You could tell cronin didmt have his best stuff game 2. He was 4 or 5 mph slower than game 1 and more importantly he was obviously missing up over another again. You never wanna miss up in the zone. Especially without that extra velo. After the leadoff walk he shoildve had someone in the pen and shoildve been pulled after the game tying hit. The next batter cronin elevates a low 90s fastball again and it gets blasted. I feel like cronin should not have been in that situation

Cronin gave his team a chance to win. He ran out of gas after the botched pop up physically and mentally.

I agree. I think DVH should have brought someone else in after that. Cronin was starting to miss a lot. That AB with the foul was a long AB and made Cronin throw a lot of pitches. DVH should have taken him out after that. You could tell Matt was tired, physically and mentally, and was just throwing junk. I was hoping DVH would have been brought in Bonnin or someone else to face Larnach.

Exactly. Once the save oppurtunity was lost and the run had scored bring a fresh arm in to get that last out. Especially against a guy of larnachs caliber. Hey ball he hit out was a 91 mph fb belt high. Missed about 2 feet up where Koch had setup and he'd been missing up the entire inning. Idk if anyone else caught that but I did.even when he was getting outs he was missing.

I think the mistake was bringing Cronin in to pitch during the 8th.
Either continue to roll with Loseke, or bring one of the freshmen in for a couple of outs.

Cronin is a (at least this year) 120% effort pitcher. Much like Chapman in the bigs, you're rolling the dice if you extend a guy like that in any form or fashion. Ramage and Bonnin both IMO had better control of their breaking stuff...

Then bring in Cronin in the 9th (and don't start with the breaking ball to get behind in the count).

Yep.. we had some guys who could've got us 1 or 2 outs tgat I think we should've went to especially since they had just seem cronin the day before and had just seem loseke who's a predominantly fastball pitcher. I think it would've been a good idea if that last inning we rolled the dice with a guy who threw more junk

Cronin had no business being the closer in game 1 other than our weak arse BP. Rutledge didn’t pan out, McKinney is a medical disaster and Campbell is a head case.

DVH had no choice.

This is 100% hindsight BS.

Cronin was fine. The f-ing foul ball and game tying hit broke him.

We were done no matter who the pitcher was after they tied the game. Get real.

well no. Not for me. I played baseball my entire life I start my first year coaching high school baseball this upcoming year. And i noticed with the 2nd barter the one who bunted that he was missing up Bad. I told my dad who was watching it with me " cronin is off, he keeps elevating his fastball thats a pitch we could get hurt with."

You do realize when Cronin throws a fastball 95% of the time it’s elevated, right?

His spin rate and ride is what makes him difficult to hit. Sure he’s not perfect but if he tried throwing that fastball down it would get hit much more.

If Reindl was Auburn Reindl instead of Memphis Reindl then we would have been fine.

4.1 from Murphy
3.2 from Reindl
or
2 from Reindl
and Loseke/Cronin to finish

If Reindl does his job then Cronin comes in during the 9th to get one or two out max.

yes, when he's throwing 95 and trying to get a k he does. But do you think he was intentionally missing location? Im telling you Koch was setup low most of that inning and cronin kept missing location.

We didn't need Cronin throwing gas to get us out of the 8th inning in the 2nd game. Much like Abel in game 3 I would have liked to have seen one of the freshmen come in throwing off-speed to get some slow-rolling contact outs.
Then bring Cronin in for the 9th... AND DON'T START THE 9TH OFF WITH A SLIDER.
