heard OM could likely stick with Luke if they remain competitive
Zero chance this is happening.
It has a pretty good chance of happening actually, at least for another year or until the sanctions are known. It's not like Luke has them flailing around in a John L Smith manner, they're actually playing to the best of their ability right now. They can hang on to him without the interim tag until the NCAA sanctions are known (by all accounts they expect the lightest possible) and evaluate after that.
If the punishment is light like they hope/expect, they'll have a MUCH better chance to land a decent coach. Even with the punishment being known opposed to up in the air like now they'll have a better shot. If the punishments are too severe to get their guy then they have a coach already locked down with a year + of SEC HC experience, which is better than they could attract. If he doesn't do well enough he gets cut when the sanctions are gone and they can land a decent guy, if he does do well then they have their man either way.
It really is a win/win and the smarter thing to do, but fan pressure to clean house of Freeze's people may be too much to overcome.

It's gonna pay dividends for Arkansas that Jeff Long gave Bielema 5 years. Five full years.
Bielema was a proven winner. A proven champion. He was given every opportunity. He just wasn't good enough.
If Ole Miss is wise, they will follow suit there. Hell, they don't really have a choice. Ole Miss as competition for Arkansas in a coaching search right now is patently absurd. Same goes for most other schools save maybe Aggy and Tenner.
Florida? Lol. They just fired a coach who took them to title games his first two years, but ended up being canned for having a dozen players being prosecuted for fraud. Essentially self imposed sanctions.

Yep, I think UF's situation is gonna haunt their coaching search more than they realize. No matter what actually happened behind the scenes it still looks extremely shady to the outside world. Mac mentioned death threats for a little support/leeway/pity from the AD and instead got interrogated, accused, and forced to publicly walk it all back while the AD basically distanced himself.
Even if Mac's claims were unfounded your AD should still have your back in the public eye, and they didn't AT ALL - in fact the opposite - leaking that he was on the outs and about to be fired. No coach will consider the job without considering what went down to the last 2x SEC east championship winning coach that only had a half a bad season, 2.5 years in to the job. And that's not to mention the off-field issues and culture amongst the players that the coach has to line out.
Because of the above mess, I'd actually put UT as the top SEC job available with us and UF as close seconds. I think UT would be our primary competition for coaching services unless TAMU opens, in which case we'd probably have very similar wishlists.
NO WAY LSU is looking for a coach this off season when they're still trying to undo the damage of the last firing and subsequent issues.

Well, I guess I'll let this lay since it seems some of you are getting your knickers in a twist.
I guess we'll get some answers soon enough. I wish reality squared with some of your opinions. At least I hope we haven't been able to just go get who we want, because if that's the case, we must not have wanted much.
Holtz
Hatfield
Crowe
Kines
Ford
Nutt
Petrino
Smith
Bielema

I am really stunned that Butterteeth the Shark Molester was fired. Yes, his players were up to some shenanigans but I haven't read anything that indicates he knew it was happening.
Not to mention you are shite canning a guy coming off back to back East Championships.
Try selling that to a potential new head coach "No guarantees we won't fire you the year after back to back division titles! Don't worry, I'm almost certain you'll be able to get a job coaching high school football afterwards."

Some good coaches on that list.

They won the East twice sure, but let's not pretend those teams were actually that good. The East has been a shite show for a while.

Holtz being the only one who made any impact on the college football landscape in his time at Arkansas.

Depends on your perspective I guess.
Petrino made an impact.
Nutt got Arkansas to Atlanta more than once.
Ford is in the hall of fame.
Bielema is a three time conference champion. Consecutive.
Those are all good coaches, and Hatfield won more than any of them.

It is the getting beat by Bert curse. Every coach that Bert has beat in sec play has been fired except Mullen at this point.

Petrino made an impact.
Petrino lost every game that would have made an impact on college football. He did make quite the impact in the ditch, though.

Nutt got Arkansas to Atlanta more than once.
And lost in an embarrassing fashion, every time.

Ford is in the hall of fame.
Not for what he did here. I guess you could say he is responsible for half of the success Nutt didn't impact college football with, though. So there's that.

In another conference, and he lost all three.
Hatfield was my favorite, but he couldn't win a bowl game.

My point was simply that all those dudes are good coaches.
I don't know why you would include those dudes in a list trying to make the point that Arkansas can't hire good coaches.
Arkansas hires good coaches on the reg. Probably what we are most well known for, to be honest.

Maybe at some point, but not a single one of them did a single thing to alter the college football landscape in their time here.
Those coaches are a combined 293-189-5, for a combined .602 win percentage. All I can say is thank God for Holtz (.723) and Hatfield (.753) because only Nutt and Petrino were even above .500 outside of those 2.

See above.

That, and them not being worth a damn while they are here, I guess.

So your suggestion is to just stop hiring coaches?
I don't follow you.

Venables, Morris, Pruitt, Campbell, Norvell, Frost.
I'd just like to see us hire the right guy at the right time for a change. I don't think it helps our chances that there are some, maybe several, better programs already on the hunt.

Norvell and Morris have been mentioned in the aTm and Florida searchs. According to your logic we can write them off.

Jump in here! Hell they're hatching a conspiracy theory on me, because I dared to say looking for a coach while two better programs are already in the process isn't the best thing!
