So teams are all gonna take on huge debt in real estate and entertainment in hopes of "one day" (10 years down the road or so)being financially viable and being able to compete with big market teams? While at the same time seeing huge increases in revenue but spending more on debt service than we do on payroll or operations?

Don't think I'd be too happy with the deal if I was a season. Ticket holder or a fan.

Not really the scenerio promised to the fans when the new park and the battery, was opened.

However, the Centennial Yards project is going to be amazing.

Putting the Braves there woulda been a disaster.Cobb County is a much better location and closer to their base.

Actually if they were gonna stay in Atlanta, Atlantic Station was the perfect spot.In the heart of the midtown business district and Marta rail line.Instead we got the monstrosity that's Atlantic Station...place is a disaster.

I owned a condo and lived there for two years, wasn't a disaster to me.

What's wrong with Atlantic Station? I don't go there much, but I live only a couple miles away, and it seems fine.

Poorly planned, poorly constructed and the access from the connector was a bad a idea. The restaurant and retail secene sucks. This article says it all[/link

quote:

The ATLofts, Atlantic Station’s 330 plus unit development that initially sold out to young professionals, represented the development’s  initial vision. Keep in mind, this represented more than 600 full time residents. Plagued by delays caused by poor construction, the completion of ATLofts were postponed by nearly a year, and when they were finally complete, the initial buyers who had planned to live in there, had purchased elsewhere, or no longer had the interest to live at Atlantic Station. The vision that excited them to the concept of Atlantic Station was clearly failing to translate.

When the units were ready for closings, Atlantic station already had a bad reputation of crime and cruising.

Was written a while ago but still has some of the same issues.Amazing that with all those great restaurants only 5 mins away in W Midtown that none of them wanted to build or locate at AS. I used to live about 5 mins away and can't think of any neighbors or friends that ever shopped or dined over there.

I will say the single family homes near the GT golf course are very cool but not sure if was part of the JDI plan.

I know they were pretty much giving away those high rise condo's during the crash so I'm assuming ya made some money if you bought at the right time.

Except (as you pointed out) it was written nearly a decade ago in the wake of the Great Recession. Housing prices have since rebounded (including in the high-rise condos), and the shopping mix has gotten much better. Also, new office space was just completed next to Target and a hotel and more office space is currently under construction on the south side of 17th Street.

If I hadn't gotten married last year, I would still be living down there with no problems.

It's actually done really well. Property values have sky-rocketed. I mean black people go there so, I know it scares the suburban out of of your OTP hole, but, it's still growing and taking advantage of it's pre-2008 crash development cycle, has had one of the highest IRRs of almost any Atlanta real estate project.

From a fan standpoint, Battery has been aight. Like that there's stuff to do. From an investment strategy/baseball opps/Cobb County got abused financially standpoint, it's been a disaster. Check the open record P&L for the county. They're constantly in court.

It's on its 3rd owner and it's retail and restaurants aren't doing good... especially restaurants.Any good restaurant
worth a shite ain't opening there.Wonder why they're choosing to open about 3 miles
away over in West Midtown?

Lived about 5 mins away from there and believe me,no one in the neighborhood went there for shopping or leisure.I haven't lived OTP in 25 years.

Alright? It was the the only and best move the Braves coulda made. They were getting hosed by the COA idiots who ran the place and it's off to a far better start than that former EPA cleanup site...still not convinced they got the cleanup done properly and wouldn't trust VCC as far as I could throw em.

COA deal with MCB and State Farm was worse.Cobb County will eventually get their ROI back on the commercial and residential end.

BTW,when was the last time you heard someone recommend Atlantic Station as any type of must see destination for visitors?
I'd have to say never.

Like I said Atlantic Station woulda been ideal for the Braves instead of Turner but
Ted was being "socially conscious" and thought he was getting a deal with ACOG and COACHES meeting
