Who ya got? I'll compile all the info I can find on our favorite nominees. This is a glaring weakness that has been exposed over and over again. We're vanilla and predictable, even when we're unpredictable it's predictably bad.

I believe some of our instant front runners might be Brent Vigen, the OC at Wyoming, a bunch of our posters love his work with Bohl at North Dakota St. Chesh loves Paul Chryst. Tim Beck at Nebraska has gotten some love from us in the past.

I could see some journeymen names like Dana Bible, Dave Christensen, Calvin Magee, Doug Nussmeier, Darrell Dickey, Jim Bollman getting some bites.

Maybe Bert would go after a younger guy that can recruit, seeing that Chaney is pretty well worthless in recruiting.

Lincoln Riley at ECU, James Coley at Miami, Steve Spurrier Jr. at S. Carolina, our own Barry Lunney Jr could be some younger guys that get a look.

Maybe George McDonald, who has said he'd never have left Arkansas if he knew he'd only get a year and half to call plays at Syracuse, gets to mend that bridge.

Or maybe we just stick with Kool Aid and shite ourselves for the next couple years with minimal QB development. It's pretty obvious if Brandon Allen went to Chris Weinke's camps at IMG then his Dad, Bert, and himself believe he's not getting enough instruction here in Fayetteville. Chaney's not the answer.

Would take in a heartbeat.

We could do worse than an OC who won natty at Alabama.

Is Pitt looking for a new HC yet?

I've been rooting for Pitt to lose every game for a while this season so we can get Chryst.

Even though I like the smash mouth football style we have been trying to use at this point I'll cheerfully switch to a spread, spread option, pro style, west coast, triple option, or even a single wing system.

Ideally with the defense we are trying to build we would nab an OC who specializes in running an efficient and time consuming offense because it will probably take another year or two to recruit depth at every position so it makes sense for us to shorten the game as much as possible.

Not firing Chaney is the most Arkansas thing possible.

I would rattle of some names, but none would be the "flashy" hire or run a "flashy" offense and it would be downed like our DC hire, because if there isn't flash, or they aren't the hot name, it can't ever turn out good.

One thing that needs to be considered is that the OC not only puts together efficient offense, but also has a track record as a QB coach, a record that involves more than sort of kinda coached Drew Brees.

Alex Woods is the OC at Buffalo now...

I question how much he helps coach the QBs in practice and why he's up in the booth with Chaney during games.

He does have experience as an OC in college and as a QB coach in college.

I thought of including him in the OP. He's the interim HC at the moment. I think he might get that job actually.

Good for him if so.

He didn't have a chance to do any good while here with two ego maniacs who thought they are also QB gurus on the staff at the same time.

He was wise enough to get out his first chance, so you have to give him credit for that.

Don't blame him a bit. He drove a little car IIRC, how could he haul ladders in that?

That was his replacement, who somehow went on to the Dolphins and Jets, not that I would want him back as both had QB play that was absolute garbage under him.

That was my joke. Lee and his ladders.

David Lee and his wife are terrific people though. They encouraged me a lot back in the day. That's the crappy part of how nuts college sports have gotten. Coaches have to win, they make big bucks, there's stupid money at stake for the schools if they aren't putting winners on the field/floor.

This keeps schools from developing true identities and when you do get some super people at your school, they'll be forced to move on in a number of years.

It's a business of mercenaries.
