KN put up an overview of AU's OT recruiting yesterday. Here's summary

- 3* OT Jerome Carvin was a major MSST lean not that long ago but after AU OV & Mullen leaving for UF, things have changed. Mullen has already visited him and offered him as a Gator. Carvin plans to take an unofficial at some point since he's used up his officials. This one is shaping into an AU/UF battle. He's an EE

- AU feels like they have made a lot of progress on 4* Richard Gouraige who said his OV to AU for Iron Bowl was "eye opneing". Plans to take an OV at some point. Mullen is working hard to keep him & they visited him earlier this week. Big thing to watch is keeping his OL coach Brad Davis. Davis is still on staff but Mullen also has hired his OL coach. This one could get interesting. Clemson will also be a team to watch

- 4* Dylan Wonnum finally made it to AU game Saturday. SCAR remains confident in their chances but AU will get an OV

- Looking like a matter of when not if 4* Badara Traore commits to LSU. He OVd there this past weekend & sounds like AU hasn't really recruited him that hard over the past few weeks

- KN did have a note on 4* Christian Armstrong who is still committed to FSU. He was at the Iron Bowl & claimed he was still committed but that was before the Jimbo news. Probably guy has best chance at stealing over FSU turmoil

- 3* Jalen Goss is an interesting player. Says AU leads & they like him as an athlete. He originally committed to UF as a TE earlier this summer before decommitting. He's grown a bunch & is now 6'7" 265 lbs. Plans to OV in the near future & could also OV to MICH. KN says his stock is on the rise

Boy Id really love to have Gouriage, really, really.

Say Tega takes left tackle, who do we have at backup and who will be right tackle:

Broadarius Hamm, Prince Sammons, Calvin Ashley, Troxell. They all have their issues. Gouriage signs, he may not start but he definitely could get some playing time early.

I have always wanted 1 of those 3 big time FL tackles: Nicholas Petite-Frere, Williams Barnes & Richard Gouraige. It sounds like Barnes might OV but he's probably a longshot. Gouraige doesn't seem thrilled by the Mullen hire but I do think he really likes UF. Problem has been getting him to visit. Good news is he took an unofficial to Iron Bowl so he still has an OV left to take to AU. Would be a hell of a close to land Trey Hill and Gouraige

KN also has update on 4* LB Channing Tindall & his OV to AU. Tindall said the program sold itself especially the current player. Loves AU's DL & said "who wouldn't wanna play behind those bears?". He won't name any leaders of his top group of AU/UGA/UF/SCAR but will just commit when he feels ready. Says T-WILL will visit him Sunday & he's already spoken to him at least twice this week. Next OV will be to UGA tho doesn't have a date yet. Wants to commit sometime in the middle of December

I think UGA is gonna be tough to beat here but gotta think we have put ourselves in a better position now with strong finish. This dude would make this LB class elite

In-state athlete Cam Taylor calls Auburn ‘really close’ to offering as defensive back (SECCountry)
quote:

In-state DB ‘really close’ to picking up rare late offer

At this point in the recruiting cycle, it’s rare to see un-offered prospects visit SEC campuses as high-priority targets.

Consider 3-star prospect Cam Taylor rare.

The elite athlete from Montgomery, Ala., wasn’t just a high-priority at the Iron Bowl. It was that way the night before the game as well, when he had a long phone conversation with defensive coordinator Kevin Steele, who he has a close relationship with. Again at the Iron Bowl, he spent some extra time with Steele, having 1-on-1 conversation on the field before the game.

Their conversation points are clear. Where do things stand with the former Missouri commit receiving an offer?

“Really close [to offering] at the corner position,” Taylor said. “I really want to play defense — safety or corner. So when he said corner, and they may offer, that’s what I like. Man, it was amazing I can say that. The defense was lights out.”

The 6-foot, 205-pound athlete played quarterback at Park Crossing (Ala.) this season, which should give an idea of his innate athleticism. Beyond that, SEC Country has written extensively in the past about Taylor’s injury-plagued journey to high-profile college football prospect.

Those ACL tears stunted his recruitment early on and made programs such as Auburn hesitate to offer. My sources have told me the Tigers really like Taylor as a nickel safety type. The problem is: In this class, spots are tight. There are already four potential safeties committed and a cornerback also committed.

Auburn would like to add one or two more in the secondary. If Taylor receives an offer, there’s a high chance he ends up as one of those two.

“That’s going to change a lot of things in my recruitment, I’ll say that,” Taylor said about a potential offer.

My guess is if AU can't get in on Kelvin Joseph or Saivion Smith this kid gets an offer. We've done well recently finding talented low rated DBs instate (Daniel Thomas & Jordyn Peters)

Athletic OT Jalen Goss calls Auburn his leader

SEC Country wrote earlier in the week about Auburn’s trio of top offensive line targets at the Iron Bowl. Florida commit Richard Gouraige, official visitor Jerome Carvin and campus regular Dylan Wonnum all had positive things to say about Auburn’s role in their respective recruitments following the game. If Auburn only takes one offensive tackle down the stretch, the Tigers would like it to be one of those three.

There is another offensive tackle target who has attended the last two SEC games who also has Auburn high up on his priority list.

That’s Lowndes (Ga.) offensive tackle Jalen Goss. He stands 6-foot-7 and 265 pounds. The weight might concern people, but that’s already up a solid 20 pounds from when he camped at Auburn over the summer and the staff told him they liked him but wanted to see him build his body a little bit.

Auburn’s staff likes the improvements Goss has made, and likewise, he has liked the product the Tigers have put on the field.

“Right now, I’d put Auburn at my top right now. Auburn is my top school,” he said.

The message from Auburn’s coaching staff has been positive.

They like the athleticism he brings as an offensive time. When Goss originally committed to Florida, the Gators liked him as a tight end as much as a offensive tackle, if that gives you any idea of the athleticism he can bring to a football field.

Auburn wants him strictly as an offensive tackle, though a lot of it is dependent on how the rest of the offensive tackle class shakes out.

“They tell me they want me. They like me as an athlete. They like the way I move and everything,” he said. “They said they like the way I move my feet.”

Recruiting question of the day: What effect will Iron Bowl win have on Auburn’s recruiting future? (SECCountry)
quote:

Between the 2018 and 2019 classes, there were more than 60 prospects who rank as a 4-star talent or better on campus for the Iron Bowl.

For those players — many of whom perceive Alabama to be the premier football program in college football — it was an opportunity to see that, from a depth and quality perspective, there are few programs in college football that can match the Crimson Tide. And the Tigers didn’t just match them, they dominated, just as they did two weeks earlier against another No. 1 in Georgia.

To answer the first question succinctly, wins like those can have a program-changing effect when that many high-profile prospects are able to witness something they maybe weren’t expecting.

Here are some notable 4-star or better prospects from the Class of 2018 who attended the game:

Luke Ford
Trey Hill
Saivion Smith
Channing Tindall
Richard Gouraige (Florida commit)
Harold Joiner
Emory Jones (Ohio State commit)
Justyn Ross
Dylan Wonnum

In the 2019 class, here are some of the players who were there whom Auburn would love to have as centerpieces of the next class (though this list isn’t exclusive, by any means).

Owen Pappoe
Clay Webb
Curtis Fann
Ryland Goede
Keiondre Jones
Ramel Keyton
Jaylen McCollough
King Mwikuta
Bo Nix
Mark Richards
Jalen Sims
Jackson Lampley
Kenyon Jackson
Wanya Morris
Shamar Nash

That’s a list that doesn’t even include the 2020 prospects or 3-star prospects who are likely to jump up in the rankings. Needless to say, Auburn couldn’t have asked for a better group to have on campus to witness the 26-14 destruction of Alabama in front of its home fans.

The Jordan-Hare Stadium environment was the main talking point for recruits following the Iron Bowl. For some, it confirmed how they already felt about Auburn. For others, it made them realize the Tigers can’t be dismissed as their recruitments go forward because Auburn is creating a deep, talented roster at every position.

To answer the final question, of specific flip candidates, scan back up to the priority 2018 targets at the game.

There are two players on that list committed to other programs: Gouraige and Jones.

Gouraige admitted how much of an eye-opening experience the game was. He hadn’t visited The Plains since the week before the spring game, so he hadn’t experienced Jordan-Hare with fans in it for the entire calendar year. Looking back on it, he said he wished the Iron Bowl hadn’t been his first game of the season, but now there’s a solid chance Auburn earns an official visit from a top offensive tackle who likely will re-affirm his decision in January or February.

Gouraige’s two primary Florida recruiters, Chris Rumph and Brad Davis, were retained on Dan Mullen’s staff, which should help the Gators here.

Perhaps the most intriguing flip candidate to watch now is Jones, who has been committed to Ohio State since July 2016. He was the last recruit to leave the stadium and recruiting facility after the game, which my sources tell me was because of a 1-on-1 conversation with Gus Malzahn. I had one source tell me that the source couldn’t “see him going to OSU” and that Auburn recruiters consider it a 50-50 battle between Auburn and Alabama.

I still think Ohio State has a firm enough grasp on Jones to rule out the Buckeyes to that extent, but that shows there’s a growing confidence in the Southeast about keeping one of its top quarterbacks in the region.

We've kicked Bama's arse three times so far with a win on the field & landing Miller & Martin. Let's do it two more times stealing away Walker & Jones

Top Auburn commits Asa Martin and Coynis Miller update commitment statuses with Alabama pushing (SECCountry)
quote:

Asa Martin shuts down recruitment, no Alabama official

Asa Martin has been at Auburn more than anyone this fall.

He’s the most active recruiter in the class. Martin plans to enroll early and already has his roommate situation worked out with quarterback commit Joey Gatewood. But as a prospect who chose Auburn over Alabama, there’s a segment of the Tigers fan base that suffers from a little bit of Crimson Tide paranoia.

So when fans hear Martin say what he said following his official visit last weekend, it may give them some pause.

“I’m going to take a Bama official and then I’ll be done,” he said. “You only get to do this once as an athlete, so might as well take your visits.”

As mentioned, Martin already has his roommate dynamic planned and a specific Auburn enrollment date.

But the words “Alabama official visit” make a lot of people in the Auburn world cringe.

Martin soothed those concerns Wednesday. As first reported by John Garcia of 247Sports, Martin told SEC Country of his plans to shut down his recruitment entirely. There will be no more Alabama official visit. In fact, he won’t even entertain those phone calls or in-home visits. He originally planned an official visit to Clemson. That won’t happen either — even though it was reported he already took one, which he didn’t.

Put your Asa Martin concerns to rest. The leader of the class is all Auburn.

“I’m 100 percent to Auburn,” he said. “It was everything I thought it would be. [My official visit] solidified it a bunch.”

Coynis Miller tweets seriousness of his commitment

Coynis Miller is the other prospect in the class who chose Auburn over Alabama despite a major — and continued — Crimson Tide push.

Miller’s father is a huge Alabama fan, so there have been some unsubstantiated rumors about that connection ultimately pushing Miller back toward the Crimson Tide. Even though he won’t sign early — and doesn’t have his Auburn living plans set in stone like Martin — Miller took to Twitter on Wednesday night to clear up any concerns there may have been.

??ajor ??
@junior256_
Im 110% Committed to Auburn University there’s no other place I’ll rather be #WDE
9:05 PM - Nov 29, 2017

That falls in line with what Miller said after the Iron Bowl.

After joking about the win, calling Auburn “just the better team” and texting his Alabama fan father “War Eagle!” during his interview, Miller was asked how much the Crimson Tide are trying to flip him from the Tigers. Miller conceded that an effort was there, but he also made his side of the equation perfectly clear.

There’s a mutual understanding that Miller isn’t going anywhere.

“[Alabama’s] coming at me a little hard, but I think they kind of know I’m not going anywhere,” Miller said.

Really sounds like we have made a move on Richard Gouraige & sounds like he's not thrilled with Mullen hire. 247 has update where he told Corey Bender he doesn't know how he feels about the change. He wants to have in home visits with UF, CLEM, AU & LSU. Also wants to take official visits to AU, CLEM, UNC & OM. He's not sure if he will take an OV to UF

Let's reel em in boys

So looks like 247 Composite has been tweaked. Scout rankings have been removed since 247 bought them so now there's only 247 score. So composite is now made up of 3 sites in 247, Rivals & ESPN. Gonna take some time but I will post how that affects AU's rankings. Big one so far is Zakoby McClain. Looks like he's AU's 2nd highest ranked commit

Some interesting updates from Bama SECCountry

quote:

Alabama got a chance with Luke Ford?

From @DrewChamplin

This question is so well thought out that you’d think it came from a former Alabama recruiting reporter who now is the managing editor of Pumps & Systems Magazine.

I do think Alabama has a chance with 4-star tight end Luke Ford. His decision will likely come down to ‘Bama, Auburn and Georgia. I think Auburn and Georgia have the advantage over Alabama because those two schools have offered a walk-on spot to his brother, Noah, a fullback, who is transferring from Southern Illinois. The Tide have not offered Noah a walk-on opportunity and may never do so. Coach Nick Saban has told the Ford family that the Tide don’t use a fullback. Luke and Noah want to play at the same school.

Dominick Wood-Anderson, a 4-star tight end from Arizona Western College (Yuma, Ariz.), is the team’s top target at the position. I expect Wood-Anderson to commit to the Tide this time around.

I don’t expect him to silently commit to four different schools, tell Nick Saban the day of his commitment that he’ll be choosing the Tide, only for him to decide on a different school a few hours later.

So shaping into another AU/UGA battle for Ford
