To me our DB class right now looks like

CB - Jaylin Simpson, Zion Puckett
S - Jashawn Sheffield, Cam'Ron Kelly

Add either Nehemiah Pritchett, Kenny Logan or Dreshun Miller to that group & we good. Wouldn't be surprised if we just stuck with those 4 though & use that scholly elsewhere (like maybe OL or DL)
Also add Kadarian Handy-Holly at Safety & you have a nice 2019 group.

Thanks. With us recruiting so well at DB, and the amount of guys we are taking had me wondering if there was an issue for this season.
We started the year short at Safety depth. Thanks to the freshmen supposedly coming on strong we have 4 quality Safeties. If 1 or both didn't come in strong we would have only 2 or 3 quality safeties.

Is Cam'Ron Kelly the db that has speed concerns?

Good call, forgot about him

So we could end up bringing 6 DBs in this class. That seems like staff either think a bunch of juniors are going pro or they aren't happy with some guys now. Or maybe both

KN has insider up this morning on DL

- Although AU isn't optimistic on their chances of flipping 4* DL Charles Moore, chances are still good that he officially visits this fall

- Chances are slim tho that State commit 4* DL Nathan Pickering OVs. AU has not spoken with him since his commitment. This is me guessing but considering he was on the way for an OV, stopped somewhere else & committed staff might just decide it ain't worth the trouble especially with 3 guys on board already & Cox probably flipping soon

- Speaking of Cox, AU still feels good & KN thinks flip could come soon

#STAYWOLK: Surprise cornerback news on Auburn's horizon? (
quote:

Here's an inside look at things happening in and around Auburn from new AuburnSports.com reporter Benjamin Wolk:

• Could some great, surprise recruiting news be on the horizon for Auburn? That's the direction it's trending on Wednesday. Oscar Smith (Va.) defensive back Cam'Ron Kelly announced via Twitter last night he will use Wednesday, his mother's birthday, to announce his commitment. Auburn is the team to beat, as the Tigers have been since he visited for the cookout at the end of the summer. That's not to say Auburn isn't fending off competitors here. Clemson and Penn State have also been after Kelly since he de-committed from Virginia Tech in July. But, from what I've been told, Auburn was the primary reason for Kelly's de-commitment in July, and the Tigers remain in the driver's seat leading up to the Wednesday decision.

• LIsted as an athlete and safety by some services, Auburn actually views Kelly as a cornerback. If he commits Wednesday, that would give the Tigers Jaylin Simpson, Zion Puckett and Kelly as cornerback commits in this class. A source told AuburnSports.com's Jeffrey Lee post-Puckett commitment that the Tigers would likely take 1-2 more cornerbacks in the 2019 class. Kelly is one of those. That creates a bit of a waiting game for guys such as Nehemiah Pritchett and Kenny Logan. It helps explain the wait on Pritchett's decision. If Auburn were to take one of Pritchett and Logan, the expected preference would be Pritchett who has the full support of several coaches on the Tigers' defensive staff.

• Every time I've posted an insider at AuburnSports.com so far, some witty poster has commented with a quip about Auburn playing five offensive guards on the line. For starters, tackle Justin Osborne is already in the 2019 class. Smart money suggests the Tigers will add another, but those names are likely to form over the course of the next few months. J.B. Grimes is still rekindling relationships and it'll be a cycle-long effort. The Tigers are already starting to set the stage for 2020, though. Rivals.com's Chad Simmons wrote at length about 2020 tackle Tate Ratledge who is more interested in Auburn than oftentimes publicly suggested. An out-of-pipeline 2020 prospect to keep an eye on: Chris Mayo. I caught up with Mayo last week, and he said he wants to treat every offer neutrally so early in his process, but he thinks Auburn is "a different, special place."

• At assistant coach media day, the AuburnSports.com crew split up among the position coaches. I was responsible for cornerbacks coach Marcus Woodson and linebackers coach Travis Williams — two rising stars in the profession, in my opinion. This isn't ground-breaking news, but I made sure to get both of their recruiting areas just to relay exactly what recruits they assigned. Woodson has Memphis (Tennessee), all of Mississippi, Tuscaloosa (Ala.) area going into Mississippi and secondary on any out-of-territory cornerbacks. Williams — who said he just "goes where the players are" — is assigned Jacksonville (Fla.), Gwinnett County (Ga.), Covington (Ga.), Athens (Ga.), Augusta (Ga.) and part of the Carolinas. Those are two of Auburn's best recruiters, and as a results, you're going to see a lot of guys commit to Auburn from those areas.

• The last three insiders have all had some form of update on running backs. I'll try not to overload you with running back intel, but at the same time, it may be the position fans are most curious about updates. Speaking with a source last week, paraphrasing some, here's what I found out about Auburn's running back search. The Tigers are, in fact, putting most of their eggs in the Noah Cain basket. He's been their No. 1 running back target from start to finish, and that isn't changing. With that said, Auburn isn't likely to get any firm answers it really wants from Cain and his family until October. The Tigers are aware this can put them in a tricky spot if they miss on Cain. But, according to the source, Auburn is keeping the stoves warm on a running back committed to another school, though that name or school was not specifically revealed to me. That falls in line with my reporting on Nebraska commit Ronald Thompkins the last few weeks. There are other committed running backs that could qualify, but there is clearly a relationship there between Thompkins, the Auburn staff and several commits.

JLee says Kelly is a Dec grad.

Also from JLee so take with grain of salt but this is how he sees class filling out

quote:

Here's my best guess at the remaining spots...

16. DB Cam Kelly
17. CB Nehemiah Pritchett
18. DE Derick Hall
19. DT LeDarrius Cox
20. LB TBA
21. LB TBA
22. WR Curry or Haselwood
23. RB TBA
25. OT TBA
25. OG Kamaar Bell

Agrees with KN that Tyron Hopper looks to be most flippable. Should note pretty sure AU will only take 24 so Handy-Holly can go on scholly after this season

And Adonis Otey who committed to Arky because AU wouldn't take his commitment twice.

Guessing he's officially committed to the staff

FYI KN put in a CB for 2020 4* QB Robby Ashford this morning to AU. He's a top target for UGA & MSST as well

4-star DB Cam'Ron Kelly commits to Auburn (247)
quote:

Auburn has been on a serious recruiting roll of late and things only got better Wednesday when the Tigers landed one of the top recruits in the mid-Atlantic.

Four-star defensive back Cam'Ron Kelly of Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith has committed to Auburn over programs such as Oklahoma, Penn State and Virginia Tech. He made his announcement via Twitter.

The 6-feet-1, 190-pound Kelly is the No. 13 athlete and No. 177 overall recruit nationally in the industry generated 247Sports Composite. Kelly said in a recent interview the Tigers want him at cornerback. That said, he has the body and is versatile enough to play just about anywhere in the secondary.

For Auburn, he becomes the third 2019 commitment in the past seven days. Defensive end Colby Wooden and cornerback Zion Puckett both committed to the Tigers late last week.

Kelly will be a mid-year enrollee.

Kelly, a former Virginia Tech commit, visited Auburn for the first time in late July. He plans to return this fall for an official visit.

“It’s a very special place," Kelly said. " love the coaches. I love everything about it. ... if you want to come win a Jim Thorpe Award, this is the place to be. You go to the ACC and you can have the same stats as a dude from Auburn and you’re up in the running against an SEC West team, you already know where the award is going.”

Cornerbacks coach Marcus Woodson is Kelly's primary recruiter.

Kelly is commitment No. 16 for the Tigers, who moved up three spots to No. 8 in the 247Sports recruiting team rankings with his pledge. This is the highest Auburn has been ranked during the 2019 recruiting cycle and the Tigers still have approximately seven or eight spots left to fill.

For Auburn, Kelly becomes the fourth commitment who could play in the secondary. He joins Puckett and Jaylin Simpson, both 4-star corners, along with 4-star athlete Jashawn Sheffield, in the class.

Here’s a look at where things stand with the 2019 class …

-Quarterback: With 4-star recruit Bo Nix of Pinson Valley (Ala.) on board, the Tigers probably are done at this position.

-Running back: Auburn has none committed and could take one or two. Noah Cain of Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy is believed to be the top target. The Tigers are a contender, along with LSU and Texas. He plans to officially visit Auburn in the fall.

-Tight end: With two on board -- Luke Deal and Tyler Fromm -- the Tigers are done.

-Receiver: With George Pickens and Ja'Varrius Johnson committed, Auburn still could add one or two more receivers to the class but could stick with just those two.

-Offensive line: Auburn has Keiondre Jones, Justin Osborne and Jakai Clark committed, leaving one or two spots to fill.

-Defensive line: Wooden, Jaren Handy and Jamond Gordon are the three commits. The Tigers could add two or three more linemen. Defensive tackle LeDarrius Cox, a Tennessee commit from Mobile (Ala.), and buck linebacker/end Derick Hall of Mississippi might be the two closest to joining the class.

-Linebacker: With 5-star Owen Pappoe in the class, the Tigers would like to add two more backers.

-Defensive back: Auburn has three committed and could add another one to the class.

-Athlete: Jashawn Sheffield could end up at receiver or defensive back.
