I don’t put percentages on it. We have a Practice Player and Game Player, Practice Coach and Game coach.

I will crawl your arse, throw a bat against the fence get your attention. Drill and drill until we don’t get it wrong. Go over and over game situations. As a practice coach. In the game I can be a vocal coach but it’s words of encouragement it is the players time to show what they have learned or gotten better at. The practice player gets put under so much stress from situations and drills that the game for the game player should be fun and the player should be able to show off his skills. It’s served my players and I well.

But about practice if you don’t like practice you’re probably not going to be very good at baseball. It’s a repetitive sport the more correct and the more you do the better you get.

Interesting. Maybe Thompson is right if this is how travel ball works.

I’m not sure how old you are or if you have boys that play but if your son is good enough to get on a decent team I would encourage it if they truly want to be good at it. Very rarely does any kid come through in jr high that didn’t play travel ball prior. Just so much more individual work you can get done when you aren’t having to teach a new player to the game like in a local league how to throw or catch when they are 11 years old. And if you go to a school that is larger then 3A you will probably have about 40 kids try out for around 10 spots in the 7th grade. Last year in the 7th we had 57 kids try out. When my son tried out at Trussville in the 7th grade 85 kids tried out.

Everything I've read has said we're going to be awful this year

You aren't reading a lot then.

The story with this team is no one really knows what we have. Half of the team is new this year.

Our pitching is a ton better than I was expecting. Texas Tech is a legit Omaha contender and the guy they threw against us is going to be a top 5 round pick. Jace Jung was the Big 12 player of the year last year, he went 0-5 against us. KSU's best bat had 3 ks. Our game calling is a ton better than I was expecting. Outside of Mullins having no control in his outing, I was very pleased with the pitching. Allsup is going to be dangerous in a couple years. Reminds me of Kopps.

Our offense was bad this weekend though, but we did a decent job of seeing pitches. Dichiara was a very bright spot. Hitting is typically behind pitching early in the year though. I'd be fine with Farquhar not playing much. And we have to figure out the catcher rotation.

Right now I'm thinking we probably finish behind Arky, OM, MSU, and LSU in the west with a conference record of 12-18 to 14-16. Will need to win a couple in Hoover to make a regional.

Baseball team defeated Troy earlier tonight 13-1. Offense is getting going early.

That would be nice to see.

Usually a Gross led offense tends to start off very slow, and eventually starts hitting better towards the SEC season or somewhat into it...

Still not sure what to expect from this team..will be interesting to see it progress...

3 game set against a Yale team that hasn't played since March of 2020 starting tonight at 6 pm. I expect a lot of pitching changes by Auburn. Armstrong is starting and he's really more of a swingman/stopper type. Did give 4 strong innings against OU last weekend.

I just checked our starting lineup and don’t recognize a single name. I feel like I’m doing Auburn fanhood wrong.

Jang we have a completely new team basically. Couple players and couple pitchers from last year and that's about it. That's why I have said just because we are picked last in the west don't rest on this team. We got a lot of transfers and some decent sticks. Should be pretty good defensively and probably run the bases. Not a lot power. Couple hitters could develop over the next year or so with some pop. Pitching is always obviously the key.

Watch for Sheehan, Gonzalez, Mullins to be possible weekend starters. Carson Skipper to be the setup guy, and then whoever they settle on as the closer which will probably be Burkhalter. Middle relief I have no idea.

Sonny DiChiara leds the conference in hitting and OBP. He's hitting like .650 and OBP of over .700. Big Boy got a nice stroke.

Jordan Armstrong finishes his day with 5.1 IP and 11 Ks. Auburn brings on John Armstrong in relief.

Me neither. I can’t remember the last Auburn baseball game I watched. That said, I still like Butch a lot. I think we could be perennial contenders with the right things in place.
