People are still on the Fields train, but I'll be quite content getting Gatewood this year and Nix next. A lot of underestimation of Joey's talent. The only reason he doesn't put up video game numbers is his coach constantly wanting to rotate QBs.

I made the same statement earlier. All reports so far are that Nix is a fantastic QB. Gatewood reminded me of Dax P the other night. Great decision maker. Cartersville is great competition as well.

I am greedy and want all 3
The big thing with Fields is if he goes to UGA then they are going to absolutely clean up instate this year and the next. I also believe he gives them that missing piece and turns them into a very real championship type of team. My only hope would be Chaney wastes his talent. Fields is a lot like Deshaun Watson in my opinion. Whomever gets him will play for a national championship in the next 3 years, he's that good
However, I am also extremely high on Nix. I think he could end up the #1 QB in next year's class as well. I also believe Gatewood has the highest ceiling of any QB in this class, that includes Lawrence and Fields. There just aren't many human beings that are 6'5" 230 lbs and can run like Gatewood. But he's going to need some time to improve as a passer before taking over the offense
Auburn will be just fine if they end up with just Gatewood and Nix. However, losing Fields to UGA gives our other major rival a chance to become a dominant program as well. Gonna be interesting to see how this all shakes out and the ramifications over the next few football seasons

quote:Gus Malzahn and Jimbo Fisher aren't comparable. JF has had way more first round picks.
Everyone claims FSU is the better QB development program, but Gus has as many Heisman and NC winning QBs as Jimbo. He also has a better record of developing DT Qbs.

I like that Prescott comparison, I think that's spot on. Prescott came to Mississippi State an outstanding athlete but needed time and coaching to develop as a passer. I see the same thing with Gatewood. I had my doubts about him being an SEC QB but it's clear after Saturday night the dude can play. He looks better everytime he plays.

UGA has offered Fields's buddy and go to WR Steven Peterson a preferred walk on spot.

Every quarterback needs a trustworthy receiver, and that is something Georgia has figured out in their pursuit of 5-star quarterback Justin Fields.
Fields go-to guy at Harrison HS in Kennesaw, Ga. is Steven Peterson, who spent the weekend alongside Fields in Athens as the duo took a visit to see the Bulldogs. Peterson, per UGASports.com, received some good news during his trip.
“Yeah, I received that [preferred walk-on offer] this past weekend,” Peterson said.
Peterson is a lot better than just a throwaway offer though, as DawgNation.com’s Jeff Sentell described. In just two games, the senior has caught nine passes for 226 yards and four touchdowns.
“Kirby [Smart] asked me a little bit about myself and stuff like that. Then, he said they only had a few preferred walk-on spots but he would love to offer me one. He said that if nothing else really worked out that they would love to be the fallback plan. He compared me to Hunter Renfrow and the things he did at Clemson. He thinks I could be one of those guys if I felt it was where I wanted to go.”
If the duo end up in Athens, Fields will have a target that he is extremely comfortable with. That could spell trouble for SEC defenses.

Behind JW, his claim to fame in the first round is Christian Ponder and EJ Manuel. His rep as a QB whisper is a bit overstated.

Three-Point Stance: Big commits, QBs impress, indispensable players (Rivals)
FWIW I thought he looked good running between the tackles Friday. He's already listed at 200 lbs so he's a guy that could probably carry 215 lbs and not lose his speed but allow him to be more of an every down guy
quote:
2. RB Asa Martin, Auburn – Martin brings not only speed and elusiveness to Auburn but he’s a natural pass catcher as well. Many see him as a 10-15 carry change-of-pace back for the Tigers who will catch four or five passes a game as well and that’s the role I see. He’s dynamic and dangerous in space.

One of the best in Alabama could commit any day (Rivals)
Pretty sure this dude is just waiting on the greenlight from Bama. Not sure AU has a spot for him anymore. Like Jospeh Foucha and Juanyeh Thomas probably missed his chance to jump on board if he wanted too
quote:
Myles Mason could commit any time now.
The 6-foot-2, 185 pound safety out of Trussville (Ala.) Hewitt-Trussville has wanted to commit before, but he hasn't felt ready. Five schools are still in the mix and a decision is nearing for Mason.
"I am pretty close to committing," said Mason. "I am taking it day to day right now. I know it is on my mind, I know I am close and as soon as I feel 100-percent about a school, I will be committing to it.
"Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida State and LSU are the schools I am still considering and it could be any one of them. All five are about the same. No school has really pulled ahead yet. As soon as it does, I will commit.
"I am really working to get to that point."
When asked about the five finalists, many of the answers were about the same. They were centered around the coaches, the trust and how he fits into the program.
Mason likes how those schools have kept it "real" with him and recruited him over time. The facilities caught his attention at Clemson, he mentioned how LSU is 'DBU' and the feeling he has when in Tuscaloosa (Ala.), but all in all, he said about the same things about each school with just different coach's names inserted.
He now is waiting for that moment he feels that school is right for him.
"It is just going to be a feeling that I have one day," said Mason. "I have been praying about it and I hope to wake up one day soon with that feeling about a school.
"I really want to get it over with, so I think it happens soon. I want to focus on school, focus on the season and leave recruiting to the side.
"I could commit tomorrow. I could commit next week. I do not know when it will be, but I feel it will definitely be soon."

Southeast spotlight: Most talented high schools (Rivals)
quote:
There are several programs in the Southeast known for producing elite college prospects on a yearly basis, but which teams are we tracking this fall because of their loaded rosters? Here’s a breakdown of the five schools who are loaded in 2017.

Buford, Ga.
When you win, regardless of what level you play on, you have talent. Buford (Ga.) has won 10 state titles since 2001 and they will be pushing for more in the coming years. Michigan commit Anthony Grant and Tennessee commit Christian Turner lead the way in 2018, but there is a lot more talent to know. In 2019, offensive lineman Harry Miller is a Rivals100 prospect and athlete Derrian Brown is another four-star in that class. Both have over a dozen offers. Lining up beside Miller on the offensive line are Riley Simonds and Carter Colquitt, two high three stars in the 2019 class. If you want to look a little further down the line, there starting quarterback this fall is Aaron McLaughlin. He is a 2021 prospect with national offers already.
Really like Turner. Michigan getting a stud in that kid

Loganville (Ga.) Grayson
Grayson won the state title in 2016 and they lost a lot of talent, but there is still a lot there. The 2019 class is loaded with Owen Pappoe leading the way as the No. 20 prospect in the country. He is uncommitted, but juniors Tru Thompson, Kenyatta Watson, Ronald Thompkins and Wanya Morris are all committed to Florida State. There is more in that class. Kenyon Jackson is committed to LSU, Trente Jones, Jalen Alexander, Kenny Edwards, Jakai Clark and Kevin Harris all have Power Five offers. When talking to seniors, Jaylen Rivers is committed to Northwestern, Ryan Taylor is committed to Arkansas State and Jaquavius Lane is committed to Kansas State. The Rams just defeated a strong Hoover (Ala.) team Friday and they will challenge again for a state title this season.
AU hard after Pappoe, Alexander and Kevin Harris I believe. At one point in time we were in contention for Thompkins & Wanya Morris but then both committed to FSU
Kenyatta Watson's dad is the guy that runs the true 19/20 teams and he's gotten a bit of a reputation as possibly the handler for these Grayson kids. It's not a huge coincidence that his son commits to FSU and plenty of other dudes join him as well. Definitely something to watch

Marietta, Ga.
Marietta is led by Georgia commit Azeez Ojulari and Christian Ford in the 2018 class, then as you look deeper at their roster, they are loaded with top-end underclassmen. Ojulari and Ford both have impressive offer lists, then in 2019, you have wide receiver Ramel Keyton, a Rivals250 talent with Florida and Tennessee on top of his list. When you get to 2020, it is scary how many Power Five prospects they have. Quarterback Harrison Bailey leads the way, then it is guys like defensive end B.J. Ojulari, defensive end Arik Gilbert, wide receiver Taji Johnson, defensive back Rashard Torrence, defensive back Dawson Ellington and athlete Kobe Stewart. All have multiple offers with many projecting as national prospects, if they aren't that already.
I am a big Ramel Keyton fan. Visited recently. Also Arik Gilbert is going to be a monster in the 2020 class

New Orleans (La.) Landry-Walker
Since former rivals L.B. Landry and O.P Walker merged in 2013 the program has become a training ground for some of the best prospects in New Orleans. This year is no different as the team is led by five-star wide receiver Devonta Jason and Rivals100 defensive back Corione Harris, both players who are committed to Kansas. But the depth of talent goes beyond just the top two names, as high three-star defensive end Josh Smith, another Kansas commit, and three-star Southern Miss defensive back commit Curry Benn are also stars on the team. The school also has five two-stars players who project as FBS level talents in 2018 and several talented younger players, including class of 2019 prospects Chad Alexander and Khyron Crump.
Devonta Jason visited back in the spring but doesn't appear he's really on our radar anymore

Memphis (Tenn.) Central
Central is the oldest high school in the city of Memphis and is no stranger to producing quality prospects. This year’s team is loaded with talent, headlined by 2019 four-star wide receiver Shamar Nash and 2019 four-star defensive end Eric Gregory. The talented duo, which both already hold SEC offers, are joined by high three-star defensive end Trevis Hopper, whose offer list includes many of the Southeast’s top programs. But as good as the trio of juniors is, class of 2020 wide receiver Darin Turner might be the best of the bunch. Turner already has several major offers and is likely to be among the nation’s top prospects in his class.
AU has offered all of these guys. I think we might be a player for Nash but it's still early

Simmons' Takeaways: Busy weekend in Alabama, Georgia (Rivals)
quote:
After viewing a game in Alabama on Thursday and three games in Georgia on Friday and Saturday, I was able to watch many high school stars. Some are considered to be strong commitments, some are committed but looking, some are still uncommitted.
Here are six of my takeaways from the weekend.

1. AUBURN COMMIT SHINES
There have been plenty of questions surrounding Auburn commit Joey Gatewood, but based on what he showed Saturday on the road at Cartersville (Ga.), he could be a star on the Plains. There has never been questions about Gatewood’s athleticism, but instead about his passing and whether he could throw accurately on the next level. He is still raw with his mechanics, but he threw the ball a lot better in this game than he has in the past. Gatewood splits time with Riley Smith, but he finished 10-of-13 passing for 184 yards and one touchdown. He rushed for 123 yards on 18 carries with two touchdowns. He ran through defenders, showing explosion, and proved that he is just different. The takeaway here is that he could be on his way as a quarterback, and if he continues to develop as a passer, he could be scary for the Tigers.
I wouldn't be shocked to see Gatewood rise once again in the ratings. At one point in time he was in the top 25 on some sites

2. LOUD ON THE FIELD, QUIET OFF OF IT
Adam Anderson made a lot of noise in a huge game against Kennesaw (Ga.) Harrison on Friday night. He had three sacks, caused a fumble that was scooped up and returned for a touchdown by a teammate, and he was simply all over the field. He faced five-star quarterback Justin Fields, who has speed, but Anderson showed he could run with him. For four quarters, Anderson was dominant and he even played above his No. 74 ranking in the country.
But after the game, it was hard to get much out of him. He said a lot of the same stuff whether he was asked about Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida State or Georgia. He is not tipping his hand on where he stands with recruiting right now. Anderson said, “I could commit tomorrow or I could wait for a while. I am not sure what I am going to do yet.”
This dude would be the perfect Buck but I think we are 5th right now

4. FIELDS CAN DO IT ALL
Yes, Justin Fields and Kennesaw (Ga.) Harrison lost to defending state champion Rome (Ga.) 33-21 Friday night, but Fields still did what he does — make plays. Fields finished with 238 yards passing and two touchdowns while adding 66 yards rushing and one score. His arm has matured so much over the past year. He can throw a laser on one play, then show great touch. He threw a ball more than 40 yards on the run to his right for a touchdown, but it was called back due to holding. He trucked a defender, he hurdled a defender, he reversed field when pressured and he played under control despite the constant pressure all night.
Auburn, Florida State and Georgia are fighting for the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback in the country, and he continues to show why week in and week out. He is a special talent, but what takes him to another level is how he plays the game, how he carried himself, his sportsmanship and just who he is with or without the pads.
