the job and it’s his until he loses it. Bo has had years to develop and own it, but yesterday was a disaster for him.
Sure, Bo will play again, but he doesn’t deserve to start. I would personally love to see Finely perform well against his former team and lead us to a win.

My only concern with Finley is he’s a Ryan Mallet type statue in the pocket, and with our O Line, that will be a disaster.

I would rather Harsin run his O and can point to recruits what he is trying to do. Also says you can play early and we won't just run someone out because they have been there for years, despite never producing.

A disaster is someone who doesn’t step up into the pocket, can’t read the field, runs backwards all the time (even when there isn’t any pressure), constantly overthrows wide open WR, etc.

quote:You are seriously comparing Nix to Campbell? The fact is, Nix isn't much better than he was as a true freshman. It's readily apparent that, although he has the skill set, he panics/gets flustered very easily. Slightest amount of pressure and you are looking at a wild scramble, sack, or a pass 3 feet over the receiver. It's a rare thing to see him step up into the pocket. Give Jeremy Johnson great protection, and he looked really good too. What you saw yesterday when Finely came in, was a QB that could mentally handle the pressure and make a play. A new, better Oline isn't walking out on the field anytime soon, so you'd better have a QB with a little ice in his veins.

The OL sucked. The WRs sucked. The defense sucked.
I agree with all of this.

We are going to let the game next week decide who is not the answer.
You are going to take a 1 game sample:
- (in Baton Rouge)
- knowing TJ has not gotten any 1st team reps all fall camp.
- behind the same crappy OL
AND create a final decision about who is the better guy for the job this year?
I am not trying to make TJ into an all American. I am just telling you that Bo is the worst QB on our roster. And I can only name 1 other QB on the roster.
I wish marriages in America were as devoted to each other as you are to Mr. Milo’s.

I am not writing the OL off. When we have a QB that utilizes the pocket and actually connects on the mid to deep range balls, that will relieve the pressure on the OL and RB. Currently, no one fears Bo and his WR screens.

Yeah I am. He had little improvement until his senior year. He is the perfect comparison.

1. You thought Nick Marshall was already a polished quarterback that didn’t need refining?
2. So Willis wasn’t good? If Gus could utilize utilize raw talent in Marshall why not Malik’s?

Gus own words in fall camp doesn’t mean much. Gus also said at signing day that Gatewood reminded him of Cam.

He is already a known quantity in the SEC. Y’all are the one saying TJ should start just because of a 98 yard sample size. Don’t preach to me about sample sizes

quote:Willis is built in the same mold as Marshall, but bigger, probably faster and stronger too. You seem to forget, after Marshall left Gus went away from that offense and dark days came along with that and Jeremy Johnson pocket-passing game. We stayed with that offense thru Sean White (kicked off the team) and Jarret Stidham. We then go out, offer a kid our very last spot to a future 1st round draft pick and possible Heisman finalist. He rides the pine, gets no meaningful snaps, and Gus has him behind a true freshman and another guy who's on his 3rd school and not even playing QB any longer. You are crazy as Hell, if you don't think Willis would beat out all the QBs we currently have on the roster, with Harsin as coach. The reason Willis isn't at Auburn is 100% Gus and his blindness to Nix's ability.

You are kidding, right? Marshall was an athletic freak of nature, custom made, and born to run a read option offense. Do you really think Gus made him into that?
I think it was Gus that realized that potential. Don’t forget the first game against Washington State. That was the original plan. Gus adjusted to Marshall’s strengths and took off. Do you think the NM we love today would’ve been possible if we continued with the Washington State game plan?

Marshall > Willis

I didn’t forget. It’s irrelevant here though. You could say he wanted to go back to the Washington State plan.

Even more evidence that Gus is a moron. Finely reminds me way more of Cam, than Gatewood.
Maybe you’re the moron now

I get it, you love you some Bo Nix. No amount of what you see will change that.

1. You’re conflating actual Gus issues and trying to prove a non issue was an actual issue
- Yes he did put all his eggs into one basket too many times. That was more of a recruiting issue.
- Yes he did go away from the Nick Marshall offense and back to some different offense that was less than dynamic; however, he never had an issue with starting the right quarterback on his roster.
2. Don’t count on Malik being drafted in the first round or being a heisman finalist.

3. Why Liberty? Kirby is still recruiting Tank to this day but apparently nobody wanted Willis.

Bo sucks right now and has lost all confidence.
Start TJ and let him play until he proves he can’t. If he fails, put DD in. DD has the most potential of all of them. But TJ made things happen where Bo didn’t. He’s huge and obviously has an arm. Let him play.

3. Malik Willis, Liberty
2020 stats: 170-265, 2,250 passing yards, 20 touchdowns, six interceptions; 994 rushing yards, 14 touchdowns
Each year, there is one quarterback prospect that captures the attention of the nation despite not being from a big-name school.
Enter Malik Willis. The 6-foot-1, 215-pound transfer from Auburn burst onto the scene in 2020, leading Hugh Freeze's Liberty squad to a 10-1 record, culminated by a 37-34 upset victory over Coastal Carolina in the Cure Bowl. Willis has been called one of the most electrifying QBs in college football with impressive arm talent and the ability to make plays with his legs.
While Willis struggles with inconsistency at times, his upside is undeniable. If he can lead the Flames to another strong season, he could hear his name being called early in this year's draft as well.
Now go do a search for Bo Nix.
