Rivals 3 Stripe Camp Orlando: Top offensive performers (Rivals)
Some more nice praise for Gatewood
I really like Strong. After seeing what Pettway has done in out offense I wouldn't mind adding another 230 lb back
quote:
The Rivals 3 Stripe Camp presented by adidas rolled into Orlando over the weekend, and several of Florida’s best players turned out to compete. With so many stars on hand there were plenty of notable performances. We break down the top offensive players from the event.
quote:
4* OT William Barnes
Recruiting wrap: Barnes is considering several schools, with North Carolina, Miami and Florida emerging as the early favorites to land him.
Performance: Barnes was far and away the best offensive lineman at the event and he impressed from start to finish en route to winning the OL MVP award. It remains to be seen if Barnes is a true left tackle at the next level, but he showed his versatility while winning reps working inside at guard as well. It was the second consecutive year Barnes won the MVP at the Orlando Rivals Camp.
quote:
2020 NR ATH Leonard Manuel
Recruiting wrap: Just a rising sophomore, Manuel already has offers from Florida, Miami and several others.
Performance: The 6-foot-5 wide receiver is still technically a freshman in high school, but you wouldn’t have known it with the way he performed. He was a matchup nightmare for defensive backs all day and while he had a few hiccups that come with his age, it’s clear he’s well on his way to being a special talent. Manuel earned the wide receiver MVP award for his efforts.
quote:
4* QB Joey Gatewood
Recruiting wrap: Gatewood is committed to Auburn.
Performance: Gatewood continues to show more consistency as a passer and just narrowly missed out on winning the MVP award for his position. He has great size and looks the part of a college quarterback and his skill set continues to develop as he taps into his immense potential. Auburn fans are justifiably excited about him as the headliner in the 2018 class.
quote:
3* OT Ed Montilus
Recruiting wrap: North Carolina, Auburn and Miami are among the schools heavily in the mix for Montilus.
Performance: The high school teammate of Barnes made sure it was an all-Apopka race for the MVP award, showing good toughness and technique during one-on-ones. He’s not quite as big as Barnes, but his long arms and strength helped give him the upper hand on most of the defensive linemen he faced.
quote:
3* FB Charles Strong
Recruiting wrap: Strong is committed to Florida State.
Performance: Strong is listed in the Rivals.com database as a fullback, but he considers himself a running back at the next level and he set out to prove that at the event. He is a tough runner and while he doesn’t have a ton of wiggle in open space, his size makes him a load for defenders to bring down. It remains to be seen exactly how he will fit in Florida State’s offense, but he had a nice day.
I really like Strong. After seeing what Pettway has done in out offense I wouldn't mind adding another 230 lb back

Midwest spotlight: Five hot prospects (Rivals)
quote:
NR OT Quinn Carroll
Recent offers: Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Michigan State, USC
On film: College coaches are always looking for those elusive left tackle prospects, and with his height, length and fleet-footedness, Carroll has shown potential to fill that role.
Recruitment: The high point of Carroll’s offer rush really came in the months of January and February, but he is still worth a mention here because no other 2019 prospect in the region has been on as much of an offer tear as Carroll this winter. Between Jan. 14 and Feb. 23, Carroll landed 15 Power Five offers from Florida State, LSU, Ohio State, Tennessee and UCLA. Virginia Tech, where his older brother, Collin, was a long-snapper, also offered during that stretch. His next visits are planned to Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Miami, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech.

Justin Fields is 'locked in' on Penn State (Rivals)
Only mentioning this article to show AU still keeping in contact with Fields. Something would have to happen with Gatewood or a few QBs would have to transfer out before I think AU would go full out but glad to see we are still trying to stay in his ear
quote:
Justin Fields blew up blew up as a football recruit last fall before committing to Penn State December 1. The four-star dual-threat quarterback out of Kennesaw (Ga.) Harrison is a two-sport athlete and he is currently batting lead-off for the Hoyas. When time allows, he gets out to compete at camps and play for Cam Newton's 7v7 team. He is not focused on recruiting right now. One reason, because of baseball, but the other is due to how strong he is committed to the Nittany Lions.
IN HIS OWN WORDS: "I am locked in on Penn State right now," said Fields. "I am in contact with coach [Joe] Moorhead (offensive coordinator) every day. Me, my dad and coach Moorhead have a little group message going on through text messaging, so we are always talking that way.
"We talk about school, classes, baseball, football and more about life than anything. That is honestly what I like most about talking with coach Moorhead; it is not all about football.
"I feel like we are very close and that we have a great relationship. Every time I go up there, he treats me like family and he is a big part of why I am committed to Penn State. He makes me feel like I am already part of the family up there.
"I still feel really good about my commitment to Penn State right now. I am 100-percent committed right now and I plan to stick with Penn State, but you never know what the future holds. I have no plans to change my mind though."
RIVALS REACTION: Auburn, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee are just some of the schools Fields mentioned as ones that continue to recruit him. Tennessee has been texting him. Georgia texted him over the weekend about how he would fit in their offense. Fields is likely going to take visits to a few other schools, but nothing is planned at this time and nothing is in the works. He is focused on baseball right now and he is participating in a few camps and 7v7 events when his schedule allows. He is a bright young man who gets it. He sees the big picture and he is still a strong Penn State commitment. It is going to take a lot to even make him waiver, much less change his mind.
Only mentioning this article to show AU still keeping in contact with Fields. Something would have to happen with Gatewood or a few QBs would have to transfer out before I think AU would go full out but glad to see we are still trying to stay in his ear

Word is Woody is LOST. Maybe he can put it together but right now he appears to be another Tyler Queen. Minus the injuries of course.

Pettway was way more agile at 240lbs in High School.
Strong isn't carrying any bad weight right now at 6'1 230 and barely runs under a 5.0 40. Huge red flag IMO

Didn't know that about his 40 time. Definitely a red flag, I still like his film.
If I could pick from top targets tho it would be Master Teague. He looks like a RB that would thrive in our system

Why Auburn’s biggest rival could be top threat for wide receiver target Jacob Copeland (SECCountry)
quote:
Some Jacob Copeland perspective
Perspective is everything, so here is a little on 4-star wide receiver Jacob Copeland.
Copeland has shown a lot of love to a lot of schools, which has a lot to do with the high number of offers he holds. He hasn’t trimmed down that list much, but the perceived favorites are Florida, Auburn, North Carolina, Miami, Clemson and Alabama.
Copeland has raved about the Plains and wide receivers coach Kodi Burns to the point many Tigers’ insiders view Auburn as the favorite to land him. That’s not necessarily the case. Florida is believed to have the in-state edge and, on top of that, Auburn might not even share the best in-state chance to land Copeland.
SEC Country’s Chris Kirschner spoke with Jacob Copeland at the Nike Opening camp in New Orleans about the Tide, and it appears the offensive coordinator change at Alabama has been welcomed by Copeland.
“It seems like they’re going to change the game up a little bit,” Copeland told SEC Country. “We chopped it up for a while when I was there and he said they want to pass the ball more this year. Usually, Alabama only focuses on one wide receiver, so I didn’t really have much interest in them. After talking to him, Alabama is getting back up there. I want to see what they look like throwing the ball this season.
“That was why I wasn’t really considering Alabama all that much. It didn’t make sense for me because there would always be a receiver who’s there that would be in front of me that they would focus on.”
That shows more than just his Crimson Tide interest. It gives some insight into what Copeland will look for this fall as he narrows in on his decision.
In Auburn’s case, the Tigers’ willingness to spread the ball around will be something Copeland — and other wide receivers — will watch closely. Copeland isn’t in a rush to make a decision, so Auburn will have plenty of time to prove its ability to stretch the ball downfield with new offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey and the potential of a bigger passing game with Jarrett Stidham.
The A-Day game on April 8 will be the first chance for Auburn’s wide receiver targets to see what Auburn’s new passing game can do.
Auburn cracks top 6 for JUCO TE
The Tigers have revved up their tight end efforts since Larry Porter joined the staff.
Here’s a look at the tight ends Auburn is recruiting, fresh off the 2017 class that included two new additions — Salvatore Cannella and John Samuel Shenker.
- Tyneil Hopper
- Mustapha Muhammad
- Josh Whyle
- Brevin Jordan
- Zach Sheffer
- Nic McTear
Those are all high school prospects Auburn will continue pursuing. The Tigers are also, as of early Tuesday morning, in on the top 6 for junior college tight end Dominick Wood-Anderson who plays at Arizona Western College.
Anderson released a top 6 in the early hours that included Auburn, Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee, Oregon and Utah. Anderson will have three years to play two seasons once he decides and arrives at a school.

Three Suitors Slide to the Front for 2018 Three-Star Cornerback Juanyeh Thomas (Scout)
quote:
Three schools, including a pair out of the SEC, are sitting comfortably atop the list for 6-foot-2, 192-pound Juanyeh Thomas, a three-star cornerback at Niceville (Fla.) Senior High.
"My top three are Georgia Tech, Auburn and Florida," Thomas said. "Auburn is a very good school and I'm highly interested in them. I love all of the coaching staff, as well as the environment.
"Florida, I go visit there for junior day this week and will meet all the coaches and everything. Florida has been very interested in me, and they have been showing me a lot of love. I could really see myself at Florida.
"Georgia Tech has been one of my top schools since sophomore year. I waited for their offer, and now that I have an offer, I'm very interested in Georgia Tech and their football program.
"At the end of the day, I could see myself going to either three of these schools."A former teammate and Scout 300 wide receiver, Elijah Stove, also straps up the pads for coach Gus Malzahn and the Tigers, so there is familiarity there.
"I love Auburn," Thomas said. "As soon as I got on campus, I felt the love. Auburn just makes me feel like I'm here at Niceville; it makes me feel like I'm at home."
Thomas, who is still waiting on an offer from coach Jim McElwain and the in-state Gators, goes as far as saying that Georgia Tech is a "dream" offer in his recruitment.
"I love how everything on game day is live at Georgia Tech," Thomas said. "Their coaches are very much excited just like the players.
"Also, I love how they have a really good program for engineering. Georgia Tech was my first dream offer."
Thomas hopes to make his decision during spring ball or before his school's spring game.
Stay tuned to Scout for the latest developments in Thomas' recruitment.

Rivals 3 Stripe Camp Orlando: Top defensive performers (Rivals)
quote:
4* ATH Amari Burney
Recruiting wrap: Florida, Auburn, Florida State and others are all involved in his recruitment.
Performance: Sunday wasn’t Burney’s best day, but his average day is still enough to impress in spurts. The four-star defensive back has gotten bigger in recent months and made plenty of plays during the event. There were lapses, sure, but his size and instructs can’t be denied.

Southeast spotlight: Five hot prospects (Rivals)
quote:
3* DE Andres Fox
Florida State, Georgia and some other schools outside his home state of Alabama have his attention but, like most of the top prospects in Yellowhammer State, Fox's recruitment will likely come down to Alabama and Auburn. He is quiet and does not give too much away when in comes to recruiting, but we know he grew up a fan of the Crimson Tide. With that said, he has a great relationship with the Auburn staff, the Tigers offered first and the school on the Plains will give the Crimson Tide a battle here.

Barnes talks public perception, upcoming Ohio State visit (Rivals)
quote:
Williams Barnes isn’t naming leaders. The Rivals100 offensive lineman knows that won’t stop people from drawing conclusion, though. So while he’ll tell anyone that listens that he isn’t a heavy Florida lean, he knows the perception is out there.
But the chatter that links him to the Gators is not something to which the Apopka (Fla.) High School offensive lineman is deaf. He knows that the outside world has decided UF is his leader.
“That’s what everyone says,” Barnes said with a laugh. “People say a lot of things, though. They don’t really know what’s going on with you. It’s not something that’s official. Florida is just a place that I’m definitely considering – I’m considering it with these other schools.”
Barnes offers up his own words when asked to name the major players in his recruitment. He chooses them carefully. But, as expected, the Gators are heavily involved in his response.
“I don’t really have leaders, but I do talk to Florida and North Carolina a lot,” he said. “Also, Auburn. I talk to them a lot. Florida State and Ohio State talk a lot, too.”
Barnes will take dozens of extra looks around before settling on a college. He has a handful of trips on his agenda including a visit to Ohio State on April 8.
“I talk to the coaching staff a lot, so everything I know about Ohio State, I know from them. Coach Alford. I talk to him a lot. He’s a great coach. I watch the way he coaches the team. I’m excited to meet the offensive line coach.”
IN HIS WORDS: “I don’t know on [a commitment timetable]. I think I’m just going to let this thing ride out until at least my season starts.”
RIVALS REACTION: Barnes has family ties to North Carolina. The Tar Heels and Buckeyes will both be players in his recruitment, but Florida might be tough to edge out here. If the Gators have a poor season this fall, Barnes could slip away. Otherwise, he seems to be a UF lean despite what he suggests.

KN doing a recruiting chat today. Here's some nuggets
- Someone asked for comparisons on Justyn Ross & Jalyn Armour-Davis. KN says Ross reminds him of a slimmer Mike Williams because of size and compared Armour-Davis to Quincy Wilson from Florida
- Asked who next commit might be and said 3* LB Richard Jibunor seems most likely
- KN has heard that Ross, Armour-Davis & Coynis Miller might all commit before senior seasons but not set in stone
- Was asked about how serious a threat FSU is for Armour-Davis. KN says one source says he is AU lean other says battle
- Someone asked about players from Louisiana that could land at AU and KN mentioned NR S Derek Turner who is getting more attention
- Doesn't sound like AU & Myles Sims have been in much contact recently
- KN says 3 guys that could gets bumps in rankings are 3* WR Marquez Ezzard, 3* LB Richard Jibunor & 3* S Kolbi Fuqua
- He was also asked about top OL & DL targets. Says on OL top 2 are probably 4* OT Richard Gouraige & 4* OG Trey Hill. Hill is a longshot but AU has a shot at Gouraige. As for DL 4* DT Coynis Miller & 3* DE Andres Fox. Both are guys AU is battling Bama for

I like Master Teague & Harold Joiner. Not sold on Asa Martin but that could change with strong senior year. Tae Provens is explosive but not sure he is an every down guy. After those three 5* RBs I feel there's a pretty steep drop off this cycle

Auburn 'still recruiting' Bo Jackson's speedy nephew Shedrick (AL.com)
quote:
More than 30 years after Bo Jackson won a Heisman Trophy at Auburn and became an NFL star, his nephew is beginning to make a name for himself on the gridiron.
Hoover wide receiver Shedrick Jackson appears primed to raise his recruiting stock this spring after another successful season with the Bucs.
"One of the things I respect the most about him is there is a little bit of pressure with him being Bo Jackson's nephew," Hoover wide receivers coach Aryvia Holmes told AL.com. "You would think a lot of kids in that position will kind of maybe walk around a little entitled and not necessarily being the guy that works hard. He works extremely hard. He's all A's and B's in the classroom. Very, very, very talented."
Arkansas State, Bowling Green, Memphis, Mississippi State and Troy have all offered scholarships to Jackson. He's visited Auburn multiple times, including a trip earlier this month. As continues to build a relationship with Auburn wide receivers coach Kodi Burns, he's patiently waiting for the Tigers to pull the trigger with an offer.
"(Auburn's) still recruiting and looking at me," Jackson said after Auburn's recent Junior Day. "Coach (Burns) is going to come back in the spring and look at me and he wants me to come to a camp."
How would an offer from Auburn affect Jackson's recruitment?
"It's always great to get an SEC offer," he said. "The SEC's the biggest conference in the league, so it'd be great... I look at every team not the same way, but I give them an equal chance. Get to know the coaches, campus, everything about it."
The 6-foot-2, 200-pounder caught more than 60 passes and eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards as a sophomore and junior at Hoover. He had 43 receptions for 661 yards and three touchdowns last season and had four receptions for the Bucs in the AHSAA Class 7A state championship win over McGill-Toolen in December.
"I think he's just starting to break the surface on some of the stuff he can do on the football field," Holmes said. "Probably the fastest kid on our football team and the strongest kid pound for pound. I haven't coached anybody like him to be honest with you. What he can do -- explosiveness, power -- he's just a different type of receiver. He's a speed, down-the-field guy but you can hand him a jet sweep and he can run through tackles too. He's just a different animal. It's obviously genetic for sure."
Despite his name and the powerhouse football team he plays for, Jackson is still an under-the-radar prospect. 247Sports ranks him as a three-star prospect and the nation's No. 116 wide receiver in the 2018 recruiting cycle.
Bucs head coach Josh Niblett has no doubt Jackson has the ability to be a college football star..
"He's got unbelievable top end speed," Niblett said. "Unbelievably physical. Physique wise, he's just a really really muscular kid and very strong in the weight room, but very flexible. He's not a stiff kid, and he's so explosive. You have to make a decision defensively if you're going to play somebody over the top. It doesn't matter if you're off coverage, he'll run by you.
"I think this spring will be big for him when coaches come through... He'll be a game-changer. I guess people just want to see him a little bit more, and I think the offers will start adding up."

UNC, Auburn, Miami on top for 3-star Florida OL Ed Montilus (Rivals)
quote:
The Latest: Recruiting is still heating up for three-star Florida offensive lineman Ed Montilus, with new schools entering the mix on a regular basis. But at Sunday’s Orlando stop of the Rivals 3-Stripe Camp series presented by adidas, Montilus said three schools are starting to emerge as his early favorites. Rivals.com caught up with Montilus to talk about his favorites as well as his decision timeline.
In His Words: “Right now I’m being recruited a lot by North Carolina, they’re sticking out right now and I’m liking Auburn and Miami right now, too.”
North Carolina: “They’re telling me they really want me to come up there. They want both me and William Barnes. Up there it’s different from other schools, they’re like family not just a team. I went to their junior day last week. It was fun. They made it entertaining, with announcers and stuff like that. It wasn’t just like the usual tour. We got to go to the Duke-North Carolina basketball game and Michael Jordan was there. It was one of the best times of my life, really. It was very cool.”
Auburn: “I’ve been there for a game when they played Alabama St. back in the fall. They treated me great and the town was beautiful. I’ve been talking to Coach Hand, the offensive line coach and he’s one of my favorite coaches right now. He’s not overly aggressive as a recruiter, he’s calm and he just tells me why they want me but he’s not putting a lot of pressure on me.”
Miami: “I’ve been down there a few times. I like the campus, I like the coaches, I like the way they work. I really enjoyed being down there on campus. It’s close to the beach, there’s a lot of people that say in town and on campus even when school is out. It’s an in-state school and that’s something I’m thinking of.”
On a decision: “I’ll probably start thinking about my top schools over this summer and then narrow down for my official visits and take it from there.”
Rivals Reaction: North Carolina made both Montilus and Barnes early priorities and it seems as if that work is paying dividends, especially since both recently traveled to Chapel Hill. The question is can schools closer to home like the Tigers and Canes close the gap on the Heels in coming months?
