Norvell and Morris have been mentioned in the aTm and Florida searchs. According to your logic we can write them off.
Take off your Hog colored glasses and tell me who you climb in bed with if you're Chad Morris, holding an offer from Arkansas and aTm.

Would love to see who answers Arkansas and why

Nobody is going to answer Arkansas. It's no secret Morris would like that job.

NO WAY LSU is looking for a coach this off season when they're still trying to undo the damage of the last firing and subsequent issues.
Yea people need to stop throwing LSU in the mix. O is not getting fired. Not this year.

It worries me that it would appear Kiffin is the Gator coach in waiting.
I guess that's sarcasm? I go after Campbell if I'm Florida. Recruiting isn't an issue there.
I go after Venables if I'm Tennessee.
Now you're down to guys you're really just hoping can handle an SEC program and schedule.
How many coaches do you think are available this year with the potential to change the college football landscape at Arkansas?
Posted on 10/30/17 at 5:51 pm to troyt37
Tennessee won't be able to get Venables.

Bert and BP weren't available when we hired them, they both quit good jobs to come here.
Posted on 10/30/17 at 5:57 pm to troyt37
So we should hang on to historically shitty Bert because other schools fired their coaches too? You realize there are going to be "big" openings every single year, right?

Good point. I seem to remember Kiffin throwing up the goal posts before a snap one time, though.

Don't know, you tell me. Personally, though, I want a good recruiter and don't want an air raid offense. Really REALLY liked Bert when we hired him.

What does this even mean?
Do I think there are coaches who will go to a bowl just about every year here?
Yes
Do I think there are coaches who can win 7-8 consistently?
Yes
Do I think there are coaches who will occasionally win 9-10 and compete when they have a good / experienced team?
Yes
How many coaches out there do I think would be an upgrade over Jabba?
Based on the history of the program, a lot of them.

And they both came here and died. Nobody wants to acknowledge this. We want to talk about the big splash hire, but what did our program do for their careers? It was such a prestigious position for Petrino that he was pulling shite that was bound to be his downfall eventually.
Bielema's promising three-peat Rose Bowl career is now hard on the rocks. He may be able to land at Iowa State or maybe UCF if their coaches get poached.
What does that say for our program? What does it say that Holtz went to Notre Dame, and won it all? What does it say that Ford won it all, and came here and crapped out?
Posted on 10/30/17 at 6:10 pm to troyt37
So ND came after Holtz because he sucked, BP was terrible here?

I've never said anything like that. I'd rather have Rhodes running things at this point. I don't understand why you guys want to work yourselves up so, over someone suggesting that having better programs headhunting for a coach isn't a good thing, and then stating the fact that we just aren't as goid a program as some of you want to believe.

Screw Bert's career. He came to us if I remember correctly. Wisconsin is about to be in the playoffs without him!
Kiffin has a bad reputation, a track record of winning, knowledge of the conference, and hopefully something to prove.
All that points to Arkansas. Petrino may flame out at Louisville but he's getting old and probably won't get a better job but I see the Louisville and Arkansas job as comparable. Us taking Kiffin is pretty much the same situation except Petrino has nothing left to prove.
The similarities are staring us in the face.

Wasn't Holtz an ND guy or something?

Venables, Morris, Pruitt, Campbell, Norvell, Frost.
I'd just like to see us hire the right guy at the right time for a change. I don't think it helps our chances that there are some, maybe several, better programs already on the hunt.
Those guys would all be second tier in the coaching search, meaning bigger names will have to turn the job down before we got to them.
I guess people are not aware that Arkansas won the coaching changes season last time.
Bert chose Arkansas over Tennessee and chose Bert over Gus.
Florida's search has little effect on ours, their previous AD made a run at Freeze first, Freeze would never be first on our list. Their current AD went the coordinator route his last football hire.
The fact is their coaching search field is quartered, not only are they going to go with an offensive coach, he must also possess a high scoring explosive offense. With the rise of Miami under Richt, they will also want a coach with east coast ties.
Tennessee is nothing to worry about, they are in a very poor financial situation for starters, their unrealistic expectations make them even less attractive. The difference between them and Michigan is outside of T Martin there are no "Tennessee men" to come and restore them to prominence and Martin isn't good enough for their fan base...
Finances will still dictate aggy's decision, their athletic department was borrowing money that would never be repaid from the academic side less than a decade ago, with the increase in money from the SEC they have increased their spending, definitely a program that lives beyond their means... and there is only one candidate that would have mutual interest from the two programs, Morris. He may eliminate himself before ever progressing to far kind of like Patterson did the last go round.
Bottom line is other's having job openings has no bearing or effect in Arkansas's decision and timing to make a coaching change. Ask any HC and they will tell you Arkansas is a very attractive destination, the facilities, money, fan support, etc are on par with anyone and it isn't impossible to recruit to Arkansas, just more effort has to be put into it than a few other jobs.

So, just identify those coaches that you think can win 7-8 consistently, 9-10 occasionally, and tell us how we hire them before Tennessee, Florida, aTm, Ole Miss, and the rest of the teams in college football.
Or do you really believe that nobody else will be able to compete for a coach that can win consistently at Arkansas and occasionally compete for a championship in the SEC West?

Holtz was Catholic and always wanted to coach there. Hatfield came in after him and had a good run in the 80s, then Clemson came after him, he went because of Broyles meddling.

The Florida board is hot for Frost and Kelly.
