that's a great photo.

I make the following comment based on my observation that Smoltz looks the same as he did when he was pitching for the Braves late in his career:

This photo is a perfect example of how you have this young kids potentially going up against grown as men. Smoltz still looks like he could go out there and lace em up with the likes of Stewart, Soroka, etc.

So Julio's going to allow 1 homer per inning?

He's hurt. The fact that he can't break 87 or command his pitches is alarming

My uneducated guess is that the climate difference/lack of humidity might be affecting his grip with his fingers. Might be why he is throwing a ton a of curves instead of sliders and why he can't generate velocity. If that's the case, then you just hope he can battle and get through five IP only down 2.

Humidity is 81% in San Diego tonight, so there goes that theory.

His location seems to be better.

He hit 90 on a couple of fastballs as well.

I don't think he's hurt and just think that for whatever reason he was struggling with grip. He kept looking at his fingers, which is something that is easily inspectable by the trainers, so if there was a visible problem they would have taken him out.

The Braves picked an outfielder/1B with their 2nd pick:

Julio left after giving up 3 home runs and striking out 2 in 4 innings with 4 runs allowed. Gohara is warming up.

Gohara allowed 6 earned runs in the 5th before they lifted him finally for Moylan.
