@NLRfootball Definitely a loss to the state as Horton is a favorite son. Sad to see him go but excited at the dawn of a brand new Hog era!

I'm intrigued to see how Gussy-Poo's strategy of "poaching" away rival's recruiting coordinators will work out for him.
We all know superior talent is the main thing that has made Gus successful. He's put together a pretty decent staff, however it appears recruiting is his focus as some of those guys aren't exactly clamored about for their coaching or game planning abilities.
I'd not be surprised to see #5 recruiting classes finishing #5 in the SEC West.

Let's be honest here...I don't know nearly as much about the workings/personalities of the former staff as some of y'all. Is losing Horton that big a deal? I mean, we had some top talent leaving the state anyway, so it's not exactly like he was locking it down.
Or am I overestimating his past involvement in our recruiting process?

Bielema didnt want him obviously. We have EVERY position on the staff filled except the TE coach. We hired the Washington coach who TOOK Hortons job.
There are rumors of our TE coach hiring with ZERO mention of Horton.
So he wasn't being retained obviously. Can't blame him for going elsewhere.

According to Auburn posters he was the best recruiter on the staff.
In reality, Nutt hired him as a PR move to soften the blow during the Malzahn/Danny Brain bleed fiasco of 07, the Petrino was wise to keep him around for PR work around the state as I'm sure deep down Petrino knows what an insufferable a-hole he truly is.
There was a reason Horton was the lowest paid assistant on our staff...
CBB offered him a non-coaching job that amounted to doing PR work around the state, he is great at this, coaching and recruiting, not so much.

And Tenpenny, he wouldn't come to Arkansas, but will go to Auburn because Tim in now there.
for all the talk over there of how great a program we doesn't this point to us being the problem in luring in top talent?

When is the TE coach going to be announced?

I'm trying to find that out. Last week people I talk to seemed certain it was going to be Bostad. For whatever reason that didn't work out. Horton was the backup plan but I guess he got butthurt over not being the top choice and took his talents to the plains of West Georgia.
Coach B may be scrambling a little bit but I still feel confident that he will land a quality coach.

I don't believe this, but heard a rumor last night that he may hire Rick Jones.

Maybe. Jones has college coaching experience.

I just read his bio and I didn't realize that. Wouldn't be a great hire but I kind of like the idea of him rather than keeping horton. He's less experienced but we know what horton brings as a coach and I wasn't overly impressed wouldn't be bad to find out what Jones would bring to the table as a coach.

107-19 in 9 years with 6 State Titles at one school is ridiculous.

Up in Wisconsin, Barry Alvarez is a doofus. Now he's over paying his assistants.
$550K for some guy from San Diego St.
