Then a question for you Elliotor,

Hall or Wooden, you have to chose, who do you take for buck?

By the way I see what you mean with 3 bucks already, one take would work fine if they are looking at both for the same position.

Hey Paw have you seen any recent class projections? I saw a interview with Malzahn where he said he believes that everything is coming together for this to be his best recruiting class at Auburn

Well I'm not a scout so I'm not sure I have a good feel. I will say these things though. Hall looks like he has been used as a true LB in high school.Didn't see much in his film on rushing the passer which is one of the Buck's biggest jobs. Since I don't have an eye for this stuff I tend to trust the commitable offers whenever possible. AU & Clemson have 2 of the best DL units in football. Both are hard after Wooden. A couple more things in Wooden's favor is i trust Archer's competition more than Gulfport's. Also it has been easier for us to get kids from Georgia than Mississippi. So if I had to guess I'd say Wooden even though I know others on here prefer Hall.

Not Paw but below is the latest one from Keith. It was done a bit over 2 weeks ago & he typically does them the 1st of the month.

I have to agree here. Archer plays other Power 5 players every week. And half the starters on each team will play at the next level.

That doesn’t mean Hall isn’t the better long term projection. But if I HAD TO CHOOSE NOW, Wooden would be the guy.

Of course, if I had to pick one other MS kid, it would be Pickering, and not even close. He is the epitome of what Garner likes.

Plays the run like D. Russell, splits double teams, and swats passes like Dikembe Mutombo.

Who's even left for us to target at OT? A five star from Michigan (good luck with that) and guys trending or committed elsewhere?

And we continue getting our asses kicked in OL recruiting. The defense better be loaded, cause the offense is going to have a lot of Clempson 2017 type games.

Someone posted a blurb from a Mississippi guy who said that some talent evaluators feel that he, Gordon, is the best DL in the state. He had 18 sacks last season.

Ya it ain't a pretty picture honestly but right now seems top targets continue to be

5* Devontae Dobbs --> Will post more here in a bit but sounds like AU is a factor but hard to believe we get a 5* from MI
5* Wanya Morris --> Seems pretty locked in with UT, best chance is for something to go down during season. He's taken secret visits to AU before without anyone knowing so maybe they can get him on campus again under the radar...
4* Xavier Truss --> Committed to UGA out of the blue. PSU folks are shocked & even UGA guys seemed surprise. We will see if he still takes an OV to AU during the season
4* Warren McClendon --> AU trying to be a factor but probably lands at SCAR (family coaches there) or UGA
4* Darius Thomas --> I think he might end up AU's best chance of a top a ranked OT. UGA/ARK very involved
3* Justin Osborne --> OV'd this past weekend, did not do interviews but KN says AU likes where they sit

Would not be surprised to see JUCO names pop up later in the cycle. I think getting Thomas on an OV has to be priority #1 right now for AU. Can't let UGA take him & Truss

decided to peruse the Ole Miss 247 board for topics on Jaren Handy and found this nugget on there:

He will sign with auburn. I’m friends with a coaching staff member at Meridian, and he said once Gordon got the auburn offer his mind was pretty much made up from that point.

KN says the 3 big things Dobbs told them after OV was that AU is a factor, he plans to return for the LSU game & his dad has really clicked with Grimes. Says he feels comfortable at AU & that he talks to Grimes/Gus almost every day. HIs dad really likes Grimes. Dobbs said the big thing that stood out on visit was the "manhood presentation" where AU talked about greatness & 6 steps it takes to be great. Wanogho was his player host. Dobbs will take an OV to SCAR this weekend then save the remaining OVs for season. Will commit after taking OVs

Returning for an unofficial during the season would be huge for AU. If he does that then I will firmly believe we got a real shot. For now, just hard to see us plucking him away from Michigan State or Ohio State

Hope that guy is right. Handy tweeted late last night plans to commit soon. Lines up well with note on Gordon

If we get Handy soon that's gonna put some real pressure on Charles Moore in a good way

E linked it above but some things have changed since then namely Adrian Medley & Hunter Rayburn committing elsewhere & Zion Puckett being considered a DB target & AU emerging as top team for Jalen Curry. Assuming we take 24 (could be 23 but won't be 25 with Handy-Holly probably going on scholarship after 2018 season) here's what I think "best class" would be for Gus this cycle

QB - Bo Nix
RB - Noah Cain (Tye Edwards is the next guy up if we miss)
WR - George Pickens, Jalen Curry, Ja'Varrius Johnson
TE - Luke Deal, Tyler Fromm
OT - No freaking idea so let's just say Darius Thomas, Justin Osborne
OG - Keiondre Jones
C - Jakai Clark
DL - Justin Eboigbe, Jaren Handy, Jamond Gordon, Colby Wooden
Buck - Derick Hall
LB - Owen Pappoe, Trezman Marshall, Kalen Deloach (could also see Ge'Mon Eaford here)
CB - Andrew Booth, Jaylin Simpson, Cordale Flott
S - Jashawn Sheffield, Zion Puckett

I didn't include Charles Moore or William Putnam because couldn't figure out how to make numbers work. Also I don't have any clue who the other 2 LBs are in this class so I went with Keith's picks tho like I said I could see Eaford landing in class over Marshall or Deloach (namely because not confident they end up picking AU). I could see AU only taking 2 LBs because Hall & 2018 signee Jibunor have skillset to also play LB if needed & AU is starting to fill up at Buck.

That class above would give AU a score of 291.38 which would be a top 5 class

Edit: Meant realistic best class. I probably could have added Jadon Haselwood or Wanya Morris but I don't see either flipping to AU right now

So some big news came out this weekend too in that 4* DL Nathan Pickering is taking an OV to AU this weekend. He's probably the best DL of that MS crew & AU seemed to have faded in that race so fact he's coming on an OV is huge. We will see if AU can make a move

Bad news tho is 5* LB Nakobe Dean is no longer planning to take an OV to AU this weekend. Claims he still will take an OV at some point but considering we can never get this kid on campus I am skeptical

Also KN says that good chance 4* RB Marcus Major out of Oklahoma is going to OV this weekend. Very interesting....

Also I think I said this before but Mark-Antony Richards couldn't make it this past weekend but plans to visit this weekend instead

FWIW found that nugget & they are talking he's talking about Gordon not Handy in that post

However, Handy & Gordon are apparently buddies so could prove true anyway

Biggest takeaways from Auburn’s successful recruiting weekend (SECCountry)
quote:

Success of Auburn’s recruiting weekend

Typically, each note within these notebooks tackles separate topics, generally focused on specific prospects.

This “note” will take a slightly bigger picture approach to the weekend.

The Tigers had a 7-on-7 camp on Thursday that included several top commits and targets, as well as several other highly rated national prospects. Then Auburn held a Saturday camp, landed a non-camp commitment and hosted several weekend visitors, including two official visits.

Let’s start from the top.

Mohamoud Diabate from Auburn High (Ala.) finally picked up an offer from the hometown team. He already held offers from Alabama, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Tennessee and many others. The Tigers have slow-played Diabate throughout the process, so it’s not a guarantee Auburn will become a leading contender for the local standout. What’s most interesting: Auburn sees Diabate as a Sam linebacker, which differs from the outside linebacker/pass rusher position most other schools are recruiting Diabate to play.

Jamond Gordon committed to Auburn coaches on Friday. He filmed a nicely created commitment video starring himself and Bo Jackson’s statue and released it on Saturday. Gordon isn’t the most highly rated prospect in Mississippi, but he’s one that Auburn defensive line coach Rodney Garner worked tirelessly to flip from Ole Miss. It paid off. Now the question remains: Will it be enough to sway other prospects from Mississippi? The Tigers shouldn’t be done in that state this cycle.

Devontae Dobbs and Justin Osborne — two of Auburn’s top tackle targets — were on their official visits over the weekend. Dobbs has been at Auburn three times in the last three years and would like to return during the football season, if possible. If Dobbs makes that trip, watch closely because it’ll be an unofficial trip for the 5-star prospect from Michigan. Auburn would have to mean a lot to Dobbs for him to make that trip during the season. As for Osborne, Auburn will have a lot of work to do to flip him from TCU, but one source familiar with the situation believes the Tigers are the team most likely to flip Osborne from the Horned Frogs.

The two unofficial visits worth watching over the weekend: Xavier Truss and Curtis Fann.

Truss has been to Auburn twice this year, but he committed to Georgia on Sunday after his Auburn visit.

Fann has planned to be at Auburn a few times this spring. The Tigers were thrilled he finally made it. Fann’s relationships with Garner and defensive coordinator Kevin Steele make the Tigers a real factor against other programs such as South Carolina and Florida State.

REALLY hope we don't take Fann. Again, I trust Garner but with guys like Handy, Eboigbe, Wooden, Moore & Pickering out there, I would be kinda disappointed if we landed Fann. He's a good prospect but I like those other guys more. Personally I think Fann ends up at SCAR

Mississippi DL commits to Auburn (Rivals)
quote:

AUBURN | One of Mississippi’s top recruits has committed to Auburn.

Meridian defensive lineman Jamond Gordon, who previously was committed to Ole Miss, announced Saturday his plans to sign with Auburn.

"I just felt like it was time," Gordon said of his commitment.

Gordon informed Auburn coach Gus Malzahn of his decision during an unofficial visit on Friday. Gordon’s visit to Auburn was his third of the spring. His previous visit came two weeks ago for Big Cat.

Gordon's relationships with Auburn defensive line coach Rodney Garner and area recruiter Marcus Woodson played big roles in his decision.

So did the opportunity for early playing time.

"I really love Coach (Garner),” Gordon said. "Coach G said they have a lot of d-linemen leaving and that’s real important because I’m looking for a place that I can come in and play as a freshman and not redshirt.”

Gordon is Auburn’s 10th commitment in the 2019 class and first defensive lineman.

Rivals ranks Gordon, who stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 270 pounds, the No. 14 overall recruit in Mississippi and No. 5 strongside defensive end.
