5 highly rated LBs other than Owen Pappoe most likely to join Auburn’s class (SECCountry)
quote:
There probably has been an Owen Pappoe overload the last few weeks. I can’t promise that will stop anytime soon. Check out my DieHards colleague Jeff Sentell’s updates on Pappoe’s commitment date, his insane SPARQ rating from The Opening regional in Charlotte, N.C., and where everything stands with his recruitment.
There will be more of that from my end in the days to come.
But @CJ4Six raises a good point. Auburn plans to sign a big recruiting class at linebacker, with its three senior starters leaving after the 2018 season. Linebackers coach Travis Williams has been hard at work already in this recruiting class with a few of the Tigers’ top targets.
Here is the latest on five blue-chip linebackers — outside of Pappoe — most likely to land in Auburn’s 2019 class.

quote:
5-star Nakobe Dean, Horn Lake, Miss.
For Auburn, it’ll be important to track Nakobe Dean’s return visit — and visits elsewhere.
Dean has visited the Plains only once this spring. It was a weekend-long visit with high school teammate Raydarious Jones, so it made a more lasting impression than a typical first visit. Still, Dean has visited several programs this spring, including Georgia, Alabama and LSU. Auburn is in the picture for Dean, but the same can be said for several other programs.
The Tigers have tried to get Dean on campus on two separate occasions since his first trip. No luck so far.
That’s likely to change with the evaluation period upon us. Auburn and others will be regulars in Horn Lake the next few months.
Until we get a 2nd visit from him not really sure we are actually a threat despite what Dean might say to media

quote:
4-star Donte Starks, Marrero, La.
Stealing a top linebacker from Louisiana normally would come as a surprise.
That wouldn’t necessarily be the case with Donte Starks.
LSU is a likely landing spot for Starks. Some still might call the home-state team the favorite, but Auburn is a serious threat. His relationship with Williams is closer than it is with any other coach in the country.
Starks has been to Auburn twice this spring. His interest is sky-high.
He declines to name a leader. It is that close.
“T-Will played the linebacker position at Auburn, so he can relate to things that we go through with our body and things like that. He’s a great father, coach, husband and person, so it’s always good to be around a person like that,” Starks told SEC Country last month. “Our relationship is as close as if I’ve been knowing him all my life.”
AU wins 9-10 games, LSU collapses & who knows, might pull this thing off. LSU will be hard to beat tho

quote:
4-star Ge’Mon Eaford, Deerfield Beach, Fla.
Ge’Mon Eaford has been on Auburn’s radar since a camp last summer, when a large portion of the Deerfield Beach (Fla.) team made its way to the Plains for a camp and multiday visit. Eaford made one of the biggest impressions on Auburn, and vice versa. He has been to Auburn once this spring, but he’s visited several other programs too, most recently Oklahoma. One of his teammates signed there in the Class of 2018.
Eaford is near the top of Auburn’s linebacker board, though it’s a crowded group, especially with the latest move for Pappoe.
Kinda feel like he could end up at the Buck spot

quote:
4-star Vonta Bentley, Birmingham, Ala.
Last time I spoke with Vonta Bentley, he referenced more than once his wish to hear more from Auburn. At the time, he had been hearing much more from Clemson and quite a bit more from Alabama. Two days after that, Bentley was back on the Plains to meet with Auburn coaches.
Auburn’s lack of involvement so far has nothing to do with a lack of interest in Bentley. The Tigers want him. Now they just have to prove it.
Bentley has developed a strong relationship with the Clemson staff, and there are a few strong connections at Alabama. The connection to Auburn has to do with his two high school teammates — TD Moultry and Coynis Miller — who have signed with the Tigers in the last two recruiting classes.
This likely shapes up to be an Alabama vs. Clemson vs. Auburn battle.
We must be feeling pretty good about one or both of Dean/Starks to not be pressing for this kid. Interested to see if that changes, love his tape

quote:
4-star Kalen Deloach, Savannah, Ga.
Kalen Deloach has been a lesser-mentioned linebacker this spring, but he’s a rising star in the 2019 class.
Deloach has picked up an Opening invite and has visited several of the nation’s top programs. Everyone wants in on the Deloach sweepstakes, and that isn’t stopping anytime soon. He has visited the Plains only once this spring. It was for a junior day, so the personal attention wasn’t as much as he would’ve liked.
Deloach hopes to return to Auburn this spring to talk more in-depth with Williams and defensive coordinator Kevin Steele, who Deloach listed as a coach recruiting him that has made a serious impression on him.
One of my favorites in this class

5-star LB Owen Pappoe updates recruitment amid recent Auburn buzz (SECCountry)
quote:
5-star linebacker gives latest on his recruitment
Owen Pappoe’s name has been a headline driver the last month.
Since he set his May 5 decision date — which has been changed to May 1 for television purposes — Pappoe has been the center of recruiting attention for Auburn, Georgia, LSU and others. Auburn and Georgia have been at the forefront of the conversation since he called the Bulldogs his No. 1 and the Tigers his No. 2 last month.
Several predictions have come in from reporters in the industry (including in these Auburn recruiting notebooks), but little has come directly from Pappoe since his three-day visit to the Plains last week.
Pappoe has seen and heard most of it and wanted to set the record straight. He spoke with my DawgNation colleague Jeff Sentell over the weekend to give the latest.
“If you don’t hear it from the man, don’t believe it. It’s just rumors,” Pappoe said.
Pappoe directs that at the many fans who have reached out to him in recent days under the impression the media trend toward Auburn was absolute truth. He sends the same message to all the local people who have operated under the assumption for many years that Pappoe (Grayson/Loganville, Ga.) would wind up playing for the home-state team.
He clarified that to Georgia coaches who reached out to him in the wake of the Auburn buzz.
“They’re like, ‘What’s all this talk about Auburn?’ I was like, ‘Coach, just let the media be the media.’ If they don’t hear it coming from me, just don’t listen to it. That’s what I told them,” Pappoe said. “Everybody [in his area] thinks I’m going to Georgia, so I let them think what they want to think.”
What has become abundantly clear — and Pappoe readily admits — is this has become close.
He told Barton Simmons of 247Sports that he has a strong feeling about the school he wants to commit to. In his conversation with SEC Country, Pappoe revealed for the first time that he has no leaders heading into the May 1 decision. That’s a major move from calling Georgia his top school for a majority of the process.
“It’s close,” Pappoe said. “How did Auburn catch up? Every time I went to Auburn was for a game or a camp. Everything was moving fast. I didn’t really spend time with the coaches like that. Getting to sit down with coaches and my family and just watch film with them, it really caught my eye.”
Pappoe’s regular visits to Auburn likely aren’t finished before his announcement.
The nation’s No. 1 linebacker has official visits set up the next two weekends to Penn State and Texas. He still plans to make it back to Auburn or Georgia for unofficial visits, but he won’t take officials there — at least this spring. Pappoe wants to save two official visit dates for the fall.
That brings up an obvious question: Will his recruitment be shut down on May 1?
The easy answer to that is no, but it needs a little more context than that. Pappoe will take those last two official visits this fall regardless of which school he chooses. That could be Auburn and Georgia. It could be two schools much more out of the norm from what he’s visited so far, much like the Penn State and Texas visits.
But Pappoe said he’ll be “pretty locked in” to the school he picks next month.
If that choice is Auburn, Pappoe said one factor will be key to maintaining that commitment.
“I just want to make sure I play with some dogs, so I want to see how this recruiting class goes,” Pappoe said. “I’ve been getting offers since eighth grade. I’ve put a lot of thought into it. I believe whatever decision I make will be the right one for me.”

apparently the only 3 OVs that John Emery knows of for sure are UGA, UF and Michigan. Long article by Chad Simmons on Rivals with him, but Auburn isn't even mentioned. We better feel good about Noah Cain.
Posted on 4/17/18 at 8:46 am to WareagleKK
Just saw that and was kinda surprised. Honestly would not be surprised if this ends up another Dell McGee special. Emery seemed really fired up about that visit
Which sucks because he's my favorite back in this class. Hopefully can get him on campus again soon or at least are sitting better with Cain than we think

Morning nuggets on 247 board from keef:
Some morning intel/thoughts on 5-star LB Owen Pappoe and 4-star OT Wanya Morris.
-As of right now, I think Owen commits to AU. Certainly not 100% on that. More like 60%. I don't like giving percentages. Try to avoid that.
-I think AU is closing the gap on UT with Wanya. Wanya now will OV to Tennessee this weekend, then to Auburn next weekend as we reported last night. I'm told that is significant.
-With Wanya, I'm told AU not only is working him hard, but really has made an effort to communicate as much as possible with his mother. I don't take this relationship lightly.
-Keeping my Crystal Ball on "foggy" for Morris for now. Want to see how this UT visit goes. Certainly putting this one back in the 50-50 corner, whereas I had UT with a slight edge until last night.
-Re: Jakai Clark, their Grayson (Ga.) teammate: Sounds like that's having the impact on these guys AU hoped it would.
As Rusty and Kipp point out a lot, we're dealing with teenagers here so you never really know until the commitment is made.
Kid tells you one thing. Parent tells you something. Your sources have info. Then you try to piece it all together -- and hope 1. your sources are strong and 2. people are leveling with you.
With guys like Kyle Davis and Derrick Brown, I trusted my soures and was right.
With Julian Rochester, people were saying AU -- and he was saying UGA. I leaned too much on sources for too long.
Can't always be right.
We'll find out May 1.

Holy crap we just got a commit from 3* CB Cordale Flott
247 profile
Love his tape. Has a big frame, will need to add weight but gives us some size at CB

Agreed. He's got the frame to fill in at the boundary CB down the road. Nice to add some more length to the secondary. Could also slide over & play safety

Yep. His tape is pretty good, though limited competition. Seems to find the ball well, which is a big plus. My only fear is he may end of like John Broussard who just can't seem to put on weight. Broussard is still young obviously, but he just seems like one of those guys that can't put on any weight.

Auburn lands commitment from in-state cornerback Cordale Flott (SECCountry)
quote:
Auburn made a splash in the defensive backfield on Tuesday.
Cordale Flott — one of the two in-state cornerbacks to watch — committed to the Tigers. Flott has visited Auburn at least twice this spring, including an overnight trip early in the spring that allowed Flott and his parents to grow close to the Auburn staff. Flott visited Florida over the weekend and called the Gators his leader, but this was bound to be an in-state battle.
Flott was one of the two in-state cornerbacks that Auburn really wanted. The Tigers felt they needed to land at least one of the two — the other being Daphne (Ala.) corner Christian Williams. Williams committed to Alabama on Monday, and it didn’t take long for Auburn to bring the other one on board.
Flott is a 6-foot-1, 170-pound cornerback from Saraland, Ala. His long arms have caught the attention of several SEC coaching staffs. Flott ranks as the No. 81 safety and No. 966 overall player, according to the 247Sports composite, but Auburn saw him as one of the top cornerback options on the board.
With Flott’s commitment, Auburn has four prospects in the 2019 class with quarterback Bo Nix, wide receiver George Pickens and center Jakai Clark. Flott’s pledge moved the Tigers up to No. 29 in the national team rankings, and it appears there is some momentum to be had.
Flott also held offers from Alabama, Florida, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Mississippi State, Nebraska and Tennessee.

In-state CB commits to Auburn (Rivals)
quote:
Auburn has picked up a commitment from an in-state cornerback.
Saraland's Cordale Flott announced his decision Tuesday morning on Twitter.
Flott chose Auburn over offers from Florida, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Missouri, Oregon and Arkansas, among others.
Flott, who stands 6-foot-1 and weighs 160 pounds, has been high on Auburn since visiting in March.
“They showed me that not everything revolves around football,” Flott said after the visit. “They would take care of me. They’re like family. Coach (Kevin) Steele is a caring person. I can tell that already. He feels I would be a good fit in their defense, and that I could make an impact if I go there and earn it.”
Flott also met with Gus Malzahn during the visit.
“He’s a great person,” Flott said. “He’s really strict with the way he handles his program and the football players.”
Flott is the fourth player in the 2019 class to commit to Auburn. He joins four-star quarterback Bo Nix, four-star receiver George Pickens and three-star center Jakai Clark.
