I have read that 4-5 times, and finally I think I get it. When he signed the new contract, his agent said "Pay it or we walk"
right? That is what the agents are paid to do, I don't blame anyone but the AD for that decision. The agent did his job and got the security for his client.
Now... Here we are, JL could have lowered the choices for CBB or let him walk. He supposedly has that "list" of possible coaches at all times...

That's where Long has to understand the coaching landscape and say to himself "who exactly is coming after a coach with a 10-15 record, coming off a 6-6 season, who's been getting his shite pushed in in the SEC for the last two years."

Long has mentioned publicly before that he has a list of a potential coaching candidates if needed in a pinch.

If there is an AD in America that doesn't have a list, then they are worse than Jeffrey

Agreed, and it's why I laugh when members of the sports media start serving up the "well if you fire [insert coach], who are you going to get?" nonsense. Most AD's around the country, at least those worth half a shite, always have a list of potential coaching replacements, and they don't just start the process the minute the current coach is fired.
The only AD who did that recently was Joe Alleva at LSU, and it showed in how he conducted their coaching search last year.

THIS ^^^ will be the biggest issue a new coach has to face in righting this ship, other than the O-line (and D-line to a lesser extent).
It's crazy how much worse a culture of losing can make a team and players individually, just see some of these long-term losing teams in the NFL and all their early draft picks somehow forgetting how to play football. It's taking the Lions about 10 years to slowly dig out of that losing culture that was their franchise for so long and they're STILL not all the way past it. Idk if the Browns will ever be able to be good, even if the owners and coaches are changing.
Luckily that hasn't set in here completely and seems to be less existent in the college football universe, but the bit that's crept in over the years will have to be removed before we can really reach full potential.
The lines are an equally daunting issue, but that can be repaired by recruiting line-heavy classes at first and bringing in some top-tier coaches, i.e. fixes that are palpable and quantifiable.
