My experience with the school of business at Auburn, and I do some work with them now and the past 4 years... is that part of the problem is that Auburn kids never really want to move more than 3 hours away from Auburn.

No doubt, it’s always bothered me that universities and counselors don’t do a better job of guiding students on how to prepare and set themselves up for success after graduation.

At the risk of derailing the recruiting thread, all of the down voters can send me a pm to learn about employment law.

Intriguing pick up in Oladele, will be excited to see how the coaches can develop him.

My guess he won't have any problem rushing the passer but guys like him usually take a while to learn to stop the run

Agreed. Watching his junior highlights on youtube, he's got a lot to learn about leverage and playing with lower pad level. You can see the raw tools tho. Dude looks like an elite edge player should just gotta teach him proper technique

Jibunor/Oladele could give us a fierce pass rush one day from the edge. Both need some time to develop but are oozing with potential. Excited to watch them develop

4-star D-end commits to Auburn (247)
quote:

Auburn has added another important piece to the 2018 recruiting class.

Four-star defensive end Kayode Oladele of Hialeah (Fla.) Champagnat Catholic committed to the Tigers on Sunday during his official visit to the school.

"I just felt like this was the place to be," Oladele said.

The 6-feet-4, 235-pound Oladele is the No. 11 strong-side end nationally in the 247Sports Composite. He is Auburn’s 20th commitment and third commit on the defensive line.

Oladele plans to sign with Auburn on Wednesday, the first day of the new early signing period.

Oladele is the second Nigerian native on the commit list, joining 4-star buck linebacker Richard Jibunor. The Tigers already have two Nigerian-born players on the roster.

Oladele was unable to play in 2017 because of a visa issue. He said that issue has been resolved.

He will enroll at Auburn next summer.

Oladele chose the Tigers over Ole Miss. At one time, he was committed to Florida State.

Auburn has the No. 9 class in the 247Sports recruiting team rankings. The Tigers have an estimated five spots left to fill.

"I committed because it feels like home here," Oladele said. "It feels like family. Every time I’m down here, it’s just really nice."

BREAKING: 4-star Miami DL Kayode Oladele commits to Auburn over Florida State, Ole Miss (SECCountry)
quote:

AUBURN, Ala. — Kayode Oladele committed to Auburn in December after all.

The 4-star defensive lineman from Champagnat Catholic in Miami altered his plans multiple times throughout the month. But, ultimately, it ended with the result many expected.

Oladele chose Auburn over Florida State and Ole Miss to become the 20th commitment in the class.

“I’ve committed to Auburn,” Oladele said. “I committed because it feels like home here. It feels like family. Every time I’m down here, it’s just really nice, you know. The environment is somewhere I can see myself fitting, and the football program is something I can see myself fitting in with, and the school is a place I can see myself getting an education from.”

Oladele originally planned to officially visit the weekend after his Iron Bowl visit. He had to reschedule that because Auburn made it to the SEC Championship Game. Oladele then planned a Dec. 8-10 official visit setting up for a Dec. 12 commitment on his 19th birthday, but that timeline had to be altered for unspecified reasons.

Auburn managed to get Oladele on an official visit the last weekend of the December contact period.

It paid off, even to the surprise of Oladele.

“I didn’t know [I was going to choose Auburn],” Oladele said. “I took a visit a couple weeks ago, and it just feels different this time. I just really like it. I feel like it’s the best decision for me right now.”

Oladele hasn’t finalized whether he’ll sign this week. He won’t be an early enrollee. Oladele will make a decision on Monday or Tuesday whether he will use the early signing period.

With Oladele’s commitment, Auburn remains at No. 9 in the 247Sports composite team rankings for the Class of 2018.

Interesting that Wolk says not sure if he will sign early as KN seems to think he will. My bet is he will as I think whole reason AU accelerated his timeline was to get him on board this week & signed before FSU could make a push with Taggart

Daquan Newkirk ‘still in shock’ his three-year Auburn recruiting journey is finally over (SECCountry)
quote:

Daquan Newkirk and Auburn define the oft-used recruiting term “commitment.”

It’s an overused phrase, really, hence the regularity of the term de-commitment. Newkirk had many moments over the last two years to go in a different direction. Auburn could’ve easily done the same. But the 4-star junior college defensive lineman and the Tigers’ coaching staff stayed true to a word made in the Class of 2016.

It’s finally paying dividends in the Class of 2018.

Newkirk wrapped up his official visit Sunday to bookend a whirlwind junior-college detour. He will move in and participate in bowl practices, starting Monday.

Maybe then the buzz of actually being an Auburn Tiger will wear off.

“It will hit me on Monday. Overwhelming and also happy. I’m still in shock, but it’s all a good feeling,” Newkirk said. “[It’s been] long, very long. As you guys can tell, very long. It’s just good for it to finally be over.”

Newkirk originally joined the Tigers in 2016 as a lesser-known prospect from Orlando, Fla. He was part of a class that included Marlon Davidson, Derrick Brown, Nick Coe, Antwuan Jackson and Paul James III. But Newkirk’s academic status forced a redirection to Mississippi Gulf Coast C. C.

As Newkirk describes, he was just an “under-the-radar kid trying to get offered” during high school and junior college. Auburn was always there, however, and the Tigers never wavered on their commitment to him, which made his choice simple once other programs started showing interest the last few months.

“[Auburn’s commitment was] very important because through my journey a lot of schools turned their back but Auburn didn’t. That’s very special to me,” he said. “As you can tell no one really knows about me. Every time I got offered by a big school I didn’t post it on Twitter. I was just a humble guy throughout my whole process. I didn’t really communicate with a lot of people, I just stuck to myself.”

Now Newkirk wants to come in and compete. He wants to be a part of the nationally-acclaimed defensive line that includes most of his original 2016 class members. Newkirk has the versatile ability to play defensive tackle and defensive end, much like Davidson and Coe.

He’s motivated to crack the rotation immediately with three years of eligibility remaining.

“Definitely. I can get in [the rotation] very soon,” Newkirk said.

Signee 101: Get to know RB Asa Martin (SECCountry)
quote:

Asa Martin made a major splash when he committed to Auburn over Alabama just before the start of his senior season.

The 4-star running back from Decatur, Ala., was the most sought-after running back in the Yellowhammer State, and it came down to the Tigers and the Crimson Tide. Martin was one of the biggest recruiting wins of the 2018 recruiting cycle for Gus Malzahn & Co.

Here’s all you need to know about the feature running back of the 2018 class:

4-star running back Asa Martin

247Sports composite ranking: No. 9 running back, No. 6 prospect in Alabama, No. 195 overall

Hometown: Decatur, Ala.

School: Austin

Height: 5-foot-11

Weight: 200 pounds

Offers: 24, including Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Baylor, LSU, Michigan, Maryland, Oklahoma, Oregon, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, TCU and Wisconsin.

Commitment: Aug. 24, 2017

Early enrollee: Yes

Senior season stats: 2,228 rushing yards, 33 rushing touchdowns, 399 receiving yards, 2 receiving touchdowns and 2 passing touchdowns.

Where he fits at Auburn: The Tigers have a history of churning out 1,000-yard rushers in the Gus Malzahn era. Martin’s role will be to fulfill that legacy. The question now is when his time will come. A lot will be dependent on the upcoming NFL departure decisions from Kamryn Pettway and Kerryon Johnson. Martin likely will find his way into the rotation in some fashion during his freshman campaign. Because of his footwork and patience, Martin is likely to hear a lot of Kerryon Johnson comparisons during his time at Auburn. He won’t shy away from those lofty expectations.

KN also said last night that 3* DT Tramel Walthour might be a backup option at DL if Andres Fox chooses Stanford. Walthour is currently committed to UGA but sounds like he might get processed soon with the "grades" excuse. KN says AU staff has no concerns about his grades.

FWIW I would rather have Tannor but I am wondering if staff really wants another guy that could play in the interior. Tannor is definitely a Buck/DE player while Walthour will probably end up a DT

Alright so AU has 5 spots left now after Oladele's commitment. Chances are high AU is also gonna land Anthony Schwartz on January 4th so let's say they have 4 spots left. This is also a complete guess on my part but I expect AU to take an OL in the early signing period. My bet is AU is waiting to see if Jerome Carvin chooses someone else (I think he will) before taking Jalen Goss's commitment. My guess is staff wants an OT on board before January so they at least have something there for sure before focusing on those bigger names in January. So assuming that's the case here's probably how the final 5 spots breakdown

Carvin/Goss
Schwartz
CB (Benjie Franklin/Roger McCreary/Cam Taylor/CD Daniels)
TE (Luke Ford/Nathan Watson)
Best Player Available (Richard Gouraige/William Barnes/Justyn Ross/Quay Walker/Andres Fox)

I could be wrong but it does really seem like AU wants a TE in this class. Numbers are going to be crazy tight in January. I think it's both a good thing AU will have most of class handled but also a worry that you might not have room for a big time player if say Gouraige, Ross & Walker all wanted on board in the late signing period. Curious to see what happens

Luke Ford told UGA 247 that there's a chance he could sign early. If he does that's probably a bad sign for AU. Same with Channing Tindall. Honestly I think both end up in Athens anyway but AU still has a shot if they wait to February

Me too. Apparently our staff is super high on him. I think he is in the rotation some next season but I think his big year will be 2019 when we lose a ton of dudes off that DL
