Thorne is the same guy who has been here for 2 years. Not sure why anyone is melting down.

In 2 years under a QB "whisperer", you'd expect some improvement. Throne has cost us the Cal game (FSU put up a better fight than us, and they have NO OFFENSE), and he cost us this game, which we had a 21-10 lead in. We're melting because we expected at least minimal improvement, not regression back to the mean. When Freeze was hired, we talked on this board about how Hugh knows how to coach up QB's, like Willis. Thorne some plays looks WORSE than he did last year. In the 4th, he mentally collapsed, and OU won the game, when they should have lost by 2 scores. We are melting because QB1 failed us and the HC lied to us.

Last year he was bad because we didn’t have WRs that could catch so we rarely threw the ball.

When we did throw the ball, he wiffed on his assignments a LOT. Rewatch the NMSU/LSU games. Yes, our WR corp was pretty bad last year, but a lot of the blame falls on the QB as well. Maybe we didn't run a lot of pass plays because the QB failed to connect with wide-open receivers (Maryland), or that he was following his first lead instead of scouring the field resulting in bad reads (NMSU/4th Quarter OU), or he just mentally caves (LSU). The lack of pass playcalling last year is on Thorne too, Corch.

his year we have WRs that can catch however they make plenty of mistakes

Yes, a lot of them are young. This is granted.

but Thorne throws a very catchable ball.

eh. debateable. Rewatch Cal, and look at a lot of the ball placement Thorne gives. Sometimes he's on the mark and other times, he just throws an awful ball (when he makes the right read).

To his WRs and to defenders.

That's the problem.

Regardless Thorne still gives this team the best chance to win ball games.

I wouldn't throw Hank in there, but yes 100% Thorne is the best we got. We lead against Georgia and gave Ole Miss a fight last year with him under center, but that was due more to the run game and playcalling rather than his theatrics (although he played pretty well against UGA, kudos to him )

At this point, Thorne sucks (that most of us can agree on). The sad fact is we don't have someone we can 100% say is better than him on the roster, other than White, who we literally can't play because we need to redshirt him. The fact of the matter is, it doesn't matter if we have an A+ team (which we don't), if that team doesn't have a decent QB, that team is not winning anything in modern college football. The defense, WRs, and Hunter deserve a better effort from Thorne.

Also what people forget to mention is the fact that the OL can't hold it for 4 quarters. That's...worrying. You can't have QB development if the OL can't keep it together. OU's DL is coached by a guy who terrorized OL's at Clemson for years, so obviously that room is legit, but you can't build a house and then get it to crumble. Thorne should obviously be better than what we saw on Saturday, but if the OL can't keep it up for 60 minutes, then expect Thorne to hide in his shell and get worse.

Also playcalling was incredibly dumb, but I don't think I have time to get into that right now. TL;DR of what I was going to say about that travesty is, if you're up 2+ scores, keep your foot on the gas. OU practically gave up when we went up 11, but Freeze wanted to keep the lead (which is not how you play the modern game. also, it's fricking oklahoma, not alabama a&m, they have talent and the coaching to pull a comeback off. for someone previously known for putting up points, why in the world would you play conservative? it puzzles me).

Just yikes all around.

No one is on here saying Thorne is a good QB.

He’s the best QB Auburn has currently.

YES

Do you make 6 million per year?

If not, you are underpaid.
