-Three-star defensive end Jamond Gordon, Meridian (Miss.): Quietly, Auburn has become a contender for the Ole Miss commit. He visited Auburn earlier this year and plans to return June 2. If anyone can give the Rebels a run, it’s Auburn, he told Auburn Undercover two weeks ago. Gordon lives three hours from Oxford and three and half to Auburn — so distance doesn’t really put the Tigers at a disadvantage. Landing kids from Mississippi can be hard. Flipping them even harder. But Meridian sits right on the boarder with Alabama, and that program has sent players to multiple SEC schools.

-Three-star offensive tackle Justin Osborne, Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy: Auburn offered the 6-feet-4, 275-pound Osborne in April and visited his school twice this spring. He committed to TCU in February and is rated second highest among all Horned Frog commits. He’s the No. 38 offensive tackle in the 247Sports Composite. Not a lot is known at this time — other than that Auburn appears to be seriously interested. We’ll know more about his recruitment, and his interest level in Auburn, should he visit the Tigers. Given his size, it seems he could play tackle or guard at the next level.

JB loves him some 6'4" OTs

Edit: maybe I should clarify the question. Wouldn’t it be smarter to move the date to where it doesn’t conflict with the elite 11 finals?
There aren't many options. The coaches are out doing evaluations through the end of May & the rest of the weekends in June are going to be camps the coaches are running. The whole month of July is a dead period now. The new recruiting calendar this year has really compressed things.

If we happen to pull Charles Moore, Jaren Handy, Eboigbe, and Hall (Buck), would we say that re-stocks the cupboard for the upcoming DL exodus of Auburn DL to the NFL?
KK, who do you like better as a Buck target? Hall or Colby Wooden? Per Keith AU is recruiting Wooden as a Buck also. Not sure the staff sees him as a regular DE. I was impressed w/ Wooden's highlights.

I see Wooden as a hand-in-the-dirt DE more in the Davidson role, in college. I think Hall is a true stand up Buck LB.

Definitely think he's a take. AU's been recruiting him hard for awhile.

Highlights

Amateur scouting report....
- Good frame
- Could play SDE or DT
- Not necessarily a freak athlete but explosive at the snap
- High effort guy, doesn't give up on plays
- Garner will grill him on pad level (ala Alec Jackson)
- 3* is probably right rating tho I think he will end up rated closer to a 4*

I like Handy, Moore, Eboigbe, Pickering & Wooden more but not against taking him. Getting one MS boy on board might help sway some of those other guys. Will be at BCW

Who are some early expected visitors at Auburn for Big Cat Weekend? (SECCountry)
quote:

Sam brings up the question many people have been asking me — on Twitter and off it.

Who will be at Auburn’s Big Cat Weekend?

As he points out, it’s a little early to know for certain. Big Cat Weekend is two Saturdays away, so the list is forming, but it’s neither finalized nor complete. Many prospects who have been invited are weighing that option with a few other potential college visits the same weekend. For instance, 5-star linebacker Nakobe Dean wanted to go to Big Cat Weekend, but he’d already made a prior arrangement to be at Mississippi State.

By the time the 10th-annual Big Cat Weekend list finalizes, it probably will be one of the best lineups yet. Prospects such as Andrew Booth, Tyrique Stevenson and Devin Bush all have told me in the past they want to make it, but since they haven’t set it in stone yet, I’m not placing them on this list.

Here are a few prospects who have confirmed to me in the last few days they plan to be in attendance:

4-star running back Noah Cain
4-star defensive lineman Jaren Handy
4-star linebacker Donte Starks
4-star defensive lineman Justin Eboigbe
4-star athlete Derrian Brown
4-star wide receiver George Pickens
5-star linebacker Owen Pappoe
3-star cornerback Cordale Flott
3-star offensive lineman Jakai Clark
3-star tight end Tyler Fromm

The last five on that list are commits. Quarterback commit Bo Nix won’t be there because of a conflict with the Elite 11 competition. Jaylin Simpson won’t be there either, but the rest of the 2019 class so far will attend.

Outside of that, the first five on that list are all key prospects — as one would expect from a Big Cat Weekend.

I wrote in detail about Cain in the Monday notebook. It’s the third trip a member of the Cain family will make so far this year.

Handy called the Tigers his leader after his most recent trip. The Tigers might be in the team-to-beat category, but Alabama and Ole Miss are also considered serious threats.

Starks is another out-of-state linebacker who has developed a strong relationship with linebackers coach Travis Williams. Could the Tigers pull off another linebacker surprise similar to Pappoe? Starks might be the most likely candidate, if that were to happen.

Eboigbe and Brown are both prospects from Georgia who have visited this spring and have strong relationships with Auburn coaches.

Reminder: Keep an eye out for a much more thorough list as the big weekend approaches.

2 key prospects will visit Auburn in June after Big Cat Weekend (SECCountry)
quote:

2 key prospects will make June recruiting visits

In my search for expected Big Cat Weekend attendees, two 4-star prospects who won’t attend the June 2 recruiting event provided noteworthy updates.

Let’s start with South Florida athlete Mark-Antony Richards.

The nation’s No. 81 overall prospect, according to the 247Sports composite, has been recruited heavily by Miami, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama and others. He’s listed as an athlete, which in his case could mean running back, wide receiver or defensive back. In the case of many listed athletes, it’s often known which position the player will end up playing at the next level.

There isn’t as much certainty with Richards.

Until this spring, Auburn had recruited him primarily as a defensive back. After coaches went to see him play recently, the Tigers now like Richards at running back — though they like him so much they’d take him at whatever position he wanted to play.

Auburn’s interest in Richards as a running back has caught his attention, too. He told SEC Country that, while he won’t be at Big Cat Weekend, he will visit Auburn on June 16 instead.

That will be at least Richards’ third known trip to the Plains as a recruit. He visited Auburn with his brother, Miami wide receiver Ahmmon Richards, when Ahmmon was being recruited.

“It’s beautiful. It’s really nice here. It’s peaceful. I talked to the coaching staff. They told me really good things about what I wanted to know,” Richards said after his last visit. “I just want to see them be successful really. Success is everything. Once again, it was really what I expected, the atmosphere around the place. It was really nice here.”

Richards isn’t the only highly rated recruit who won’t be at Big Cat Weekend but plans to be on the Plains shortly thereafter.

The No. 101 prospect in the nation, 4-star tackle Xavier Truss from Warwick, R.I., is a hot commodity. Truss has received heavy interest from Penn State, Clemson, Auburn, Georgia, Alabama and others. He took a southeast tour earlier this year that helped him get a feel for the last four schools on that list.

When he left that trip, he had this to say about the schools that stood out.

“Auburn probably stood out the most to me out of the Southern schools because I had no idea going into Auburn what to think,” Truss told SEC Country. “I had already been to Penn State and had a feel for them, but out of the schools I had no experience with, Auburn took the cake.”

Since then, the big question has been: Will Truss return?

He won’t be at Big Cat Weekend, but Truss told SEC Country he plans to be back in June, as well. There isn’t a specific date set in place, but Truss said he’d be surprised if in a month’s time he hadn’t already been back at Auburn for his second spring visit.

Big news if Truss makes a return visit too this summer. Crazy we might actually have a chance at 2 top 100 OL from Michigan & Rhode Island

Louisiana linebacker considers altering plans

Donte Starks had a commitment date in mind for a while. July 8, his birthday, was the day the Louisiana linebacker planned to announce his college decision.

According to SEC Country’s reporter Sam Spiegelman, that date is much more flexible than it once was.

Starks told Spiegelman the potential timeframe for his decision varies. The 4-star prospect could make an announcement prior to his senior season, or he could elect to wait until much longer than that. Starks said he’d even consider holding out all the way to the Under Armour All-America Game in January and commit there, much like wide receiver Anthony Schwartz did earlier this year.

While many see LSU as an insurmountable competitor for Starks, this is yet another example of Auburn linebackers coach Travis Williams connecting with linebackers and giving the Tigers a puncher’s chance.

“Auburn is looking for a linebacker to come in and play immediately for the Class of 2019. They’ll need depth,” Starks told SEC Country. “I went up there for their junior day, and Coach Travis Williams showed me and my family a real good time.”

If he makes trip for BCW watch out.... Think he's gonna be a tough pull but not counting T-WILL out at this point

KN had a quick update on some DBs last night. Apparently 3* CB Warren Burrell is expected to visit AU Friday. KN isn't sure where Burrell is on AU's board but says Tigers like him. He did not include AU in his top 7 last week. Saturday, 3* S Jammie Robinson is expected to visit. His stock is soaring & KN says despite his size he's arguably one of the best 4-5 players in GA. SCAR has been the longtime favorite but UGA is making a serious push. AU is also a factor as he's visited many times before when Big Cat was being recruited. AU wants at least 1 more CB & could take 2 safeties

Robinson is a perfect fit at nickel

According to KN there might be a 5th name to track at RB along with 4* Noah Cain, 4* John Emery, 4* Mark Antony-Richards & 4* Derrian Brown. It's another Grayson kid, 4* Ronald Thompkins. He plays all over the place for Grayson where he averaged 7 yards a carry last season & 20 yards per reception. LSU, MSST & PSU are considered some of his top schools. Apparently AU reached out to Grayson staff Tuesday & now he's expected to visit tomorrow. KN says this doesn't mean they don't feel good about other targets but more making sure they evaluating all their options especially guys close to home

FWIW I like Thompkins more than Brown. Don't think he would take Cain, Emery or Richards spot. Also it's clear AU has a really good relationship with Grayson right now which could prove huge in the future (could say it's already proven huge with Pappoe but just meant in future recruiting classes as well)
