2018 Rankings Risers in the Southeast Region (Scout)
quote:

TE Glenn Beal - River Ridge (La.) John Curtis Christian

Beal has emerged as the top tight end prospect in Louisiana. His 6-foot-4, 250-pound frame also would allow him to play defensive end or possibly even offensive tackle in college, though most schools appear to want him as a big, well-rounded tight end. Beal holds double-digit offers, including Alabama, Auburn, LSU, and Mississippi. -- Gabe Brooks

WR Ja'Marr Chase Metairie (La.) Archbishop Rummel

Chase has proven among the best wideouts in a loaded 2018 receiver crop in the state of Louisiana. He's built like a safety or outside linebacker with the athleticism to beat defenses over the top. Chase has about 30 offers, including Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, LSU, Ole Miss, TCU, and Tennessee. -- Gabe Brooks

QB Justin Fields - Harrison (La.)

Having it all or checking all the boxes is overused in this industry, but not when the conversation surrounds Justin Fields. He is big, he is strong, well put together, can make all the throws and is among the top athletes among quarterbacks in the country as well. The Penn State commitment, who other schools across America haven't soon slowed down for, commands attention off the field with the way he carries himself as well. Fields is the type of prospect you can build a program around. -- John Garcia

S Joseph Foucha - New Orleans (La.) McDonogh

Foucha makes an impact in all three phases of the game for his high school team. Most likely a safety in college with the ability to move around the secondary, Foucha eats up territory as a back-end cover man, but also thrives as a hitter. He holds a couple of dozen offers, including schools such as Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Michigan, Oklahoma, TCU, Texas A&M, and others. -- Gabe Brooks

WR Terrace Marshall Jr. - Bossier City (La.) Parkway

Marshall has a well-rounded skill set that will draw some comparison to former UnderArmour All-America Game legend A.J. Green. Like Green, Marshall is slated to play in the UA Game in January. He has everything you are looking for to be a top playmaker at the position. Schools from across the country have targeted Marshall, including Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, TCU, Texas, and Texas A&M. -- Greg Powers

WR Justyn Ross - Phenix City (Ala.) Central

This may not be the last time Ross booms up the Scout rankings. Long considered the top prospect in Alabama, it seems the big, strong wide receiver could threaten the top spot at the position in the entire class. Ross has dominated at the only two camp events he's ever attended, the Future 50 in December and The Opening Atlanta over the weekend, where his combination of size, speed, athleticism and continued improvement with his route-running made for a deadly combination to defensive backs. In-state Alabama and Auburn are jockeying for the state's top prospect but Florida, Florida State and others are still very much in the game. -- John Garcia

OLB Channing Tindall - Columbia (S.C.) Spring Valley

Tindall is an athletic specimen who is new to the Scout 300. He was the top overall tester at The Opening Atlanta on Sunday with a 125.25 Nike+ Football Rating. He spends time at defensive end and linebacker on tape, but when standing up he closes on the football in a flash and has the power to finish off plays. He has also been a hot recruit recently picking up offers from schools like LSU, Notre Dame, Florida and Georgia. He has an extremely high upside. -- Greg Powers

KN has update Bo Nix's visit. This was 2nd time Nix has come to see an AU practice this spring. He spent most of his time with Chip Lindsey and Tim Horton but did meet with Malzahn in his office for a bit. His favorite part was sitting in on a QB meeting and watching Lindsey teach the group. When asked about practice NIx said that AU's defense is really, really good but that he also liked some of the things the offense was doing. This wraps up a long week of visits that included stops at Clemson and Alabama. Despite growing up an AU fan, Nix claims he is gonna approach this as a business decision but does say he is very comfortable at AU.

Damnit he said business decision

4-star ATH to visit Tigers on Saturday (247)
quote:

Gerry Bohanon, a 4-star recruit from Earle (Ark.), will visit Auburn on Saturday, he told AuburnUndercover.

Bohanon is listed as a dual-threat quarterback, but at last check the Tigers were recruiting him as an athlete. However, with one quarterback (Tyler Queen) recently leaving the team it's not out of the realm of possibility Auburn may want to take a second quarterback in the class.

The Tigers already have one highly ranked player committed at that position -- Joey Gatewood of Florida.

The 6-feet-4, 215-pound Bohanon is the No. 11 dual-threat quarterback in the 247Sports Composite.

This will not be Bohanon's first trip to Auburn.

"I camped there twice," he told AuburnUndercover.

The offer that wasn't ... and the coach who saved the day (247)
quote:

According to Taurrian Stafford, a 6-feet-4, 320-pound offensive lineman from Miami (Fla.) Central, his interest was piqued Tuesday when a call came into his phone from the 334 area code.

He answered and the person on the other end replied, “Hello my name is Herb Hand, I’m the offensive line coach from Auburn.”

For Stafford, it was a bit stunning.

Although he had started the previous season at Miami (Fla.) Central, he had yet to be rated by 247Sports had only one offer -- from Florida A&M -- to show for his work.

“I went and Googled him,” Stafford said. “I was talking to him and he was like, “I like your film, I like how aggressive you are. I like the way you drive block.’ "

And then, the person on the other end of phone gave him some unexpected news.

“He was like, ‘I would like to offer you a scholarship,’ “ Stafford recalled. “I cried. When I got that offer, it was the high point of my whole life.”

But, there was a problem.

It wasn’t Hand on the other line. And, as Stafford would later learn, there was no offer.

“I got pranked,” Stafford said Thursday evening.

The day after Stafford’s phone call with the person from the 334 area code, his coaches tried to verify the offer. They called a few numbers at Auburn, according to Stafford. They left messages.

Finally, just after lunch, someone from Auburn reached out to Stafford and his coaches.

It was Herb Hand. The real one.

“He called and said, ‘I’m sorry for the incident, but that was not me who called,’” Stafford said.

What Hand did next gave the now-distraught Stafford a boost.

“He was talking and saying, ‘I’m so sorry,’ " Stafford recalled. “But then he said, ‘I do need a center. I’ll come down in the spring to evaluate you.’ He was really cool. He was talking to my coaches. He’s a generous man. I felt relieved. You don’t understand. When I got the offer I cried. And when I found out I didn’t have it, I cried. Everything I had been working for. Everything. Putting in the hard work every day. Coming home at 10. Sometimes at 11. I thought, ‘It’s finally happening.' "

Who made that call to Stafford on Tuesday pretending to be an Auburn assistant?

He doesn’t know. He’s not sure if he wants to. Stafford said he still has the number in his phone. His coaches have it, too.

For now, though, he said he’s focused on impressing colleges, not finding out who pranked him and why.

Is Stafford good enough to play for Auburn? Or any Power 5 program?

Time will tell.

One thing is certain, Stafford is intent on proving to Hand — and everyone else — what he is made of this spring.

“I’m going to show him I can play,” Stafford said. “The whole line. I can be the best center, guard or tackle that he evaluates. I will show him.”

Hope they track down that a-hole but good to see Hand is gonna give em a shot at least

Auburn quarterback target Gerry Bohanon set to make three-day visit this weekend (SECCountry)
quote:

Auburn has its sights on another quarterback in the 2018 recruiting cycle: Gerry Bohanon.

Bohanon, a 6-foot-4 and 215-pound athlete, will arrive at Auburn on Friday for a weekend visit on the Plains. He’ll leave Sunday morning after a multi-day trip to Auburn. It will be his first time on campus since receiving his offer on Jan. 24. He has camped at Auburn on two other occasions prior to the offer.

Bohanon is listed as the No. 11 dual-threat quarterback in the 2018 class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He also holds offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, LSU, Tennessee and others. Some schools are still evaluating Bohanon as an athlete, but he told SEC Country on Thursday evening that Auburn wants him at quarterback.

The Tigers already have one quarterback commit in the 2018 class. Joey Gatewood has been committed to Auburn since December 2015, but Auburn is in search of a second potential quarterback in the 2018 class.

Bohanon had a standout junior season for Earle (Ark.) in 2016. He threw for 2,734 yards and 28 touchdowns. Bohanon added just shy of 1,100 yards rushing with 14 more scores.
