Oregon T&F just hired one of the best distance coaches in the world as their new HC

Oregon track basically had two or three subpar seasons (aka not winning titles) after winning multiple outdoors a few years ago.
So, what happened? They canned their head coach in June and just hired one of the best distance coaches in the world as the program's new HC.
New coach has 5 athletes competing at the World Championships this week.
He is obviously going to follow the John McDonald method of stacking up points in Middle distance races to win national titles... A method Oregon used a few years ago to win back to back to back outdoor titles.
And what does Arkansas do? Well... Nothing it seems, except keep falling down the rankings every year with a coach who should have never been hired to begin with... and probably should have been fired 7 years ago.

This comes after the school decided not to retain former head coach Robert Johnson in June.
"Jerry Schumacher is a world-class track and field leader with a unique ability to build a dynamic team atmosphere to support a first-class experience for the athletes," Mullens said in a press release.
Schumacher is one of the most successful collegiate track and field coaches ever, and he has a strong connection to the University of Oregon. For the past 15 years, Schumacher has served as director and head coach of the Nike Bowerman Track Club -- one of the nation's foremost running clubs made up of both youth runners and a national-level team.
The Bowerman Track Club has a special connection to Oregon, as it's named after legendary Oregon Track Coach and co-founder of Nike Bill Bowerman. In his tenure leading the Bowerman Track Club, Schumacher coached 28 olympians and was named USAT
F Coach of the Year in 2017.
"Track and field at the University of Oregon is unique in so many ways," Schumacher said. "From its incomparable history of success to the unparalleled support of the TrackTown community."
Schumacher started his coaching career as an assistant at North Carolina, but rose to the top of the NCAA Track and Field world as the head coach of Wisconsin's men's distance and cross country programs. In his decade with the Badgers, Schumacher brought home two NCAA team titles, 24 Big Ten championships and was named the 2005 National Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year.
Schumacher projects as a strong hire, becoming the 14th head coach in program history.

Email Hunter Baw.
He's the stick in the mud for men's track.

The only thing more boring than track is field. I say close the track program down and allocate those resources into sports that people wanna watch.

Why we've not addressed our need for a new coach is beyond me (and you). Our legacy has almost been taken away from all of us and it's not getting better, but worse. Hunter, please go look at our city limit signs. Nothing less will do.

I'm convinced that Bucknam either has thorniest contract in coaching history (if fired I get your first born and your dog) or he has video evidence of every member of the BoT molesting a dead walrus. The results do not justify keeping him and he's been here 14 years. He's had time.
If we were showing signs of improvement every year... okay... but we have gotten more and more irrelevant in a sport we used to dominate since he took over.
Maybe the plan is that we've got a clone of John McDonnell and we just have to keep Bucknam for a bit longer until its time to unveil McDonnell 2.0 but otherwise... enough is enough.

Just curious.. but do y’all think if we all emailed Hunter we would actually get our concerns addressed. I don’t think we would.
Do you think anyone in the administration lurks our board at all?

I commented on that thread that he needs to be replaced and every single other comment was praising Hunter on how amazing all of our coaches are. Clearly he’s getting the wrong message right now so I don’t think emailing would hurt.

I think a lot of people from alot of ADs lurk on many of these boards. Sadly, however, I'd bet the Arkansas staff people lurk on H'ville and 247, which are so censored and full of rose-colored glasses, it doenst give thenlm an authentic view of the fanbase's thoughts.
I'm sure if you started a "fire Bucknam" thread on either of those sites, the topics would be whacked in minutes.

247 usually has a thread focused on firing Bucknam each time another team that’s not us wins a championship. It’s usually not outright titled Fire Bucknam but it’s always heavy in the why hasn’t this guy been fired yet type posts.

Dont the rules on 247's board explicitly state that you can't call start a thread calling for a coach's firing?
I guess they let the Bucknam stuff slide because the mods agree as well.

Someone does but not sure who. I say that as a guess because of how the NIL program is named the Flagship. Whomever is lurking, please go talk to Hunter for us all.

That might be it. There’s a guy on there who is really in to T&F that always starts threads about the championships. Those are what usually devolve in to fire Bucknam threads.
Of course there’s always some homers in there arguing we should just be happy we win those conference titles and to not rock the boat. Once he stops winning those, he’ll be toast. At least, I hope.

There are definitely people on The Hill who know about tRant. But I think they wisely take our opinions with more than a grain of salt usually. In this case though, hard to argue with Jack and others’ opinions…
