They do, the aggys are the worst about making it a "big deal". At one point in the 80s, after paying the NCAA for buying Dickerson that Trans Am he drove to SMU among other things, their special teams were basically all walk-ons from the open tryouts.

Leave it to an aggy to try to make this average thing be a "big deal" at Arkansas.

Technically every walk-on is selected from open tryouts open to the student body, the preferred walk-on thing is kinda new as it guarantees a spot on the team for those who take it.

The irony is that any student who tries out for 2 hours, has officially at that point played more college football than Chad Morris ever played.

I mean, the dude went to A&M. Home of the 12th man. And he never even tried out for that? None of the years he was there?

Looks like the student union donuts were too much of a draw to pull him away. And I guess they didn't have Red Bull back then, so....
