Would be a big move for Atlanta. Drummond is a FA the Hawks were targeting, and would only be giving up an expired contract and a heavily protected first-round pick to basically audition for his services and give them "super max" bird rights this coming offseason.

Trae Young with a front-court of Collins and Drummond is a hell of a foundation. If the Hawks could lock Drummond up, they'd be in the driver's seat with another Max contract slot in the vaunted 2021 free agent class.

Trae is about to start in the All-Star game in his second year. I think if he can unlock Drummond and Collins, the flood gates will open.

I'm seeing some push back against this on twitter, but I like it depending on what we have to give up. We're going to have a ton of money this offseason. Might as well lock up some interior defense and rebounding help.

Old school center. Blocks and rebounds. Don’t know if he’s “super max” worthy, though it’d be nice to see how he fits in first.

I love Trae, but

Schlenk has botched this thing, and is going to compound it by trying to dig out of the short term hole he is in. May as well ride out the storm and see what happens. The minute you did the Luka - Trae deal you needed to commit to the longer term rebuild, and it looks like Hawks are abandoning that because it’s uglier than they thought it would be.

Sounds like trea is already getting pissy for the team sucking. If you don’t give your stars what they want, they will go somewhere else. That’s the modern nba unfortunately

I’d be pissy too. They didn’t even sign a backup PG. They thought Evan Turner could do that. The Collins’ suspension and injuries to other guys haven’t helped things. Trae literally has to be on the floor or the team is getting completely steamrolled.

As far as rebuild, our available money is hitting in a bad FA class. Drummond is about the best thing that will be available if we can lock him up. We should still have a spot for another max guy the next year.

So we get some help at PG with Teague. Great trade with really no downside. Crabbe wasn’t giving us anything and Trae will get some relief. This is also a lot better team than the record shows when we have everyone playing.
