Aight catching up on recruiting news from the weekend. I know that game sucked but apparently, the environment was impressive as a ton of recruits have raved about it. Also, many recruits appear to share Derick Hall's belief that the refs robbed AU
So at least we got that going our way
Here's summary of Wolk's Sunday recruiting insider
- One of the nicest surprises for AU was visit from 4* OT Amari Kight, a Bama commit. This was one of his first visits to AU since committing to Tide. Raved about the atmosphere & says coaching staff remains in contact with him. Speaks most often with Gus & JB. Says he gotten a lot closer with JB & AU selling chance to play early. He plans to take an OV to AU later this fall & says "Auburn has a chance"
- 2020 4* QB Robby Ashford says AU continues to tell him he's "their guy" in the 2020 class. Says he talks to Chip Lindsey all the time. Hates that AU lost but thought it was a great game overall. AU/UGA/FSU/MSST his top teams. AU's biggest advantages right now is his relationship with AU coaches & fact teammate Pickens is going to AU.
- AU is the major favorite for 2020 3* WR EJ Williams. Told Wolk that AU leads "by a lot" & has thought about committing. But he's holding off due as his mom wants him to take his time with his decision. Williams says his mom likes AU the most too she just doesn't want him to rush his commitment. Says AU feels like home & his mom is really comfortable with AU & coaching staff too
- 2021 ATH Ga'Quincy McKinstry is already being recruited incredibly hard by the Tigers. AU likes him as a DB while other see him at WR, he says doesn't have a preference at this time. No timetable for his decision but AU is a major factor early
- Noah Cain's father game to the game but Wolk admits that result probably not favorable for AU's chances
- Both Jamond Gordon & Jaren Handy made the trip to the Plains
- Wolk says a group of AU commits & targets hung out on field pregame & sat together all game. Group was Owen Pappoe, Cam'Ron Kelly, Colby Wooden, Derick Hall & Kalen Deloach. That would be a nice bunch to see on field together in future....
- Based off Rivals rankings, AU had at least seven 5*s on campus & it might have been two more tho Wolk could not have confirmed them. The 5*s he saw that he could confirm were Bo Nix, George Pickens, Owen Pappoe, Ishmael Sopsher, Clay Webb, Arik Gilbert & Myles Murphy. Two he did not see but were expected there were McKinnley Jackson & Leonard Manuel
So at least we got that going our way

What’s with this latest update on Owen?
Posted on 9/17/18 at 8:11 am to Marines4Auburn
He's all AU. Bummed AU lost but said focus this week was on recruiting. He spent a ton of time with Derick Hall & Kalen Deloach. Also said after talking with AU coaching staff has decided not to take OV to Tennessee. He still plans to OV to AU for the Tennessee game
Posted on 9/17/18 at 8:18 am to TigerPaw1
Rivals also has an article up on quotes from 5* visitors. Here's summary
- Owen Pappoe says AU played hard but calls didn't go their way. Praised Deshaun Davis & loved the atmosphere. Think he got one commitment but won't say who. Spent most of the time talking with Kalen Deloach & Derick Hall. Says Deloach was hyping FSU early but Pappoe gave him a hard time after FSU lost to Syracuse 30-7. Still plans to OV for Tenenssee game with Wanya Morris & Colby Wooden
- Ishmael Sopsher called AU's campus "beautiful". Not sure who will get OVs & says hasn't talked a ton with AU staff outside of Kodi (FWIW KN says he spent the night & had a chance for a long conversation with Garner Sunday morning)
- 2020 5* Myles Murphy said it was a great game but thought AU got some bad calls. Loved the atmosphere & says if he were to release a top 5 today AU would be in it. Apparently AU is recruiting him at the Buck. Wants to commit before the start of next school year. Asked about what stands out for AU said it's family. After game nobody in locker room were blaming each other instead were talking together to figure out how to get better. No conflicts
- LOL 2020 4* Jayson Jones said "There were a lot of mistakes, a lot of calls that shouldn’t have been called … it was just a messed up game. It was sloppy". Pretty accurate tbh. It was his first AU game & he was shocked. Grew up a Bama fan & never considered visiting AU but after Saturday was blown away & will now consider AU. Will 100% be back & loved how crowd was into every single play. Said "loud" like five times when describing the environment

???Noah Cain's father game to the game but Wolk admits that result probably not favorable for AU's chances ???
English? If I’m reading this correctly you’re saying a one point loss doesn’t bode well for us. Who does that?

Rivals update on 4* RB Kenny McIntosh. Before his visit AU apparently didn't really have much of a chance according to McIntosh. Thought i was "just another school" but his OV changed everything. Loved his visit & was blown away by the environment despite AU losing. Says never been around that many ppl yelling at one time. Was hosted by Eli Stove but also spent a lot of time with Anthony Schwartz & Owen Pappoe. He will get a chance to see AU 2 more times as he will OV to UGA for AU game & OV to Bama for Iron Bowl. Gave his visit a 9/9.5 out of 10

Rivals also has update on 4* LB Kalen Deloach. After his OV says AU has a big shot at flipping his commitment. Calls his recruitment a 2 team race between AU & FSU. Wants to keep visiting both to see which is best fit. Raved about the gameday atmosphere & loved that fans were loud even tho didn't come away with the W. He was hosted by Darrell Williams & spent a lot of time with Owen Pappoe & Cam'Ron Kelly. Plans to OV to FSU in late November. Admits that on field success could play a role in his recruitment between FSU & AU

Noah Cain has consistently said that LSU is pretty much his favorite but wants to see how well they perform to start the season. Going into AU & winning means they are off to a 3-0 start with 2 top 10 wins. They've backed up what they sold him so it's going to be hard to get him now. AU needed LSU to stumble out the gates & AU definitely needed to win Saturday to fend off LSU

KN had a follow up note on Ishmael Sopsher. He & his family stayed the night & had a very long meeting with AU coaching staff. AU thinks they can get him on campus again for a visit
Posted on 9/17/18 at 8:31 am to TigerPaw1
4* OG William Putnam says had a great time on OV. Loved the dynamic between players, coaches & commits. Said "it just felt right". He apparently had 2 player hosts in Will Appleton & John Shenker. What stood out with them is they both genuinely loved AU & told him that what you see with coaches is what you get. Spent most of his time with AU commits Luke Deal & Tyler Fromm both sold the family aspect. Spent lots of time with JB Grimes & thinks he's "just a great, great man". Wants to make commitment in mid-November. After visit he's even higher on AU. Knew already they had a good team & nice facilities but came away really impressed with overall culture after visit. Thinks he would fit in well with team. This is still an AU/FSU battle with CLEM possibly team to watch. KN thinks AU has made a big move in recent months
Posted on 9/17/18 at 8:33 am to TigerPaw1
4* Buck Derick Hall told KN that AU is still his #1 team. A decision could happen soon possibly by next week. This was his 4th visit to AU & even tho AU lost thinks they have a great team & some of the best coaches in the country. AU did a good job selling academics on this visit as he wants to major in engineering. Says was big for his family to have those talks. Hung out a lot with AU commits & said Pappoe was all over him about committing. Had a great face-to-fact convo with Gus & loves fact he's being recruited as a pass rusher. Plans to be an early enrollee

KN has 2 different insiders. One on Saturday before the game & one Sunday. Here's summary of both
- 5* C Clay Webb was with his mom & got a lot of attention from JB Grimes & Bo Nix. Webb's Tiger hostess was Nix's older sister. Still an AU/BAMA/UGA fight
- 3 Bama commits made it to the game: 4* OT Amari Kight, 2020 4* DT Jayson Jones & 4* ATH Dazalin Worhsam
- Both Luke Dealy & Nix spent a lot of time with 4* OG William Putnam pregame. Deal & Putnam have apparently grown close since Big Cat Weekend. Apparently AU commits were quick to point out to Putnam how bad FSU did Saturday
- Derick Hall made his OV with his mom & grandmother. All were decked out in AU gear
- 3* DT LeDarrius Cox made the trip. AU likes their chances & KN confirms he's a take
- KN said he spotted 4* PG Tyrell Jones at the game too Saturday. Decision could come soon for him & AU probably team to beat
- Also saw newest bball commit 4* F Jaylin Williams. He was hanging out with Bruce & some other bball prospects before the game
- Pappoe was disappointed AU lost but his focus for the weekend was recruiting namely going after Derick Hall & Kalen Deloach. Pappoe seemed more optimistic on AU landing Hall than Deloach. Gave Deloach a hard time about how bad FSU has been.
- AU still the leader for 2020 3* WR EJ Williams tho CLEM lurks as a threat
- Apparently 2020 4* RB Roydell Williams ended up not making it to WASH game as he had hoped but was there for LSU. Says it's basically a tie between BAMA/AU right now but admits the Tigers are recruiting him the hardest. Liked AU's offense Saturday & thinks he's a good fit
- 2020 4* QB Robby Ashford is high on AU's coaching staff & thought it was a great game overall. Wants to start narrowing things down later this year. Not only is Chip Lindsey recruiting him hard but so is Butch Thompson. Ashford did admit that AU bringing in Bo Nix in 2019 could factor in his decision but says he feels like he could be up to the challenge
- Kight had lots of positive things to say about AU when leaving. AU has stayed after him despite his Bama commitment. But KN thinks this is going to be a really tough flip. Need to get an OV
- Sounds like AU made a very big impression with 2020 Bama commit Jayson Jones & he will be back. But KN thinks that it's highly unlikely Dazalin Worsham is a flip candidate
- 2020 5* DL Myles Murphy had a lot of positive things to say about AU after game including being impressed by how team carried itself in locker room after the loss. KN believes AU is very much in the hunt for Murphy along with BAMA/CLEM/UGA. He's very close with Garner
- UF commit 4* LB Mohamoud Diabate was at the game but KN doesn't think there's much to it right now
- 3* DB Nehemiah Pritchett still is high on AU but no longer calls them his leader due to AU being patient. Ole Miss & Troy appear to be top teams right now. KN thinks his recruitment will pickup with more teams in coming weeks
- 5* C Clay Webb was with his mom & got a lot of attention from JB Grimes & Bo Nix. Webb's Tiger hostess was Nix's older sister. Still an AU/BAMA/UGA fight

I said this to some people Saturday. With the players that are down to AU/FSU, at least they look waaaay shittier than we do with GusShortBus.

Ok so when are we going to start pressing for some of these other guys. Derrian Brown has gone to Texas and Tahj Gary appears to be Va Tech.
Richards is long shot with his brother at Miami
So where does that leave us? Kenny Macintosh?

I suspect that happens starting this week. KN has said repeatedly that AU expects to know where they stand with Cain by end of October but I'm guessing LSU's start will make that easier. They will undoubtedly stay after him but I bet we see them start to focus more on the next options
With that said, not sure they will take Gary or Tye Edwards just yet. I think they turn the heat up even further on Mark-Antony Richards & they apparently made a big move with McIntosh. Interested to see what news comes out this week. Would not be surprised to hear that AU coaches attend someone like Edwards's game this week

Auburn had a 100 yard rusher. LSU had a 60 yard rusher. Plus they looked pathetic against SE Louisiana. A one point win thanks to a gutsy performance from the grad transfer QB (which is completely irrelevant to what their team may look like in the years to come) shouldn’t ever solidify any recruit’s decision.

Take it up with Noah Cain
I'm just telling ya what has been reported numerous times before that Cain favors LSU but wanted to see them perform well to start the season due to the Ed O hot seat rumors. Those are settled so I suspect he lands with LSU

I’m butthurt because I want an elite RB. That is all. We have the offensive philosophy and the history of turning both the semi talented and elite talented RBs into the BMOC but the elite RBs are more efficient and electric.
Posted on 9/17/18 at 10:34 am to jangalang
I think Richards is best shot at that. I know many think he's a lock to MIA but if there's any coach we have consistently stolen should be locks from it's Mark Richt. He wants to play RB but they want him at DB. This just feels like one of those patented Richt somehow screws it up type of recruitments
2020 is off to a strong start with Roydell & Tank. Get either one of those & it's a success
