Yeah, that game was supposedly an absolute classic too. Something like 5 overtimes.

Braves are signing Brian McCann. no contract details yet, but apparently he has turned down more lucrative offers due to a strong desire to play in Atlanta again.

Recently bought a massive spread up here in Suwanee. Time to start prepping for post-baseball.

it's only for one year and will be a big bargain if he bounces back healthy. if he doesn't...then it's just one year.

Not a risk because of it being a year, but frick that's a lot of change for someone who can't stay healthy.

he had a calf injury in 2017 and similar injury last year along with the dead shoulder/inflammation thing. Other than that he has played full seasons every year. I wouldn't say he can't "stay healthy".

If they don't have some trades cooking, this is a stupid way to spend that cash. He's never healthy.

Hope he proves us wrong, but how is this any different than the Jose Bautista and Adam Duvall additions? It seems like AA is fixated on signing these former sluggers in their twilight years.

And I don't get the front offices obsession with 3rd base. I guess they'll never let Camargo develop into and everyday 3rd baseman, even though he stepped up nicely as the year went on. I'm happy to have Donaldson, but for $23 million... frick we have serious outfield and bullpen issues to address. Our offense and infield is solid for the most part.

I like the McCann addition, welcome back B-Mac.

Comargo can also play outfield.

While these two don't really excite me they do bring leadership into the dugout. B Mac might be great help to all the young pitchers. They help fill a couple of spots till Riley and Contreras are ready to come up.

Could Dansby or Comargo be part of an upcoming trade?

I'm good with these deals. Gave up no prospects and have no long term commitments to two aging players. My gut tells me Donaldson gets healthy and bounces back. McCann will probably not give us much offensively but hopefully can help the younger pitchers.

Still need an outfielder, bullpen help and possibly a veteran starter. Should be interesting to see what they come up with.

McCann and Flowers will platoon so at least the old guy only has to play half the games or so.

lol @ the guy comparing Donaldson to Bautista and ADAM DUVALL (wut)

Donaldson was an MVP-caliber player just a couple of seasons ago. There is obviously some risk given the injuries, but that's why it is a one year deal.

The Braves need to spend that money one way or another and there isn't much impact on the FA market beyond Machado or Harper, and we're probably not rich enough or foolish enough to go huge there.

Acuna/Freeman/Donaldson

I like it.

The consensus guess around Donaldson coming into the offseason was a 3 year deal for around $60 million.

Would you rather have that or 1 year/$23mil?

I'm not saying they're the same caliber (even though Bautista was awesome at one point), but AA keeps going after old guys.

BTW, laugh all you want, but Donaldson will have the highest salary of any Braves player next year, including more than Freddie.
