Newk is doing pretty good despite his two last starts, but yeah trading possibly the best defensive shortstop this generation is always a risky move. If Dansby was hitting better it'd take some sting out of losing Simmons.

I find it hard to monday morning quarterback that particular trade given where we were when we traded him and what we needed in our organization.
Last year was the first full year of play where Simmons put up an OPS of over .700. I know about how defensive prowess, but I don't feel like it really does you any good to have a great defensive shortstop if your pitching staff sucks.
My observation was that Simmons was producing what he was capable of offensively, and that it wasn't enough to warrant paying him 13-15 million per year when the rest of the team was garbage.
Also, I say this with the disclaimer that I know jack shite about defensive WAR, and I certainly don't put a lot of stock into the WAR metric in general, but this year Simmons' dWAR on basball reference is 1.8 while Dansby's is 1.5

Yeah that trade was under different management, it's over and no point in dwelling on it.
I do want to see Anthopolous go and make the bullpen better before the end of the month. He walked into years worth of a rebuild and now he has a chance to make a move for the Braves so we can improve our bullpen and hopefully a playoff run.
Not gonna lie, I'm salty about Carter Stewart not working out. Too many rich guys working at the executive levels for the braves to frick that one up-- of course they may have a plan to make it work better for us in 2019, but how the top brass came to the agreement on a kid with a messed up wrist is confusing (I'm aware physicals are after the draft, but still, insiders and what not).
Eyes are on you AA, this team has done more than anyone predicted so far.

I think our worst trade was Kimbrel... he'd be helping our awful bullpen like crazy if they'd been able to hang on to him.

No, we needed to trade Kimbrel. What we didn't need to do was use him as a means to dump Melvin. We could have gotten one hell of a haul at the trade deadline had we kept him and waited. Look at what the Yankees got for Aroldis. That could have been us.
We should have just kept Melvin and put him in the lineup everyday during the rebuild.
THAT was the worst move by Coppy, followed closely by the Oliver bullshite.

Folty got all 3 up 3 down in the first, well Freddie really got them all out but same team.

Newcomb looks like a rotation mainstay for the next 10 years though so time will tell if that one pays off.
Good first inning for Folty

Braves had 2 on but left them stranded hope that changes.

Not 3 up 3 down in the 2nd, Folty had 2 on but got out of trouble with a 99 mph heater.

Folty just got a basehit (or maybe error) bunt single to drive in Camargo! Then Ender got an rbi single to drive in Swanson 2 nothing.

That was an outstanding bunt by Folty

Followed up with a laser to the gap by Ender

Ozzie sac fly 3 nothing. Freddie got an rbi hit to make it 4 nothing. Markakis' triple made it 5 nothing. What a 2nd inning.

If the Braves keep this up and Folty doesn't get hammered worse than Gaviglio they'll make their losing record against out of division foes better.

Hell of a slide by freddie there

Man I love some Rob Washington.

It's almost like his motto at third base is "frick it"

Great to see this on my bday!

After the 6th run in the 2nd inning, by Flowers, they finally pulled that guy.
