When's the last time or two that we've won one of these?
I feel like anytime "AU is making it a battle" we always end up being rejected.

Anthony Schwartz as well but I get the skepticism. I would be stunned if Starks left Louisiana but more he visits better the chances

Auburn’s primary needs at 3 positions in 2019 recruiting class (SECCountry)
quote:
Auburn has a few top needs in the 2019 class.
Last week, we took a look at the No. 1 priority in the class. But as most recruiting followers know, there is rarely only one thing a program needs to shore up through recruiting. In Auburn’s 2019 recruiting cycle, there are three position groups that will be the immediate emphasis for the Tigers.
Auburn will hone in on tackles, defensive linemen and cornerbacks in the 2019 class.
At tackle, the recruiting need is well known. Auburn has some long-term security at tackle if Prince Tega Wanogho and Calvin Ashley are the go-to tackles this year. But Auburn didn’t land any tackles in the 2018 class and will need to fix that this year.
Here are three top-tier tackles Auburn has hosted so far this spring:
4-star Wanya Morris, Loganville, Ga.
4-star Xavier Truss, Warwick, R.I.
4-star Amari Kight, Alabaster, Ala.
Auburn won’t be at a loss for defensive linemen in the 2018 season. But how much will be leftover after 2018? Andrew Williams and Dontavius Russell will be gone. Derrick Brown, Marlon Davidson and Nick Coe could be gone. Rodney Garner has landed a few big prospects the last couple cycles — TD Moultry, Big Kat Bryant and Coynis Miller — but he’ll need to double down on that in the 2019 class.
He’s already gotten started this spring.
Here are three DL recruits who have been at Auburn this spring:
4-star Nathan Pickering, Seminary, Miss.
4-star Justin Eboigbe, Forest Park, Ga.
4-star Jaelin Humphries, Lawrenceville, Ga.
The last position of need is one Auburn could use this spring, not just through the 2019 class.
The Tigers are thin at cornerback. So much so that receiver-turned-corner Noah Igbinoghene ran with the first-team defense during media availability Thursday. Auburn has offered 20-plus cornerbacks in the class so even if the Tigers don’t land on their first or second priority targets, they’ll have plenty of serviceable backup options to add depth.
Here are three elite corners who have been on the Plains this spring:
4-star Christian Williams, Daphne, Ala.
4-star Kaiir Elam, North Palm Beach, Fla.
4-star Devin Bush, New Orleans, La.

5 things Auburn fans need to know before Atlanta Opening (SECCountry)
quote:
The Opening camp circuit arrives in Atlanta on Sunday.
Roughly 500 of the Southeast’s best prospects will congregate at Buford High School for the annual regional showcase. Several Auburn updates are expected to come from the event.
Here are the five things Auburn fans need to watch:
Posted on 3/25/18 at 7:14 am to TigerPaw1
quote:
1. Bo Nix is shooting for back-to-back QB MVPs
At last year’s Atlanta Opening, then-uncommitted quarterback Bo Nix became the first underclassman to win a QB MVP award at an Opening region. That means on Sunday the now-Auburn commit will have an opportunity to become the first back-to-back or two-time winner of the award in the football showcase’s storied history.
Nix’s path last year went through eventual Florida signee Emory Jones.
This year he’ll have an entire stable of competition.
Taulia Tagovailoa (2019), Harrison Bailey (2020), Sam Howell (2019), Aaron McLaughlin (2021) and Max Johnson (2020) are the highly rated quarterbacks expected to be Nix’s biggest competition.
Big chance for Nix today to show out

quote:
2. George Pickens will match up against the nation’s best — with something to prove
George Pickens is only ranked as the nation’s No. 26 wide receiver despite virtually every top Southeast program’s attempt to flip him from Auburn.
Sunday will be the perfect opportunity Pickens to change the perception of that.
The on-field, in-game production is there. Pickens and Shedrick Jackson tore up the state of Alabama last year, and that was during Pickens’ junior season. They went on to win a state championship for the second straight season in Alabama’s high classification, so unlike some guys ranked below where they should be, Pickens has proved plenty on the real high school football stage.
On Sunday, however, he’ll be lined up in drills alongside guys such as 5-star Georgia commit Jadon Haselwood and 4-star target Jashawn Sheffield. What I expect many to see is what Auburn saw in Pickens last summer during its camp. He’s a 6-foot-5, 190-pound receiver who can run and jump with the best of him. How he matches up against the nation’s best will be fun to watch.

3. Where does Auburn stand with its linebacker targets?
Auburn is casting a national net at linebacker, but as always, the Tigers will search their typical pipeline, too.
Many of those nearby guys will be in attendance for the Opening Atlanta regional. Here are the four linebackers to keep a close eye on in terms of performance and what they say about their recruitment following the event.
5-star Nakobe Dean
4-star Kalen Deloach
4-star Vonta Bentley
4-star Tra Wilkins

4. Who surprises with their heavy interest in Auburn?
Last year’s event was a coming-out party for one big Auburn target: Quindarious Monday.
He made a name for himself at the camp with his playmaking ability and leadership persona.
It was at this camp that Monday called Auburn his leader for the first time. There’s a lot of time between now and when many of these prospects commit. But it’s early in the cycle, and sometimes that’s when recruits are most honest about how they’re feeling at that specific time. And then when they go to make their decision a few months later, it’s usually those early cycle emotions that drive their eventual decision.
It’s hard to know who exactly that guy will be from the 2018 version of the camp, but a few are likely to emerge.

5. Top targets from Alabama expected to compete
Atlanta will be flooded with some of the Tigers’ top targets from the Yellowhammer State. In addition to Nix and Pickens mentioned above, the following players from Alabama are expected to compete:
5-star center Clay Webb
4-star linebacker Mohamoud Diabate
4-star defensive lineman DJ Dale
4-star linebacker Vonta Bentley
4-star cornerback Christian Williams
3-star safety Ray Thornton
3-star cornerback Cordale Flott
2020 4-star cornerback Malachi Moore
2020 4-star athlete Kristian Story

4-star Thompson OL considering Bama and Auburn in wide-open recruiting battle (AL.com)
quote:
At 6-foot-7 and 305 pounds, Thompson offensive lineman Amari Kight is one of the state's biggest football prospects in the Class of 2019.
So big that at least one SEC school found a unique way to grab his attention.
"Mississippi State sent me a whole deck of cards," he said.
Say what?
"There's, what, 52 cards in a deck?" he said. "They sent me 52 letters and each one had a different card in it. That was unique."
Kight, a 4-star prospect in the Class of 2019, is holding his recruiting preferences close to the vest. Kight said he has no immediate timetable for when he'll make a college decision and added he hasn't yet decided where he will attend summer camps.
"I want to find somewhere I can grow and somewhere I feel like I connect with the coaches and players," he said.
Kight holds offers Alabama, Auburn and virtually every SEC school, as well as Notre Dame, Michigan, Oklahoma and Nebraska. He is uncommitted, indicated he has no leader and said recruiting "is going good so far."
Projected as a left tackle in college, Kight is one of the elite offensive lineman prospects in the state's Class of 2019, alongside uncommitted 5-star Clay Webb of Oxford and 5-star Alabama commit and Hewitt-Trussville star Pierce Quick.
For now, Kight said he's busy preparing for his senior high school season after the Warriors finished 12-1 and advanced to the Class 7A semifinals last year.
"We can really do more than we did last season," he said. "We know what it's like to experience being a playoff team and being a top team."

Florida TE visits Auburn, hoping for offer (Rivals)
quote:
AUBURN | Cardinal Gibbons (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) tight end Nikolas Ognenovic doesn’t have an offer from Auburn. Not yet, at least.
That could change in the coming weeks.
“They are going to come down in the spring,” Ognenovic said. “They want to see my competitiveness, see how I perform in pads. They are going to continue to watch me and continue to stay in contact with me.
“They said that I fit the spot and they would love to have me. They love that I have soft hands and my ability to block. They like that I high-point the ball.”
Ognenovic, who stands 6-foot-6 and weighs 235 pounds, visited Auburn for the first time on Saturday. He met and spoke with Auburn tight ends coach Larry Porter.
“It’s wonderful and beautiful,” Ognenovic said. “It has great tradition and it’s a really nice play to be. It feels like a family. They are showing a lot of love.”
Ognenovic hopes Auburn shows up with an offer. If so, the Tigers would be an instant contender.
“They’d definitely be near the top, if not at the top,” Ognenovic said.
Ognenovic plans to return to Auburn in the fall.
“I plan on coming back,” he said. “I love Coach Porter. We are continuing to build a relationship. He wants me back up here maybe to watch a game.”
Ognenovic has offers from Boston College, Kentucky, Pitt, Syracuse, Rutgers, Indiana, South Florida and Central Michigan. He plans to visit Pitt, Syracuse and Boston College next weekend.

Auburn makes 'big impression' on 4-star DL (Rivals)
quote:
AUBURN | Four-star defensive lineman Jaren Handy visited Auburn for the first time on Saturday, and he’s already planning to return.
The former LSU commitment spent the day watching the Tigers scrimmage and meeting with the coaches.
“I loved it,” Handy said. “It was one of the better visits I’ve been on.”
Handy, from Perry Central in New Augusta, Miss., met and spoke with area recruiter Marcus Woodson, defensive line coach Rodney Garner, defensive coordinator Kevin Steele, coach Gus Malzahn and even Malzahn’s wife, Kristi.
“I liked the coaches being real with me,” Handy said. “And I loved the defensive coach…I love Coach Garner.”
Handy plans to return to Auburn on June 2. He doesn’t list any leaders, but said Auburn made a move on Saturday.
“I don’t have anybody standing out right now, but Auburn made a big impression on me,” Handy said. “They said they’ll be sending off No. 5 (Derrick Brown) and No. 3 (Marlon Davidson) after their junior years, hopefully, so I could come in and start as a true freshman.”
Rivals ranks Handy, who stands 6-foot-5 and weighs 273 pounds, the No. 4 player in Mississippi, the No. 14 strongside defensive end in the country and No. 128 in the Rivals250.
