1st MLS match last night, lost 0-2 to DC United in a miserable cold down pour. Not going to read to much into that match. Atlanta again looked a little lethargic and not quite in sync. Two key starters (G. Martinez and Gressel) were rested and only brought on as subs. Whatever the reasons, they looked bad. DC United also looks like they are going to be good this year.
Atlanta is clearly trying to figure out how to balance the CONCACAF schedule with the MLS schedule and keep fresh legs. After playing CONCACAF last Thursday they had to travel to DC for last night's MLS match and then they are off to Mexico for Wednesday's CONCACAF match before coming back to Atlanta next Sunday for the MLS home opener. Quite a schedule to start the year.

Atlanta just got spanked by Monterey 3-0. Atlanta looked tired but frankly they just looked overmatched. Monterey was extremely physical. Hate that style of play where they essentially fouled Atlanta every time there was a semblance of an Atlanta attack. A couple of could have/should have been yellows in the first half that weren’t called was frustrating. But Monterey saw the ref was going to let it be physical and they took advantage. Then the damn finally broke in the last 10 minutes with two quick goals.
They get a return game at home but Atlanta’s CONCACAF run looks to basically be over. They aren’t beating this team 3-0 or by 4 goals otherwise.
Key now is to not let this turn into an 0-2 start in MLS play. They need to dig deep and find some energy Sunday. The competition will definitely get easier but still...

Why were they playing at KSU's stadium?

MBS had monster jam already scheduled for that day so they had to move up the road to KSU.
