Freeman had a good run here but he’s been out a lot the past two years. His history of concussions specifically is a major concern.
Coleman is the more dynamic player. If you can get Coleman for in the ballpark of what Freeman will be making I think you have to make that move.

TD probably learned his lesson on that deal

Yeah...Coleman is a game changer. Freeman is a very good player but just nowhere near as dynamic

And that’s all. He’s replaceable.

He's replaceable talent wise. Just need to make the financials work. It would be tough to sign Coleman to a deal while having the cap hit from Freeman. Hopefully TD can figure out how to get that done.

Yeah that's one where he was doing great and then the ink dried on his contract and injuries started happening. Crappy timing.

Time and time again teams learn the hard way that paying RBs big money to long term deals is a risky proposition.

I give Pittsburgh a ton of credit for not caving to Le'Veon Bell. You absolutely don't extend a RB like that unless he's primarily a pass catcher, and even then, it's a gamble. Keep drafting and recycling every few years or so.

Yep. Trust your talent evaluators.

We've hit the mark big time on both Devonta and Tevin, and all signs point to hit #3 with Ito. Spend a nice 3rd or 4th round pick on a RB every other year or so and profit.

I'm still really surprised that TD panicked and signed Freeman to a deal. I had been impressed lately with their decision making in terms of letting players leave (Dontari Poe for one) and I thought they would for sure roll with Tevin next year.

Is it possible to shop Freeman around and trade him? The only downside to that is I think he has to be a cut to get the financial money back, right?

We can't trade him AND still save salary cap $$$, can we?
I'd trade him for a 3rd and save $$$ but then again, I'd be ok cutting him as long as it saves cash.

There's a pretty cool site called Over the Cap that allows you to tinker with various scenarios and see what the hit on the cap would be.

Right now, the Falcons have $24,617,333 in cap room for 2019. If they simply cut Freeman, he would be a $9 million cap hit instead of a $6.75 million cap hit, and our cap space reduces to $22,367,333.

If we trade Freeman, it would be the same as above.

If we do the post-June 1 cut that I don't totally understand, he would only be a $3million cap hit in 2019 and our cap space would be $28,367,333.

Ah ok, so we only have 2 options then:
1) Keep him and still take the 9mil cap hit
OR
2) Post-June 1 cut him and all we get is 6 mil back in cap.

I wish we could trade him and get something back but honestly, I'll take the 6mil in cap back.

Can't cut or trade Freeman till 2020 or they incur a huge dead cap.

offseason moves #2 and #3....cut Vic and Duke. Vic will save us 12 million on the cap. He is literally a waste of money piece of shite. And Duke, well...he doesn't cost much but you could put my 200 lb arse out there and get the same production.
