Williams is a freaking beast

He's a complete WR. I have no idea why Alabama is not hard after this kid. I think this is one of those times Bama being a national recruiting power could really pay off for us.

Love the size we are recruiting on the outside as well though after watching Hastings and Davis this year, wouldn't hurt to get a quicker dude as well. I would love for us to keep after Lawrence Keys down in LA. With LSU's struggles might be able to pull him out of there. Could fill that shifty WR role down the road

Recruiting insider: Auburn’s dominant win over Mississippi State makes impression (SECCountry)
quote:

AUBURN, Ala. — In front of a bevy of recruiting talent, Auburn put on a show against an SEC foe.

Auburn annihilated Mississippi State on offense and defense, which resulted in numerous positive reactions from multiple recruiting targets. After the game, SEC Country caught up with most of the prospects in attendance to discuss their time on the Plains and their respective recruitments.

Here’s a fully loaded recruiting insider.

4-star linebacker Quay Walker

- Instead of visiting Alabama, Quay Walker attended Auburn’s game against Mississippi State instead, despite that not being the original plan.
- He had a chance to hang out with his high school teammate, Markaviest Bryant, after the game.
- Walker is still committed to Alabama, but the level of that commitment is diminishing. Florida, Georgia and Auburn are all real players for Walker, but if Alabama revs up the pressure, the Crimson Tide will be tough to top in the end.

Just join your buddy already Quay

3-star JUCO cornerback Keith Washington

- Auburn is in the early stages of recruiting this Michigan transfer. The two sides really began communicating this week, but Keith Washington expects that to pick up going forward. Most of his conversations have been with Greg Brown.
- Washington is cousins with Auburn running back Kamryn Pettway.
- He is an early qualifier out of Copiah-Lincoln Community College (Weston, Miss.), so he will enroll in his school of choice in January.
- For now, Washington has offers from West Virginia, Purdue, Toledo and others. Obviously, an Auburn offer would do wonders.

3-star tight end Michael Parker

- The lifelong Alabama fan went so far as to say Auburn is at the top, though he backed off that slightly and said Purdue has made a nice run for him, as well.
- This was Michael Parker’s first game to Auburn as a recruit. He loved the experience. Admittedly, he said it was a “little weird” at first because of his family connection to the Crimson Tide, but the Auburn environment made it pretty easy to get used to.
- Auburn is pushing for a commitment, but the Tigers aren’t pushing “that hard,” Parker said. He’s not in a rush to make a decision, likely waiting to see if Alabama offers.
- If Alabama were to offer, it definitely would make him think, but he wouldn’t go so far as to say it would rule everyone else out. He really likes the relationships he’s built at Auburn.

3-star safety Jamien Sherwood

- Two weeks after visiting Florida, Jamien Sherwood was back in Auburn, which was a very good sign for the Tigers. He came with his mother and one of his high school teammates.
- Sherwood said Florida is recruiting him as if he’s not committed to another school. For now, however, Auburn doesn’t have anything to worry about.
- In fact, Sherwood said that he was looking closely at the Jordan-Hare atmosphere compared to the Swamp. He thought Jordan-Hare was, at least, on par with the Swamp, but that it might’ve even had a little bit more electricity than the Gators’ stadium.
- Sherwood wanted to make it clear his Auburn commitment is “100 percent,” and the Tigers are in the best shape they’ve ever been to secure his commitment on signing day.

3-star tight end Tyneil Hopper

- Tyneil Hopper attended the game with his cousin (a 2019 cornerback target) and his parents. He also went to the Georgia Tech-North Carolina game earlier in the day in Atlanta, since those are two programs he’s considering, too.
- He listed a wide variety of schools who are still in the mix, but Auburn, North -
- Carolina and Louisville are the ones most heavily on his mind right now.
Hopper said Larry Porter wants to keep evaluating him and hopes to get out to a game this fall.

Would rather push for Hopper over Parker at this point

4-star wide receiver Justyn Ross

- Is Auburn “in it” for Justyn Ross? Without hesitation, he said definitely. That might seem obvious, but with Clemson trending, it was worth asking.
- Ross decided to go to Auburn instead of Alabama, mainly because he hadn’t seen Auburn play in person yet this year. With Kodi Burns attending his Friday game, in which he scored 3 touchdowns, Ross felt it made sense to visit the Plains.
- Ross hasn’t declared a public leader and still plans on a National Signing Day decision.
- If Auburn has an advantage, Ross said it’s that his family is very comfortable when they come to the Plains. He also noted his relationship with the entire coaching staff might be stronger at Auburn than anywhere else.

3-star 2019 offensive lineman Carter Colquitt

- For the second time this season, Carter Colquitt, the big 2019 offensive lineman, -
attended an Auburn game. He wanted to get back as soon as possible, and he wants to be back as soon as possible again.
- Colquitt isn’t in a rush to make a decision, but he declared Auburn is leader after the game. There’s still a long way to go, but the Tigers have laid a tough-to-beat foundation here.

3-star 2019 cornerback Jalen Alexander

- Like Colquitt, this was Jalen Alexander’s second visit to Auburn this season. He plans to be on the Plains whenever invited.
- Also like Colquitt, Alexander went so far as to say Auburn leads. But he said his decision is a long way off and he’s going to “explore his options” until the very end.

4-star running back Asa Martin

- Asa Martin’s role on Saturday was to recruit, recruit, recruit.
- He said he’s not worried about Coynis Miller’s decision on Oct. 14, but didn’t specify if that meant because he’s confident in Auburn’s chances, or just that his recruiting focus is on other prospects. Miller and Martin are very, very close friends, so Martin likely will know before anyone.
- Martin instead said his Saturday focus was on Justyn Ross. He said Ross always gives him pretty good vibes, but he knows Clemson will be tough to top.
- Along those lines, Martin and Ross likely will take their official visit to Clemson the same weekend, which should bode well for Auburn more than anything.
- Martin joked that, after he committed, Alabama fans didn’t react poorly. Why? Because they still don’t think it’s over, he said. Well, is it? “Oh yeah,” Martin said, “it’s over.”

4-star wide receiver Matthew Hill

- Matthew Hill picked up two big offers over the course of the last two weeks: Georgia and Clemson. Georgia offered as a wide receiver/athlete. Clemson offered as a safety.
- Auburn doesn’t have much to worry about there, but Hill likely will take his five official visits to Auburn, Clemson, South Carolina, Alabama and either Florida or LSU.

3-star defensive lineman Daquan Newkirk

- First and foremost, Daquan Newkirk is thrilled to be back on a football field playing football. He said it had been far too long, and his energy level on the field is higher than ever. Rodney Garner likely will go see one of his games soon.
- Newkirk is actively trying to recruit two of his junior college teammates — quarterback Torrance Gibson and cornerback Saivion Smith. He said he likes Auburn’s chances with Gibson if the Tigers push for him. As for Smith, it’s “iffy” with Alabama firmly in the mix, as well.
- As for Gibson, who visited for his second straight Auburn game, I like Auburn’s chances if it pushes. He really likes the Tigers and the atmosphere. The big questions: Does Auburn take a second quarterback, and would Gibson be the guy? That remains to be seen. For now, it appears Auburn is staying very patient with Gibson’s recruitment.

Other notes

- Tennessee commit Jamarcus Chatman didn’t make the trip, but Rodney Garner went to his high school game on Friday night. If the Volunteers continue the downward spiral, the Tigers could be in play.
- Montgomery targets JaKorey Hawkins and Tank Jenkins didn’t visit.
- I had a trusted source tell me before the game that Auburn is fully out of it for 5-star quarterback Justin Fields, if that wasn’t becoming obvious already. In fact, apparently the staff hasn’t liked its chances for more than a month.

Not sure how we screwed this up so badly from being darkhorse favorite to "fully out of it"

Especially considering Stidham's numbers being thrown up + StateFromm as a true FR looking good at UGA/depth chart concerns

Ya it seems crazy to me one game would wreck our chances. I get we looked like shite against Clemson but this offense has looked fun as hell for a QB recently. I think heart is going to win out in this one. All his buddies are going to UGA and he's being hailed as hometown hero. Would not be surprised to see him commit soon

Auburn showcases passing game for state’s No. 1 prospect Justyn Ross (SECCountry)
quote:

Justyn Ross more comfortable with Auburn offense

It was fairly obvious on Saturday who the man of the hour was, at least as far as recruiting is concerned.

Justyn Ross chose to attend Auburn’s game vs. Mississippi State rather than return to Alabama or Clemson. That was by design. He had the opportunity to go to both places, but he wanted to check out Auburn since he hadn’t been in the 2017 football season.

Auburn coaches took note.

Wide receivers coach Kodi Burns spent plenty of pregame time with Ross and his family. Before and after the game, Ross had a little bit of 1-on-1 time with coach Gus Malzahn. Ross recognizes he’s a priority.

“[I wanted to come] because I haven’t been to Auburn yet [this season]. I’ve been to Clemson and Alabama. I just wanted to separate them,” Ross said. “I did [talk to Malzahn]. He’s telling me that they’re pretty low at receivers. He’s telling me how their quarterback situation is great right now.”

Auburn showed Ross attention the night before, too.

Burns attended Ross’ high school game. Ross put on a show. He recorded a long touchdown pass and also returned a punt for a score. Ross was very conscious of Burns’ presence at his high school game.

“It’s real cool having them at the games because it shows how important I am to them for them to come down to see me play,” Ross said.

He always loves Auburn when he’s there, but Ross doesn’t hide his concerns at each of his respective schools. At Auburn, Ross worried early on about the Tigers’ passing game with a new offensive coordinator and new quarterback.

On Saturday, Auburn threw for 267 yards and 2 touchdowns with completions to eight different receivers, including the only wide receiver in the last recruiting cycle, Noah Igbinoghene.

The passing game caught Ross’ attention.

“I feel like they played real good. I feel like the defense did its end. Offense played with its receivers a lot tonight,” Ross said. I feel like they showed me a lot. They’re showing me how much they can throw the ball around, get the receivers in action. Just wanting to see what they can do on the offensive side of the ball. Oh yeah, for sure, [they’re showing me what I want to see].”

There is still plenty of time for Auburn, Alabama and Clemson — the group that has emerged as his top 3 — to make their respective recruiting pitches.

Ross still doesn’t plan on deciding until National Signing Day. He has his official visits to take care of. For now, he only knows for certain that he’ll take officials to those three programs, but no dates are set.

But if Auburn has one advantage, it’s how comfortable Ross’ family is on the Plains.

“How my family adapts to it and how good of a relationship they have,” Ross said

2019 offensive lineman names leader

For the second time in three home games, Carter Colquitt visited Auburn.

The 2019 offensive lineman didn’t hide why.

“They’re my top school right now,” Colquitt said. “I just like Auburn. I like it a lot. It feels like home. I like the people here. It’s just a good place to be. I like it a lot. It’s so great. I still love it. It still feels like home.”

Colquitt first saw Auburn for the Georgia Southern game in Week 1. There were some offensive concerns at that point, but no longer.

The Tigers cruised to a 49-10 victory over SEC West foe Mississippi State, and the improved offensive line is a big reason. Colquitt noted the offensive progression.

“I think they played really well. I think they’re starting to click. They’re going to be really good,” Colquitt said. “I feel like the whole team is just clicking better. I don’t know if it’s team bonding. I don’t know if it’s reps in practice. It just looks like they’re just playing smoother.”

Despite being a 2019 offensive lineman, Auburn is showing him plenty of attention.

Colquitt got a chance to talk with Malzahn after the game, which is always a sign of priority.

I talked to Gus after in the locker room. He told me thanks for coming down,” Colquitt said. “I talk to them a good bit. I feel like I’m up high on the list. Hopefully I’m up high on the list.”
