Grew up watching Ned. I have noticed him losing a step or two lately when he is doing severe weather broadcast. Sad to see him go.

KATV’s Ned Perme, Arkansas’ most iconic meteorologist, has decided "it’s time." Perme announced that he will wrap-up his 40-year broadcast career this year, retiring after an incredible 34 years as KATV’s Chief Meteorologist. "My career has been a dream come true,” commented Perme. “For more than three decades, Arkansans have invited me into their homes each evening and have trusted me as their weatherman. It has truly been a privilege and I cherish my relationship with the viewers. But all good things must come to an end, and I’ve decided that it’s time for me to sign-off for the last time." Ned began his television career in 1977 in Mobile, Alabama, and soon found his way to Arkansas in 1984, joining the KATV Weather team as chief meteorologist. Among his many achievements, Perme is a fourteen-time recipient of the Best Weathercast Award given by the Associated Press. "Ned is one-of-a-kind and is a major reason why Channel 7’s 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts have remained No. 1 for so many years," said KATV General Manager Mark Rose. "He’s been part of the fabric of our KATV family for decades, and we wish him nothing but the very best as he begins his next chapter." In addition to his nightly weather forecasts, Ned is known for his spirited Friday Night Tailgate segments during high school football season. An accomplished musician, Perme wrote the song "Christmastime in Arkansas," sung by his close friend, the late Terry Rose. The song was nominated for an Emmy award and has since become a Christmas Eve tradition for thousands of Arkansas families. "Ned’s legacy spans generations”, said KATV News Director Nick Genty. "He completes his career as the state’s most experienced television meteorologist and one of Arkansas’ most beloved TV personalities. While we are sad to see him go, we are excited that he’ll be able to spend more time playing music and spending time with his grandchildren. Job well done, Ned!"

The band I was in for so long played KATV's Christmas Party 2 or 3 years... Ned sat in on drums for a couple of songs and did a passable job. I had thought he only played piano.

I'm gonna miss that tan.

Here's to Steve Barnes, BJ Sams, Beth Ward and Ann Janson too.

True story - hubby's friend was a piano tuner and Ned hired him to tune his grand. Friend gets there at the appointed time and rings the bell. No answer. So friend walks around to the backyard to see if someone's back there, and there's Ned, on a lounger, like this:

This was many years ago, so hopefully Ned switched to sunless tanner at some point. Otherwise, I hope he has a good dermatologist.

When he dies, he'll be re-purposed into a burlap sack or a stack of NFL footballs.
