2 commits Auburn need not worry about for now despite heavy interest from SEC rivals (SECCountry)
quote:

Andy Boykin picks up big offer from Auburn rival

Andy Boykin was the first piece in Auburn’s 2020 class. The Tigers hope that doesn’t change.

Boykin committed to Auburn last fall. The Troup County (Ga.) defensive lineman has become a much more coveted commodity since then. Boykin has used that increased interest from other schools to take visits and build relationships with other coaching staffs. He added another name — a big one — to that list over the weekend.

Boykin picked up an offer from Alabama. Georgia has been the only school causing concern in Auburn’s mind, as it pertains to Boykin, so far. The addition of the Crimson Tide likely will change that.

Boykin is friends with high school teammate King Mwikuta, who is the face of Alabama’s 2019 class. That likely will help Alabama some.

Still, I wouldn’t worry about this one yet.

Here’s what Boykin told me last time I spoke with him — shortly after Kobe Hudson joined him as an Auburn commit.

“I’m just happy he’s going to college, period. I’m even more happy he’s going to college with me,” Boykin said.

At least by that comment, Boykin seems like a commit set on playing for the Tigers.

George Pickens not likely to visit other schools

There has been plenty of concern about George Pickens’ interest in other schools.

The 4-star Hoover (Ala.) wide receiver has risen to stardom this spring after a state championship campaign and strong camp circuit. Georgia, LSU, Alabama, Florida, Florida State and many others have shown serious interest in the wide receiver who committed to Auburn last summer. Pickens has taken a few visits to Athens, Ga., and elsewhere.

My take has always been: Don’t sweat it. He’s enjoying the process.

That belief has slightly more legs after some in-depth conversation between Pickens and Auburn. One source told me, when Pickens was on a visit three weekends ago — the day he joined Jaylin Simpson, Jashawn Sheffield and Bo Nix on a visit — there was some discussion with Pickens about visits he’s taking elsewhere.

Auburn requested that Pickens not focus on other schools or take other recruiting visits. The Tigers see the star wide receiver as a centerpiece of the 2019 class, and they want him fully dedicated to what they’re building. This was communicated to his mother, as well, who joined him on the trip.

Pickens’ mother, the source said, is fully on board with Auburn and agreed with the decision to shut things off with visits elsewhere. Pickens also saw the recruiting shift to be a good idea.

That doesn’t mean other programs will stop trying. But the Tigers feel their wishes are clear, and Pickens agrees.

Local 4-star visits Auburn (Rivals)
quote:

Auburn High four-star recruit Mohamoud Diabate has visited Alabama, Florida State, Florida and LSU, but hadn’t made the cross-town trip to Auburn.

He changed that on Saturday.

“I went by myself and talked to Coach (Kodi) Burns and Coach (Rodney) Garner,” Diabate said. “It was a good visit. I just met with the coaches for about two hours.”

It was Diabate’s first time meeting Garner.

“It was good to finally meet him,” Diabate said. “I’d never met him in person, so we talked and got familiar with each other.”

Diabate, who is ranked the No. 12 weakside defensive end, is being recruited by Auburn to play the buck linebacker position. The Tigers have increased their interest in Diabate, which could pay off with another visit soon. Burns, who recruits locally for Auburn, and Auburn defensive coordinator Kevin Steele both made an evaluation visit in the spring to see Diabate.

“I’ll be back,” Diabate said. “I’m looking at Auburn. I could feel the family atmosphere with the coaches. They are really cool with each other. I could tell that the coaching staff is just like a family.”

Diabate doesn’t have any other visits planned at this time and is no rush to make a commitment.

“I’m going to wait it out,” he said. “I don’t have any favorites right now.”

Rivals ranks Diabate, who stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 215 pounds, No. 244 in the Rivals250 and No. 9 in Alabama.

Making the Case: Ramel Keyton (Rivals)
quote:

The 2019 class is on the clock and several of the nation’s top players have begun to cut their lists in advance of a commitment announcement.

Today, experts from the Rivals.com network examine where four-star wide receiver Ramel Keyton might end up playing college football. The candidates are Auburn, Ole Miss, Penn State and Tennessee. He is set to commit to one of those Wednesday afternoon at 2:45 p.m. EDT.

THE SITUATION

Keyton is a Rivals250 wide receiver out of Marietta (Ga.) who has picked up more than two dozen offers over the last 15 months. He has visited several programs, developed a lot of relationships and is now ready to make a decision. Different programs have led at different times throughout his recruitment, including a couple that did not make the final cut. With a decision coming into focus, we asked our team experts to state the case for their respective programs and let National Recruiting Director Mike Farrell issue a verdict.

AUBURN

“Auburn signed four wide receivers in the 2018 class, one of the largest groups in the country, but the position is still one of need in 2019 – the Tigers lose five wide receivers to graduation over the next two seasons.

"Auburn has a commitment from George Pickens and is looking to add one more receiver, maybe two, but is being selective about whom it chooses. Keyton, however, is one the Tigers would love to take. The four-star recruit has been a top target for Auburn since early in his recruitment and the interest is mutual. Keyton has taken multiple visits to Auburn, as has his mother, and the two have long-standing relationships with the coaches, most notably area recruiter Tim Horton and wide receivers coach Kodi Burns.

"Will it be enough for Auburn? That remains to be seen. Tennessee, the presumed favorite, could be tough to beat. But Keyton and his mother visited Auburn again on May 5, the last visit before his announcement. That’s never a bad thing.” – Jeffrey Lee, AuburnSports.com

OLE MISS

“Ole Miss is set to lose two of their top receivers following this season with A.J. Brown destined for the first round, and DaMarkus Lodge set to be drafted as well. With that being said, there is plenty of early playing time available, and that's before the potential early departure of DK Metcalf, who can leave after next season as well.

"Wide receiver coach Jacob Peeler signed three four-stars last year at the position, and will likely sign between 4-5 receivers in this class, with Keyton potentially being one of them.” – Russell Johnson, RebelGrove.com

PENN STATE

“Keyton has a good relationship with new Penn State assistant Ja’Juan Seider, but he’s never visited Penn State. I’ve seen players commit to schools before without visiting, but it’s rare and usually doesn’t result in a firm commitment. I’d be surprised if he ended up in State College.” – Ryan Snyder, BlueWhiteIllustrated.com

TENNESSEE

“Keyton has liked Tennessee for three years. He was a priority under the previous coaching staff with Butch Jones, and nothing really changed when Jeremy Pruitt took over in December. The Vols have targeted Keyton as their vertical threat for the 2019 class, believing he has the length and speed to get behind defenses. Keyton is high on new wideouts coach David Johnson, but a subtle key in his recruitment has been a pair of Tennessee ties to his high school.

“Vols grad assistant Caleb Cox played at Marietta High (Ga.) and is a holdover from Jones’ staff. He’s been in Keyton’s ear for over the past two seasons and was a familiar face during the coaching transition. Similarly, former Vols wideout Derrick Tinsley, who is on staff at Marietta, has talked up Tennessee to Keyton for three years.

“Overall, the four-star receiver has a comfort level around Tennessee’s program that no other school can match.” – Jesse Simonton, Volquest.com

Didn't know that about former Marietta staffer. That explains why Vols have made such headway at that school. They might be favorites for top 2020 prospects Arik Gilbert & Harrison Bailey too

THE VERDICT

“I’ll go with Tennessee here as he has established a great rapport with the coaching staff. The Vols have sold him well on immediate playing time and contribution and he seems to have been leaning that way for a while.” – Mike Farrell, Rivals.com National Director of Recruiting

are there any JUCO guys in case we do whiff on high school kids again?
Jucos often times don't pop up on a team's fan base radar til after their soph season has started. There are usually some quality ones in each class. Not sure AU is on any of the potential ones that pop up for this class.

KN put up another insider last night. Here's summary

- AU has made a major move with 5* CB Andrew Booth. He's visited AU twice since March & is close with 5* LB Owen Pappoe. He's also growing close with Marcus Woodson & T-WILL. Clemson is probably still team to beat but AU believes this race is very close now. KN has not heard solid confirmation Booth will be at BCW but does know some coaches will watch his spring game Friday

- KN says just because AU hasn't offered 4* LB Mohamoud Diabate doesn't mean they don't like him. In fact, says AU thinks he's very talented. The question is where will he play. AU will continue to evaluate and recruit Diabate

- Two names to know on OL according to KN. 3* OT Adrian Medley & 3* OG Hunter Rayburn. They are teammates in Pensacola. Both hold AU offers & Tigers scouted them in person coming away impressed. Stanford recently offered Rayburn whose stock is on the rise. Not sure when they will visit

- Another name to watch on the OL is TCU commit 3* OT Justin Osborne. AU recently offered & are hoping to get him on campus soon. KN says if he ends up visiting then you know interest is mutual

- Two new LBs to keep an eye on based off T-WILL scouting trips are 4* Osita Ekwonu & 3* Tye Edwards. He's visited both of their schools but right now KN isn't sure how much interest they have in AU & how high they are on AU's board currently

KN also has an article up on 4* LB Kane Patterson this morning. He was recently offered by AU & says his interest in the Tigers is high. Talks to Chip Lindsey about once a week on Sundays. Patterson has yet to talk with T-WILL but hopes to do so soon. AU likes him at MLB. AU has visited his school once this spring & could return soon. Wants to have a top 5 narrowed down by end of summer. Hopes to visit AU again soon. Says that Ohio State, Stanford, LSU, Texas A&M, Auburn, Bama & Tennessee are recruiting him the hardest right now

There's a poster on 247 that knows the family & has been saying for like a year now that if AU pushed they would land Patterson. Dad is AU alum (but did walk on at QB for Bama before that). Wonder if AU is waiting to see that they are for sure going to miss on Donte Starks before pushing for Patterson

AU also offered top 100 DE 4* Khris Bogle yesterday. Miami, Tennessee, Florida State battle early but in an article last week said AU was a team that was communicating with him frequently

Could be wrong but given T-Will hasn't talked to him yet it sound like there may be a group of guys higher on T-Will's board right now.

At 6'4, 207 lbs I would guess he is a Buck or LB target for AU.

That's impression I get as well. My guess is Donte Starks & Nakobe Dean are the top 2 guys at MLB. Will be interesting to see if Starks commits to LSU in July whether AU turns heat up on Patterson
