Cheshire,

Did you go to Rock-n-Ribs last Saturday?

I didn't unfortunately. We were supposed to go to the JLS Charity Ball that night but something came up and we had to cancel that too.

A bunch of folks from my work went though and said it was a good time.

I didn't really want to go because I liked it better when it was at Bass Pro. I hate the Fairgrounds because I'm not a fan of the north side of town. Having Rock-n-ribs at the fairgrounds translates to more trash.

However, it was a very pleasant day. Partly cloudy. Not too cold, not too hot.

It was a good day to walk around with the family. I could put up with the white trash for a few hours.

I'm with you on the north side of town. I don't get out that way very often. We live out east sunshine just outside of the city limits so we usually hang out on this side of town or south of sunshine. Unless we are going out to eat downtown which seems to be happening less and less.

Weird. We're neighbors.

The East side of Springfield is the most desirable side of town...but apparently you already know that, right neighbor?

I know what you mean. Occasionally we plan a date night to Bruno's or Gilardi's but we pretty much stay on the side of town we live on.

ETA: If you see a good looking chap on a powder blue 1982 Yamaha QT50 (scooter) buzzin' around on the back roads in that area, slow down an say hello.

Talk about a small world.

We live in Oak Knoll which is just off of Forest Heights if you saw that street while you were out looking. We probably will be living pretty close to each other. My wife instructed me when we moved back here that we would be living nowhere else but this side of town. I would say it was definitely a good decision listening to her.

If you're living on this side of town and like Ghilardi's then you'll probably end up at Nicola's frequently like the rest of us. We go there and Avanzare a lot. I go to Gastropub frequently as well since he moved to his new location. Mainly because I like their patio which is almost impossible to find in Springfield.

The places you mentioned are where we frequent too, especially Gastropub.

However, our favorite place with an outdoor patio is Tea Bar & Bites near Missouri State campus. Tea Bar has a limited menu but they get creative on Friday nights. For example, every Friday they do a theme menu built upon geographic culinary specialties from places like Ireland, Spain, Germany, etc.

They don't serve alcohol but they encourage you to bring your own wine or beer which is nice because you actually save on alcohol that way.

Also, on nice evenings they'll sometimes have a harpist or violinist playing on the patio next to their water fountain. Very nice and relaxing place to eat dinner.

Crazy! We're in Copper Mill.

I love that neighborhood. We debated between a house in there and the one we bought. Where we currently live won out because it's about three blocks from my in-laws. My wife liked the fact that we could walk the dogs over when we went to hang out with them.

I have not heard of this place. I'll definitely have to check it out. We've got some friends coming in to town in a couple of weeks so that might be a good time to explore.

When you have children you will appreciate having family so close. Free child care and availability to watch your kids during a date night or time away.

My wife and I have no family here in Springfield. Closest family is in St. Louis. My family is north of St. Louis near Hannibal.

We love SW Missouri and don't plan to leave. We have a condo on Table Rock. We spend a lot of time on the lake boating and having fun. This is a nice area.

However, I sure wish we had family that could help us out with our children every now and then.

Be thankful.

Yeah her parents are great. We get along very well with them which is a plus for when we have kids. My family is spread out all over the country so it's nice to have someone nearby that you can depend on.

If you ever want to get a drink when you get moved in, just let me know.

I will definitely keep an eye out for you.

I told my wife about that restaurant last night and I think we're going to go check it out next weekend with some friends. I appreciate the recommendation.

I hope you like Tea Bar. It's a nice quaint place.

By chance have you and your wife ever eaten at Sunshine Valley Farm just a mile or two past Turner Station? Sunshine Valley is a decent place to get a clean meal and coffee/tea in a scenic country setting. Plus, it's only a few country miles past your house...

Yeah we've actually been there a couple of times for brunch and then we've been for their fixed dinners. It's definitely a hidden gem in the area.
