It's a great consolation game and I'm glad some of the seniors will get one more game... they have the rest of their lives not to play football again.

This is also in an area we should always strive for more exposure to recruits, so there's that.

But what has happened to the bowl game system combined with the playoff popularity contest should be alarming to anyone who cares about the long-term health of the sport at the collegiate level.

Many players across CFB have clearly expressed they don't care about these games in their current form... by deciding not to play.

Through ineptitude and mismanagement the NCAA has allowed a sentiment to form in both football and basketball where top players routinely see the collegiate game as merely a vehicle to the professional game. It's not an uncommon stance anymore.

Bowl attendance will continue to decline every year with things as they are. Inevitable.
